Loan him to one of the frontrunners in a weaker league that would start him (rather than the worst team in a strong league like Norwich), maybe like Ajax, Porto Fenebahce or Marseille and watch him flourish. Right from when he was being linked and I watched video of Billy playing development football for Rangers I have been a non-believer but I like your idea here. It sounds like a good plan. I hope something like this can be put in place for Billy.
July 18, 20224 yr Have left the rest of the team and joined up with the development squad with Vale now. Think a sale will be likely in Gilmours case.

Strange because when he was given the minutes he did well for us overall, specially when he was more forward in the midfield cause he can run with the ball pretty well, I always thought that Jorginho and Kovacic would be some kind of mentors for him and that he would naturally grow into the squad. Tuchel had a short midfielder in Verratti and Gilmour is on point when we have possession... Edited July 18, 20224 yr by Gol15
July 18, 20224 yr I don't know what is going on, but if media reports are to be believed, then I think it is pretty shameful handling by Tuchel and the coaching team. Sending players like Billy away from the first team to train with the kids seems a bad move, for the morale of the player and the message it sends to potential suitors. For what it's worth, I do not think Billy is ready for first team at Chelsea. But he is no further away than the likes of RLC, Barkley or Bats. Poorly handled if true.

This feel like Mou all over again. What is the point of having the like of michy n barkley over gilmour?

It's been reported he wants a permanent move to somewhere. Which I understand as he wouldn't have had a great experience at Norwich last season. But I bet that's why he's with the development squad for now. Vale is not signing a new contract and his current one is running out so that's probably why he's in a similar situation now. No sympathy for his predicament if he's not interested in renewing.
July 18, 20224 yr If Billy doesn't want to renew then sell him with a buyback. He needs playing minutes

Including Raheem and Koulibaly, we are up to 35 players in pre-season, so at least 10 are going to have to be cut from that before we start the season proper, and more than 10 if we sign any more new players. TT has to start somewhere ... I simply don't see where Billy gets any game time in midfield ahead of Jorginho, Kovacic, Kante, Gallagher, Barkley and RLC. TT might even be thinking of Mount for midfield this year as well ? Gilmour was dreadful at Norwich, and obviously hasn't made a case for himself in pre-season either. We should see if we can sell him to Rangers or Everton for a reasonable fee, and personally I don't think a buy back is worthwhile. I think it would be a fair bet that Barkley and Batshuayi won't be far behind him btw.

I'd hazard a guess that we're just seeing what the people who should be in charge want to actually do, It alludes to our club being run by the execs on all of this and now Todd and co want to sort out the 'roster' We have been playing the loan market top bins level so its probably all restructuring and getting rid of I suspect loads of what they see as monetary waste, TT has also been at the club long enough to know most of our loanees and squad and it also feels like they want to make a push to the title, However you'd expect a few more players in if thats the case.( shifting on slowly progressing academy players and bringing in decent money will allow them some leg room) Could be wrong ofc but I personally expected a lot of change around all this kind of stuff, The main concern was bringing in players to the first team as thats really what keeps us going, Our academy would get grim if we end up a mid table side!

July 18, 20224 yr The loan move last season was incredibly damaging to his development. It just shows why you can't just throw a young player into any team, it's got to be the right team and Norwich were so far away from being the right team. If anything, he seems to be a worse player now than he was when he first got into the team.

Norwich of the last time they were in the prem under Farke would have been a decent move and they had a good record with younger players before that (Skipp, Aarons, Cantwell, Godfrey, Lewis) unfortunately for some reason he shat himself and went the sh*thouse route this time round. But even with that factored in it can only excuse a player so much. Gallagher was sent to West Brom due to the attacking/possesion football Bilic likes to play and within months was playing under Big Sam, yet despite that still performed.
July 18, 20224 yr I’m sure that the reality is somewhere in the middle, but Gilmour was the MOTM in three consecutive games for Norwich and Scotland (against England) earlier in the season. And a few times that he played for us he did really well. I don’t know what has gone wrong, but certainly I’d keep him ahead of Barkley or even RLC. We’ve got a large team, fine, but there are names that I’d send back to the UK before the academy youngsters, as these friendlies should be all about trying new things, including giving opportunities to the young players. How many minutes did Gilmour (or Broja) get in the friendly? I mean, Kenedy, Emerson, Batshuayi, Barkley all got minutes, and for the life of me I hope that they do not stay in the first team this coming season. I’d rather see academy products than these players. It is also true that we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, and it is possible that they are asking to be moved on. In that case, we can’t really do much except in the case of Broja who has a contract of 4 more years.
July 20, 20223 yr Sad but looks like BG is going to get moved on.. his debut was huge but i see TT isnt a fan; never been i think from day one.

The new squad numbers have been released and billy doesn't have a number. I just hope it is a loan and not a sale
August 4, 20223 yr Another McEachran. His time at Chelsea is done and he could benefit from a sale with a decent buy-back provision.
August 5, 20223 yr I'm not his biggest fan tbh I don't think he's big enough to be a top player in his position, but I would rather we loaned him to a mid table team this season if we can to see how he can cope. The Loan to Norwich last season was pointless really as they'd resigned themselves to relegation before the season had started
August 5, 20223 yr Billy looked really accomplished a couple of times for us, but has clearly stagnated from his loan and not really been given a look in under TT. A shame, but just can't see a way back for him here. Get him back up to Rangers where he is loved and where he can boss the league.
August 5, 20223 yr As things stands in middlefield we have Kanté, Kovacic, Jorginho, Gallagher, Barkley (probably going), RLC, Carney.. That's too much, seems logical that Gilmour hasn't place for the moment. Let's loan him to Scottish league or a championship side this and let's see.

In practice Kante and Kovacic get injured at some point during the season so it’s not really an amazing depth in the midfield at all, specially since there is no backup for Jorginho.
August 31, 20223 yr Supposedly in talks with Brighton regarding a permanent transfer while our midfield is decimated and can’t string 3 passes together. Mind boggling.

It’s a really strange one. I know fans bag on about how he failed on loan on Norwich, but it was more a case of the managers(s) not knowing what to do with him. There were games where he was played as a 10, I can remember him popping up as a RM also. Even if he failed on loan, there are many examples of top players who have struggled on loans early on in their career. Kane is a prime example.
August 31, 20223 yr Hope there is a buy back clause , I think he'll be awesome at Brighton . Potter will know how to handle him.
September 1, 20223 yr To be fair - prime Messi would have looked sh*te in that Norwich team. Very harsh on the lad - he looked fantastic when he was getting a crack of the whip under Frank. Our midfield is aging massively, we can’t control the ball and we’re letting the kid go that was the best midfielder on show against a very good england team? Makes no sense. I don’t know why he’s not been given any chance whatsoever to show what he can do, so much dor the youth policy.
