This is what I was afraid of when I heard Boehly got rid of Marina , buck and especially Petr Cech. Boehly has no knowledge of football let alone premiership football and is just taking advice from Tuchel. I bet you if we had Cech or Marina they wouldn't sanction this deal without a buy back. The reason being that just because Tuchel doesn't rate him doesn't mean another future coach of Chelsea won't rate him. The kid as so much potential and it makes no sense that we sell him for 9 million while we just bought some 19 year old Italian kid for 15 million with ad ons.

We need a technical director FAAAAAAST

£9 million is a bit lower than I was hoping. But we have no leverage when he's got 12 months left on his contract, wants to leave and is coming off a poor season.

Probably not much Tuchel or Boehly could do here. At this point he's not good enough for our team so what could they do at that point? Probably very little.

Hopefully there is a buy-back or even a first refusal in the deal though.

If he doesn’t feel Gilmour fits that it’s not going to matter how he trains.

Pure guess work that is mate, which is what i'm trying to say, we don't know, so we make stuff up and fill in the gaps. I think it's more than likely that Gilmore has not developed enough, but like you, it's guess work.

Oh come on ... you think someone spends £2.5 billion on an asset and has no advisors other than one bloke that was already an employee of the asset ?

Boehly seems hell-bent on correcting the huge raft of mistakes of the previous regime in one window ... very impressive if you ask me, and I am even more impressed if this is all down to the Todd and Tommy show with no other help !

The other wee lad we sold to Brighton can hardly get in their team ... you need a bit of physicality in the modern PL.

I agree. Given our current midfield issues this one is a headscratcher. Then again if Tuchel was going to use him you would have thought Tuesday's game was the perfect opportunity.

Excact attributes we need is just plain wrong though.

We need some steel in midfield and he's not that. If not steel we are desperate for real creativity and he's not that either.

I actually think Gilmour is really talented and it's a shame we are losing him. But he's rightfully some way down the pecking order here and he's asked if he can leave the club and we've granted it. Not a ton we can do about that.

Definitely. His approach to the transfer market has been all over the place.  Boehly is just getting a grasp of soccer. I think Boehly is married to the Tuchel project and will give him time like liverpool did withKlopp . My worry is that if things go south we are stuck with the players that fit Tuchels system while not fitting a more pro active coach. We got rid off Salah and KDB because we wanted to give Mourinho the key to the castle .

If i recall Salah was scrunny and got bullied when he was in chelsea but now he does the bullying. Billy is too young to be giving up on him but lets wait and see if there is a buy back clause

Not sure what your seeing with Gilmore to think he could end up as good as those two players? You might be right, but chances are he'll be another that doesn't quite make the top level, most don't.

His technical ability. Most players dont have that. I dont doubt that he needs to improve the physical aspect but it is easier to improve physicality than to improve technicality.

Or alternatively, we signed him from Rangers for £500K and are selling him for £9 million = a decent profit.

Yeah but he has enough quality to be worth more. Unfortunately he only had a couple good games for Chelsea and the loan was a disaster, he's consistently good for Scotland but I guess that didn't count for much.

It’s really funny. Gilmour hasn’t kicked a ball for us for around 18 months and yet people are acting like he’s going to be the messiah and solve our midfield problems all on his own.

Are they, which people?

Billy's had the benefit of the Cobham gym for 4 years and he's just about got himself up to 9 and a half stone ! He's also maxed out at 5'7" tall.

He makes Kante and Jorginho look like Hercules LOL

What are they going to do to improve him further ? Rack him and pump him full of HGH and steroids ?

He's a talented kid that's for sure, but top level is what we need, top top level.

Be a shame as he looked great for that period he got a run in the first team and even Roy Keane was raving about him.

Not totally surprised though. When I used to watch him in the youth team, always thought he was a great little player but could well struggle at the top level just because of his size. I detest the obsession in the modern game with "physical presence" and I don't believe a player has to be a strapping 6 footer to make it, but Gilmour is particularly slight build and I think will struggle to consistently boss the midfield. Brighton is a great fit for him though and will be interesting to see how he develops under Potter. Shame he didn't go on loan there last season.

People in this thread who are acting like letting him go is some kind of huge mistake and that he will fix all our midfield problems. I’m sure you can read and find them for yourself.

If our midfield was full of injury free physical players we could gamble with Gilmore Nibs, but can you imagine a midfield of Jorginho Gilmore and Mount bouncing off Haaland ?

He looked a great prospect under sfl particularly that Everton game, so to day he's not good enough for this level is not really being fair, TT has never fancied him, shipped him off to a shyte loan with Farkur at Norwich who didnt play him, wasted a season when he could of gone to a EFL club and got decent minutes, TT than binned him from the US tour keeping the likes of Barkley on tour instead. Even now when Kante is hamstrung & Kova crocked and not fit for 90, TT has binned him. I wish him all the best and I know Potter will coach him into an EPL footballer. Bottom line its accounting, the 9 mill balances the Auba/ Alonso transfer almost.
