Lampard doesn't usually speak about other clubs' players but today he spoke about Cavani very highly in his pre-match presser for the Arsenal game. I think we can gleam from his comments he's interested. Atletico Madrid have already approached PSG.

In 3 weeks he's 33, the same age as Olivier Giroud, for what that's worth.

Here's the press conference. Talks about Cavani on 3 minutes, and talks about short-term signings on 6mins 30secs. He also emphasises the point that we're not scoring enough. Looks like he definitely wants this to happen...................

My take on this is that he is putting pressure on the board to sign his targets, by using the press conference as a way to confirm he wants another striker.

He's probably looking at one last big pay cheque and a decent length of contract. I don't see us giving him either of those.

He's a boss striker.

No idea what his shelf life would be though, he presses a lot and seemed injury prone last calendar year for PSG.

Don't think we could get a better striker in January, but not a deal for the future, that's for sure...

I don't normally like bringing players in who are over 30 and never before played in our league. That said Cavani is quality, his movement in the box is first class and would lap up the service provided by Reece. Question is just how match fit he is now? It usually takes players coming in from less physical leagues a minimum of 6 months to acclimatize. The plus side is that he wouldn't impair Tammy's progress and he could be a good mentor for him to learn from.

I think the reason he spoke about him is Cavani has handed in a transfer request so it can’t been seen as trying to turn another teams players head

Fitness is his concern, ive no doubt he could still produce at 33 in England, but he has been injured alot in the last 2 season, so it would be a huge gamble on big wages.

Last time we didn't miss buying an older player we got Eto'o. We've had Sheva, Torres, Falcao, Huguain to name some.

Also Vialli, Zola and Hughes...

Really hope we're not going down that road again.

I'll second that.

Signing ageing, past their best strikers goes against everything. I guess if it was to replace both Giroud and Batshuayi and it was just short-term to the end of the season, until we can sign Werner, I might reluctantly come around. But let's face it, he does have really sh*t hair and it would be hard to warm to him on that basis!!

The other thing is without EPL experience he has the culture shock of the UK as well as the language and playing with new team mates, I would prefer a move for even Zaha, though not perfect yet I notice it was his bullet cross that was turned into the City net at the Etihad.

I can't think of many strikers doing well when they are signed in January. You usually don't see the best of them until the season after.

The best striker we signed in modern times in January was Anelka, and he only managed to score two goals that season for us.

Even Suarez for Liverpool only scored 4 goals when he signed in January.

Strikers in January don't bring you goals, they need time to settle. I don't think that would change with Cavani.

Yup, and it’d make a lot more sense if we signed a premier league striker, even if not as good as Cavani. At least we’ll know what to expect.

Big fan of either Ings or Jimenez in the long run. Short term might be wiser to stick with Batshuayi till the summer and get a quality winger who can double up as a 10, as a replacement for Pedro in the interim.

Well, Matt Law reported that we’re in the race for Cavani now. PSG want 10m euros.

PSG owner said they haven’t heard from A.Madrid since rejecting their offer, so I’d say that’s them out of the picture. If we were actually after him, I’d say we got him.

I’m convinced he’s ours. 10m euros, handed in transfer request, Lampard speaking about him, also saying he wants experience in the team... Get ready to see Cavani in blue.

Maybe we could do a swap deal with Giroud lol
