Salah and KDB  were ok players too apparently.

If he was that good Neil bath would of fought for him to stay within the club and loan him out while extending his contract. He’s not that good people just overhyping him because he comes from our academy.

I can bet my mortgage he will not be anywhere near as good as Salah or KdB, both you could see the potential was there.
His level is championship to lower premier league team.

Great kid just not the elite talent we need.

Good luck to him - can never fault his attitude and had some good games.  I was always concerned if he could handle the physicality of the PL, and will be eagerly watching for him to show me he can.

It’s so weird we’ve sold him for apparently £9m when every time he’s played for us he was MOTM and in the same window we’ve signed the Italian laddie for €15m. Whoever signed off on the Norwich loan should be following him out the door - was always going to be a disaster sending him to the ultimate yo-yo club.

Not convinced on Tuchel’s talent ID at the best of times and think we could regret this but the fact we didn’t get close to a decent fee for him makes it worse.

I'm not sure what to think. One thing I am certain of is that letting him go for £9m without any buy back clause would be incredibly short sighted. My main issue with him is his build, he get's bullied in the Premier League which is why he couldn't handle playing for a side down in the relegation spots. He would struggle as much as Jorginho when it comes to the physical side of the game, but at the same time, he's only 21. I do think he is really talented though and has a lot of potential.

One thing I will say is that we are quick to throw out our young players and bring in players for large amounts of money thinking they will be a lot better and then they later turn out to be flops. I personally don't think the likes of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Timori were world class players that should have started every week for us, but the players we have bought in have been no better, some of them have been worse! I look at players like Havertz and in probably over half of the games he has played for us, you wouldn't even notice he was playing. This is his third season now and in the first 5 games, he has been awful. He hasn't improved a single bit in his time at the club. If his name was Tino Anjorin, he would have been dropped after his first game, sent out on loan or sold.

We are a club that have been absolute suckers for a flashy name for years now. Turbo Timo, Kai "Generational Talent" Havertz. Koulibaly is super special, he has 2 nicknames, "The Wall" and "K2", the only thing he has done so far is look mediocre in everything he has done. What is this? are we building a team of boxers or something? Just give me some footballers that aren't hyped up by social media as the next best thing every time.

We also signed "next Virgil van Dijk". We're better off building the next marvel comics superteam instead of coherent talent identification.

This is pretty much the nail on the head although I disagree on Tammy & Tomori. Tomori showed his class last year in helping AC win the title & Tammy proved he was a good PL striker at only 22 years old while wearing the “cursed” number 9, and playing with these same attackers we have now. He was our best striker since Costa albeit other than him the bar was in the basement. Both more than adequate to play for us over Havertz & Azpi these days.

Under Frank when he featured he was excellent. After that he's been hit and miss. In Norwich he was closer to a disaster.

He needs to be around talented players and in a good attacking side. I think he is going to be a good player but his lack of physicality is a problem in the Prem. I bet in Germany he'd instantly be a brilliant player.

Tuchel chose between him and Gallagher. Conor is much more a Prem style player so it makes sense it went like this.

I think his point was that all these "fantastic" talents doesn't always pan out. A couple of years ago there was calls for Mbuyamba to be included in the first-team but everyone who's watched him play for the reserves realized he was far from good enough.

That's my thoughts too. We aren't in a position to demand a big fee and ge hasn't remotely developed in the past 18 months. I had high hopes for him but the Norwich move was a disaster and, regardless of what fans might think, I think you have to assume he hasn't shown much in training to merit anything other than being miles from the squad.

It doesnt really work though when you see we paid £20m for a Villa kid who`s barely kicked a ball for them in the first team, Billy is an international player with a full season of prem league football behind him. If there is no buy back clause then its a ridiculous fee no matter how anyone spins it.

I think the Norwich palava has clouded some minds to Gilmour, as during the same period he was mostly excellent for Scotland when playing international football. Norwich was a complete balls up, I said at the time it was the wrong club to send him to and would end poorly for him and us. A club destined to fight relegation all season, that sold several of its best players was hardly going to utilise him well.

I don't think we will regret this in the same vein as KDB but there's no doubt in my mind that Gilmour is a great talent and will become a solid player in the PL. I don't think he will ever become a starter in a title winning team but he would have been a solid squad player nonetheless.

Why the need to choose when we are desperate in the midfield? They are different players that can cover different areas of the midfield, and Gilmour is the closest next thing we had to rotate Jorginho. Who else do we have in the midfield that can stay healthy? This move is just shooting ourselves in the foot, if not for the quality, for the lack of cover we have in that part of the pitch.

It's the contract running out thing that puts the fee down. He wasn't going to sign a new contract and isn't going to play and  there was only limited interest in him. We could have pushed for more  been rejected and then get £5m in January or free next summer.

The Villa lads contract was running down too, he had less than 12 months which is why we could negotiate with him.

For those people that are actually interested in Billy's future this is his best opportunity. He is more likely to play regularly at Brighton than at Chelsea. What's the problem? Brighton are  a good side, we might easily lose to them right this instant. Tommy clearly doesn't rate him and that's pretty much all there is to it.

True but there were other big clubs all making enquiries about him with Dortmund particularly interested. There was very little concrete interest in Gilmour.

I would be astounded if no other clubs were interested in signing an international for that fee, especially when you remember his man of them match against England not long ago and how hes played in general for Scotland. You only have to look at some of the ridiculous fees paid for players in the same bracket as him.

It was transfer deadline day. All a player has to do is buy a book about street crime and he is linked to a move to Liverpool.

Despite that there was nothing on Gilmour until a late move by Brighton. This despite it being obvious for weeks he was available.

I think you'd be astounded.

If a club bigger than brighton wanted him, and would have paid over 10m, they'd have got him.

Definitely sad to see him leave. The main issue we seem to have as a team is our current form. If we were flying I'm sure players like Broja and gilmour even might have been trusted more. Because we are playing so badly it has meant a greater reluctance on him trusting some of the youth players, as he is looking for experience to get us through it. Its a shame because those same experienced players are letting us down.

Did we insert a buy back clause or right of first refusal in this deal or we just sold him out straight.. I need to know cos all the reports are silent on this

Unless he himself wanted to just go to Brighton, who have been in discussion for a while over signing him.

https://www.90min.com/posts/billy-gilmour-set-for-permanent-brighton-transfer

Brighton emerged as the leading suitor for Gilmour, but given they already have centre-back Levi Colwill on loan from the Blues, they had to pursue a permanent deal and sources have confirmed to 90min that an agreement has now been reached.

Gilmour is now heading for a medical and will be leaving Chelsea for a fee of around £10m.

It is believed that Chelsea have also negotiated a buy-back clause for Gilmour, with Chelsea's ownership reluctant to give up on the 21-year-old permanently.

Well, there is no confirmation yet that there is a buy back clause in place because the two clubs are not disclosing any information about it.
