The main issue is, do you see him coming back next season and competing for actual playing time in our squad? I definitely wouldn't kick him to the curb, and I think he has a lot to offer our squad. But, I don't think he is going to want to be a 5th or 6th option and play mostly cup matches and the occasional CL/PL tie. If we are truly looking to bring in Tchuameni or Rice then that means our midfield options are going to be: Kova, Mount, Gallagher, Kante, Jorgi, Rice/Tchuameni and then Gilmour. Granted, if we do bring in Tchuameni or Rice, then there is a chance that Jorgi wouldn't even be here.

This is also assuming that RLC, Saul, and Barkley are no longer with the squad.

I actually think Lampard is going to be in for him in the summer. Considering he's got a year left on his contract I am almost certain Gilmour would want to join Lampard at Everton. Preferably we'd get a buy-back clause but I really doubt that with only a year left. But we should be able to get a decent amount of money if we do sell him at least.

Yeah, with Frank at Everton I think that will definitely open some doors. I think we have a relatively decent relationship with Everton -- think of them selling us Barkley for 15m ... wait... they might be laughing at us now lol -- ANYWAYS, yes I think that is definitely a possibility for Billy.

Completely gone off just like Ampadu..

Ampadu's having a decent season in the Serie A to be fair to him, he's just gone under the rader. Similar to Chalobah in the French league last year. Even at Sheffield United he wasn't awful, he was about the same level as the rest of their defenders at the time, and he got a full year of PL experinence.

Gilmour is a lot more worrying however, he can't even get a game at the worst team in the league. Even if their style doesn't suit him, theres a chance this loan shatters his confidence

Gilmour also got a lot of stick from Norwich's own fans.. thats why i think we should rather loan to top championship sides than EPL sides..

Hopefully an aspiring EPL club rather than one also fighting relegation.

I don't see Billy making it at top level yet really hope he gets the chance to prove me wrong.

Fair enough. Very similar comments made about De Bruyne when he was here.

I can't say I agree with you but only because I've never thought that either player is Chelsea level. I therefore don't believe they've gone off. Rather I think neither of them ever really had great prospects at Chelsea.

In Billy's case I've held that opinion since I first saw videos of him playing for Rangers U18. With Ethan my conviction that he is not Chelsea material dates back to a game at Stamford Bridge when he lined up in midfield. Everything was off. His control wasn't sharp enough, his passing wasn't shape enough and his awareness wasn't shape enough.

Not bothered at all tbh, it’s normal with an academy like ours we’re going to have to lose a lot of players, talent or not / nice guy or not. At present RLC is ahead of him for game time and that’s not even mentioning the addition of Gallagher. 😅

A one year extention is our usual process before loaning out a player near the end of their deal. I expect we try for a much better loan fit for Billy now.

I would think we have extended the deal either to take a closer look at him as part of the 1st team or sell him (stock is probably low after his Norwich loan). I would take the former option, and sell RLC who has suitors in Italy.

injury and a poor loan has really set him back.. break or make 12 months for him to decide weather he ends up a cleverly level talent or actually at big 4/6 level...

You mean loan RLC to his Italian suitors right? Italian clubs only buy players from us after a year or 2 on loan first.

What i've heard is that Billy either wants more game time here or a permanent move somewhere else. This one year extension was an option the club had so obviously it makes all the sense in the world to trigger that. Because while i'd like to keep Gilmour we can sell him for more now if Everton or someone else show interest and the club decide the bid is good enough.

That would be a shame as players like him tend to peak in their late 20s.

I would have hoped Trevoh's promotion would have made them realise there's a pathway if their patient and succesful on loan but clearly not.

Players like him (Xavi etc.) need a load of playing time at that position in a heavy possession based team.

Loan him to one of the frontrunners in a weaker league that would start him (rather than the worst team in a strong league like Norwich), maybe like Ajax, Porto Fenebahce or Marseille and watch him flourish.
