Spuds v Chelsea (PL) Sun 22nd Dec 16:30 GMT

Featured Replies

I’ve been away for a few weeks on hols  and decided to take a bit of a web break and fortunately was not on TSE during the run of defeats.

was just back in time to see this match, and like most  feared the worst but what a turnaround and performance by Frank and the boys.

Got the strangest feeling of pride for the team. I know we may not have as successful season as last year but watching us now is so much more enjoyable.

Mourinho is a Bitter c**t. He will never be the best manager that ever lived.

Just the best manager we've ever had. At least so far

Definitely, but I would never have him back, his time has came and gone.

I understand what you're saying, long arc of history etc. My concern is always that losing the big games while progressing your project is what Arsenal did for a decade. Turned out they developed their players who then went somewhere they could win things.

There has previously been a naivety to our play in big matches. I didn't see that today. That for me is progress and I hope to see it repeated next week.

I don't really like the comparison with Arsenal right now if I'm honest, the reason they turned into Arsenal (so to speak) is because they didn't evolve the project, it was the same ambitions of good football and mere top 4 when Cesc, RVP, Nasri were in their primes as it was when they were 20.

Of course if we're here in two years with the same targets as this year then questions have to be asked but right now I think we're at a stage where performance needs to be assessed highly, for where we're at I look at performance just as much as result, if not more so.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

For me the focus on the "performance" brings up all sorts of bad connontations around right and wrong way to play and football hipster evangelism. The right performance is the one that wins. Simple in my mind.

But then again I had no issues with what other labelled sufferball or parking the bus. What I liked yesterday was that Frank outsmarted Jose and tried something different. We weren't naive trying to press high and play the right way. We were resolute and realistic and we won. Thatbis progress in a big match in my book and I'm excited to see us mature and do more of that.

Sometimes it has to be done to get to where you want to go. Klopp gave up results for his first two years to get to where he needed to be infact even Fergie wrote three years off so he could rebuild with Rooney, Ronaldo, Vidic, Evra and the end result was his greatest ever team. He realised Chelsea and Arsenal were going to be too good for him in the short run so turned the negative into the positive and built a team to eventually conquer the pair of us.

We're in a similar situation now, Liverpool and City are too far ahead right now, so we've really got nothing to lose by turning to a 'process'.

Managed to catch the replay. Wow, what happened to this team a couple of games ago that made them play crap football?

Willian was good. Where has this Willian been??

How did you end up in the police escort? Me and my old man just walked out the station and kept going straight past them all!

The whole forcing us all towards Northumberland Park, past loads of Spurs pubs and in to a large group of their supporters thing afterwards was a joke too. We ended up following a group of them to Tottenham Hale in the end without any problems.

To be honest, was busy chatting as we walked out station was not really noticing what was going on, then when realised to late, police wouldn't let us through, I was dressed in curly blue clown wig, replica shirt, face painted blue and blue and white top hat and a rattle, so I couldn't really slip under the radar!!

A change in tactics, a kick up the ass, the game being against Tottenham and Mourinho, the players wanted it more. This is the kind of attitude we need every game though, not just the big ones.

Sons red upheld, and rightly bloody do. Ridiculous that they even tried to get it over turned.

It made sense to try, since they had absolutely nothing to lose, and there’s always a chance the FA will f**k up and reverse the red card.

gotta admit before the match I was worried, but I should have looked at Chelsea's history - a match at 3 point Lane always puts Chelsea in a better frame of mind

Should have been extended for frivolous appeal.

To be fair the week rest definitely helped. Lamps plays a high pressing and aggressive game but wasnt rotating the players hence the physical and mental fatigue. Hopefully he learns his lesson and rotates this Christmas period or it will be a case of De ja vu

sounds like SFL is like Sarri & needs to find a way to rotate his player more to allow some rehabilitation

Most definitely . It doesnt help that the squad is thin and some players are out of form ( Emerson,Barkley,Hudon odoi, pedro, christensen and Giroud) Hopefully we spend wisely in January on Players who can make an impact on the starting 11 and not players to add to our bench

By Jose and Jenas logic, Rudiger probably should be standing still had he broke 3 ribs at the end of that studs up karate kick. The intent was there, it's lucky Rudiger wasn't hurt or there'd be  riot on the field. How many footballers would stand still and just take it? You don't expect Captain Kane to do it.
