City can go 10 points ahead of Liverpool, that's massive at this stage of the season, title should be theirs in the bag now.

Their next 5 games are Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham and United. If they come out of that on top, then they have won it.

They are the only team that is looking consistent this year. But knowing this season, I won’t be surprised if they go through dismal form like Liverpool now.

I feel this is a very underrated stance/under appreciated set of circumstances.

The knock on effect next season will be interesting, all teams will have played the equivalent of a team going all the way in cup ties plus a league campaign. When you add the Euros on top plus international breaks and then complicate it next year with a World Cup, fatigue both mentally and physically will be a problem. I could see squad sizes increased to say 30 to cover this though that would really only benefit the wealthier clubs. Interesting times.

Wow Liverpool what are you doing? The bottom 3 are getting no help from them at all.

Bad day for us. Everton, Leicester and West ham all win.

Villa dropping points is good though and Liverpool are potentially within reach if we don’t cock everything up tonight. Some positives there if you look for them!

Also what chance do Brighton have against the once more firing Liverpool machine? Not great I would say lol...

That aged well 🙂  Perhaps Klopp's job is under threat from the social meeja warriors now.

First target is to catch West Ham ....never thought I'd ever be saying that in the last 15 years :face_palm:

I wonder how many "fans" are on the Dippers forums now demanding a change of manager, given they are in a slump similar to ours.

After the stuff Klopp has won for them, that would be stupid, they're batsh*t insane if they want rid of him.

A worse crisis than us, and yet our fans WERE batsh*t insane and wanted rid of Lampard.

I forgot Lampard won us a Champions League and Premier League before he got sacked.

Don't be a childish prick.  You are better than that.

Lampard and Klopp have both led their teams into a mid-season slump.  What they did in a previous life has no relevance to that, same as Havertz being amazing in the Aachen under-11's Sunday league has no bearing on him playing like a twonk in a Chelsea shirt, or Werner's record-breaking scoring record in Germany having any relevance to him not being able to connect with the ball in an empty penalty area last match.

I'm not being childish Yorkley, but it's a silly comparison and you know it. One thing that truly grinds my gears is the Klopp comparisons with Lampard, it's just silly. Klopp was a very accomplished manager before he got the hotseat at Liverpool, he did great things at Dortmund, much better than Tuchel who's quite respected among managers.

It's all good talking about how current form went and who's slump was worse, but you're missing the context. Klopp has won liverpool the big one after 30 years when it looked nigh on impossible for them at the time. He made them back to title challengers and one of the best teams in the world, also while winning a Champions League. Is that really a comparison you want to draw here and call fans like myself batsh*t insane? If Lampard won those things I would never be calling for his head the next season.

You're only as good as your latest results and I call it hypocrisy to clamour for the sacking of our manager after a few poor results and yet defend a rival manager for what is on the face of it a worse set of results, regardless of what they might have done last season.  The context of past history well suits the dippers, that's all they have, but it sits ill with me in a Chelsea forum.

I don't think so, and that wasn't my reason for getting rid of Lampard either. When we talk about context I'm not talking about 30 years ago, I'm talking about just last season Liverpool looked invincible. Past 5 years Klopp has done a good job. He did a very good job at Dortmund, that got him the Liverpool job in the first place. It's not a fair comparison to Lamps.

If Lampard won the league last season, and I wanted him gone now, would you really refuse to bring up the fact that he won the league last year? And he shouldn't be sacked? Of course you wouldn't. You would definitely mention it and rightfully so! There's a reason why I wanted this club to hang onto the likes of Jose and Ancelotti, especially after that awful 3rd season with Jose, I felt the club had to stick by him after everything he's accomplished there. I believed under Jose we could come back if we gave him the backing and time, give him a restart, etc. He's got a proven track record for winning things, despite a lack of longterm jobs, unfortunately for Lampard, he had neither of those.

I must admit I'm getting sick of the Lampard arguments now and I would like to move on. But I also feel that I have to defend my position on it, and numerous others, strawman arguments don't help.

Interesting. So RB Leipzig could miss out on qualifying for the next round due to the German Government's travel restrictions during the Covid pandemic and UEFA's rules on not fulfilling a fixture, As the the German Government spokesperson has stated Liverpool travelling to Germany for a football match is not essential travel. It will be interesting to see how many more matches are cancelled due to travel restrictions.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55941213

Liverpool will not be able to travel to Germany for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against RB Leipzig on 16 February.

Germany has banned most travellers from countries, including the UK, hit hard by new variants of Covid-19.

A German interior ministry statement said Bundesliga club Leipzig had been told the fixture "does not meet the requirements for an exception".

Uefa said it was "in touch with the respective clubs" about the tie.

Liverpool are being kept informed of developments as discussions take place about a solution.

European football's governing body Uefa has updated its regulations for the knockout stages of the Champions League and Europa League amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

If restrictions imposed in a country could result in a match not taking place, "the home club must propose a suitable alternative venue, which may be in a neutral country".

However, if the host club fails to do that and it is not possible to play the game at another venue or on a different date, Uefa says it will deem the match to have been forfeited, with the home side losing 3-0.

With Germany's restrictions in place until 17 February, an option could be to reverse the tie so Liverpool host the first leg. The second leg is scheduled to take place on 10 March.

Uefa added: "In all cases, the venue of a match must be approved by the Uefa administration, which has the right to assign an alternative venue for any particular match or even to decide that either or both legs of the relevant round to be rescheduled and/or played in a neutral country (within the territory of a Uefa member association) and/or organised as a single-leg.

"These decisions are final."
