Welcome to Chelsea Ben Chilwell

Alonso has purple patches and then drops levels, is what he does.

In a Conte system. He is a very good wingback. Our wingbacks play far more in the game than Contes, far more to do. They need to be super fit, have an engine to get up and down the pitch all game and have excellent ball control, technique and vision. Marcos has the vision, that is it. We are better off with Dave there than Alonso getting gased.

I think you are still judging Alonso based on his performance for Lampard. He hasn't let us down in the wingback position under Tuchel. I believe he is one of our most technically gifted players and a big goal threat. Alonso's Engine was good when the season started and was worthy of a starting position over Chilwell but Kudos to Chilwell for stepping up and winning his place back.  We should give Marcos a chance first before we throw him under the bus.

If his levels drop we can play CHO or Azpi in his position

Depends whether TT wants either of them and if we have recall clauses in either deal.

Oh, for sure. It's easy to arbitrarily just say recall, but if it is an option, that is what I would do.

Some media source has thrown out fear, ACL and Chilwell into same story and is driving this reaction.  Obviously serious injury, but remaining hopeful and waiting on diagnosis and club statement.  Come on Chilly - please be ok!

Definitely not CHO. He is actually playing well in his position he will be so much poorer as wingback.

Far as Marcos goes, prove me wrong Alonso!

Literally praying this isn't true. My only hope is that, the apparent link is from the Sun. Either way, not hopeful but clinging on to hope. Alonso has done well at LWB, but Chilwell is just better and has been world class recently.

Sounds serious enough. Gutted for him. Alonso is very good cover but I worry that he becomes complacent when he is given a run of games.

And has no competition. Dave may be the better option. Ways felt he was a better LB than RB. Maybe same is true of wingback.

Was hoping the club would have something official out by now. Hopefully soon.

Here it is. Terrible news.

Seriously set back for our hopes of regaining the CL-title and PL. Alonso will be an obvious weak spot in this team and his terrible lack of pace will hamper our entire style in my view.

That is not the club though, that is a journo. Was hoping for news on the club website. Likely we wait till the Friday presser now.

I agree with you about Alonso though, United and West ham will target his side and if Claudio is smart he puts Sarr on him too.

A very real option could be to put Rudiger there and bring AC over to LCB.

Apart from Alonso and probably Saul, too, I think we will see Hudson-Odoi at LWB a lot. The way Tuchel uses his full backs now makes CHO somehow of a perfect fit there, especially against lesser sides.

Gutted for Chilly though... Hopefully it is not a full tear.

Really disappointing if true, was in such great form and a really important player.  I wonder if this forces us to buy in Jan also to get some more left footers there.

What is really frustrating is that it could have been avoided. The team were dominating, the fans were jumping and he seemed to get an adrenaline rush from it and threw himself towards the Juve player when he didn't really need to.

I had a feeling it was bad with the way he was shaking his head when he was being helped off the pitch. If it's a tear, then he is out for the rest of the season for sure, hopefully it's not that bad though.

Gutted for Chilly, whether it’s worst case scenario out for rest of the season or just the busy festive period it’s BAD news. Only thing that makes the pint glass half full is that we lost our only strikers to injury a few weeks ago and didn’t miss a beat. We have 2 players that can provide cover at LWB neither is of Chilly’s ability to excel in TT system unfortunately, but I reckon that between them they will do a job for the team. GET FIT SOON 🥶 !!

A loan maybe; doubt any quality player will come here to be backup to Alonso, and end up 3rd choice when Chiwell returns.

We still have Emerson & Baba Rahman on our books for what it’s worth

This doesn't sound great.

Big blow to our season if the worst is confirmed here. Him and Reece have been so important for our season so far.

Uhh not good.

Ben was in a form of his life and the best was yet to come. I am so f**king depresed. I like Alonso a lot but if we are for the PL title it may show Ben was too crucial. Azpi can do much at defending but for attacking left foot is essential.

I do hope I’m wrong

Yeah it is a real shame for him and us.

I believe Ben has developed this season and shown he is better than Marcos offensively and Dave defensively. Huge blow.

Just have to hope Alonso can show good form and be focused, and that Toni adapts to the extra defending this will bring.

Think we know which player Taylor will be aiming to send off this time.
