Haven’t seen any of the match yet but as much as I didn’t like Scholes I did appreciate what a fantastic player he was. 

If Gilmour can become as good a player what a team we will have in a few years.

Always makes me wonder why it is Ross/Michy don't show that effort to get on the ball against better opposition. I find that immensely frustrating.

Can't disagree that it was Grimsby not Citeh, but they were game in the first 45 and their goal-keeper had a great night which seems odd to say when we still scored 7! As the saying goes "you can only beat what's in front of you"

I watched the whole game and don't think a single player played poorly. The stand outs for me were James, Barkley and Gilmour.

Which brings me to my next point. How entertaining are we? It has been years since I have enjoyed watching Chelsea this much. Gone are the dozen mostly needless passes to move the ball 5 yards forward from last season. Gone is the fear factor about committing players in numbers ahead of the ball. Yes, we need to be more defensively solid at times, and other Garth Crooks type blindingly obvious observations. But this is very much a work in progress and we are doing it playing entertaining football, and doing it with youth.

Seriously, I couldn't be happier! I am even thinking about having a cheeky £50 on us to win the EPL next season.

On another note, that Maatsen looked class at LB. I know i don't like Alonso much but he looks just as good as Alonso in attack but actually has the pace to recover and defend. At what point is it TOO much youth? Do we play Alonso just because he's experienced?

Don't disagree with any of that. Thought everyone played well. Gilmour was superb, great control and movement off the ball. If he beefs up and doesn't fall into the Josh traps he'll be a fixture for years.

We're scoring goals for sure. I think we need a little polish at the defensive end but Rudiger and Kante will help with that.

delighted with the game tonight, really enjoyed watching the young guns, not sure there was any of them at all that looked out of place. I appreciate it was only Grimsby but it was still really enjoyable to watch. Hoping for a decent home draw in the next round to see more of these lads!

 

I was a tad upset Barkley didn't take it, to help him get over the last miss. He's obviously been demoted!!!!!!!

Same sort of team as today please. They earned the right to play the game imo.

City have been getting some piss easy cup games in the last few seasons, I'm not surprised they keep winning the cups.

Also, I'm getting a bit bored of us vs United, we seem to get them every year in at least one of the cups.
