No. The asset sits on the balance sheet. Its so the profit and loss account takes a hit for each year the asset is used up. Its the accountancy rule that the total  cost of an asset should be charged to the profit and loss account over the useful life of the asset.

Simplifying a little if  we pay the 90m in one go (assuking a 5 year contract) then you see

1. A hit to the cash balance of 90m straight away

2. A new asset of 90m straight away

3. End of  year one a charge to the profit and loss account of 18m

4. End of year one a reduction to the asset of 18m.

If we say pay 50m up front and 40m over 5 years you see

1. Hit to cash balance straight away of 50m

2. A creditor created straight away of 40m

3. A new asset straight away of 90m

4. End of year one a charge to profit and loss of 18m

5. End of year one a reduction  in the asset of 18m

6. In year two when you pay your first 8m instalment you see hit to cash balance of 8m, a reduction to the creditor  of 8m. You also see the charge of 18m to the profit and loss and 18m reduction in the asset

Just realised how boring I'm being!

Haha I’ll take your word on it.  I’m guessing however it’s worked out the club won’t want to be making too much of a loss.  The new owners won’t want to be seen as a push over in the transfer market already.

“It doesn’t look good. He twisted his ankle. We have to wait 48 hours for the MRI scan, but I would be surprised if he is still in action in the coming games. That is my feeling.”

How would they knock money off when they want him on loan with no loan fee? Have us pay them?

Chelsea are open to a salary-sharing loan deal with Inter for Lukaku. It’s clear he wants the move. However, lots of work to be done still. Chelsea want a big loan fee and Lukaku to take a significant wage cut. They won’t proceed on current terms.

Inter need to sell first before they can even consider a loan fee.

LOL. Ok so he agrees to a wage cut but we still share wages for him to represent another team?? No. Inter, stop trying to be stubborn because you want both Dybala and Lukaku in attack.

Reading we only want an obligation. Then we would split the loan wage.

Oh, and it gets worse.

🚨 Romelu Lukaku has sent public and private messages to Inter Milan since Christmas, calling directors, the coach, the President and former teammates.

He is doing everything possible to secure a return to the club.

Absolutely no chance he's around the first team for this coming season. If he can't leave for whatever reason Tuchel is going to chuck him in with the development squad the way he's acting again.

It would obviously be in our best interest to get him out of the club asap though so hopefully that happens.

Lates update: As mentioned above Chelsea willing to come to some sort of agreement with Inter.

Whats being reported is the key to unlocking the deal however, is CFC want Inter to pay a rather large loan fee.

I think it's very concerning that he's secretly been messaging the Inter board and players throughout the season. How could he be focused on his own season? Makes me think he didn't ever give us 100% effort because his heart and mind was somewhere else.

Since before Christmas he's been looking to return. That's crazy, I know there's instant regrets in life, but sounds to me he made his mind up very early it wasn't going to work out and has just been waiting until the summer to agitate for a move.

He's made a mockery of the club and the fans, I'm embarrassed I bought his shirt I can't ever wear it now 😂

Update from Ben Jacobs:

Chelsea are open to a salary-sharing loan deal with Inter for Lukaku. It’s clear he wants the move. However, lots of work to be done still. Chelsea want a big loan fee and Lukaku to take a significant wage cut. They won’t proceed on current terms.

Chelsea also ideally want to get a replacement lined up. They won’t let Lukaku leave out of ‘sentiment’ and may delay a sale to see if a better financial offer still comes in.

Lots of negotiation still needed before picture becomes clearer. But he won’t be given to Inter as a bargain and they can’t currently afford him at market value. That makes the financial terms of any deal both staggered and complicated.

Lewandowski is somewhat on #CFC radar but is firmly pushing for a three-year Barcelona deal so a move to Stamford Bridge is a long shot currently. Barca will have to offload first, though. Javier Tebas has made that very clear. But they always seem to find a way.

Be interesting, if/when Chelsea let Lukaku go if that changes how they handle Armando Broja. West Ham and Forest both interested. Told Tuchel is still keen to assess him during pre-season before deciding if he’s surplus to requirements.

People talk about Pogba but I can’t think of another high profile player who will leave the game with a worse legacy than Lukaku. Flopped twice in the biggest moves of his career, laughing stock of an entire football culture and the most significant league, one trophy of worth in 30 years, flopped with the golden generation of Belgium and he won’t even be a legend for his newly beloved Inter.. he’s a footnote on that club.

Forgot to mention CFC pushing for a big wage reduction for Lukaku if he goes on loan. They don't want to pay the majority of his wages. Reported Inter only wanted to pay around just over a 3rd of his current wages.

Based on his track record I'm convinced it started in the Autumn when we were playing so well without him. Deep down he'd know full well he was incapable of being part of the team performances we saw vs Leicester and Juve and it would have been absolutely killing him.

I personally hope we don't loan him to Inter. It's basically a scam. They pay only a third of his wages for a couple of years, make use of him, Lukaku gets what he wants and then they dump him back on us with high wages when he's in his thirties. We should either look for a better buyer or cut our losses and throw him in the reserves as punishment from all these stories I'm reading about him plotting this since December.

Inter are rumoured to be offering a loan fee of £20m (obviously their value of him) and approx 50% of his salary. We have to balance this against the possibility that no other club will want him or can afford him. We certainly don't want a miserable whinging star in the reserves on £325k per week. So its probably best that we take the best deal on the table and get rid. Yes its going to cost us £70m+ in losses, but Boehly will probably console himself with the fact that this was a shocking deal that he didn't do 🥵

Always annoys me whenever I see one of those articles and it labels Crespo a Chelsea flop. He was superb for us - it's a massive shame he and his wife couldn't settle. His finishing and movement is some of the best I have ever seen at Chelsea.

Agreed.  Those articles annoy me too.  One of my favourite strikers.  Crespo's goal celebrations worth the admission price alone.
