Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

Featured Replies

He's explicitly asked the club to let him go back to Italy apparently.

Let him go in that case.

Very unfair to lump Mata in with that ... JM was absolute class for us.

You'd be better off using Oscar as the comparison to Silva.

Comparison and Mata's contribution is irrelevant. We were seriously looking at Silva but hesitated and then grabbed Mata as a consolation.

Well when you see your team to two trophies, two cup finals, a CL quarter, and 3rd in the league - and there would have been legitimate concern that his job still may have been on line.... It's not surprising that we've ended up with Torres instead of Aguero, Mata instead of Silva, Lukaku instead of whoever. No manager would wait for the better option while Roman was around.

I will not stand for any Juan Mata slander

Rom has changed his agent, a move to facilitate his departure?

Apparently the new owners have set terms for his departure after confirming TT is happy to let him go.

I have seen a 20mill euro loan with a 70mill euro buy obligation mentioned along with a 70mill euro permanent transfer.

I thought we still owed 70 million on the original Lukaku deal?

We do, and the mugs want us to still pay the remaining balance, whilst loaning Lukaku back to them, whilst covering the majority of his wages.

Can only hope Bayern are desperate enough for Lukaku.

Source?

Current state of affairs:

Lukaku sought assurances from Tuchel that he would have a bigger role than he had this season. He wanted clarity on his position in the team, no doubt Rom wants to be a regular and the star in attack that the team plays to his strengths.

TT and the board confirmed to Rom they're happy for him to leave were a suitable offer/arrangement to be found. Romelu then hired lawyers and is using both these and his agent (who he blames for bad career advice bringing him to CFC) to facilitate a move.

Romelu's priority remains to return to Inter Milan. Inter Milan surprisingly very open to having him back, however don't have the wage capacity or transfer funds to facilitate a transfer as it stands. A loan move touted, exact figures need to be confirmed. Reported €15-20m loan fee for a season and then obligation to buy for €50-60m. With Inter willing to cover €7m per year on his wage not sure how much that leaves Chelsea to pay but its supposedly a wage cut of 40-50% from his current deal.

Important to note that Italian transfers/loans are very different to the ones over here. Apparently it's not possible to do a 2 year loan and then obligation to buy, due to their laws, we could only do a one year loan and then either sell or do another loan followed by a sale. Also time is of the essence as its reported the deal needs to be done by the 30th June for some reason.

Finally it's also reported Bayern have been in contact or are at least interested and may discuss with his agent in due course. Whilst he would make sense as a Lewandowski replacement I'm not sure he would fit their style (not that that's our problem xD). Ideally we sell to Bayern because we would get a transfer fee immediately that can be used for the squad rebuild.

Juventus has also been previously mentioned however it remains to be seen if Rom would be willing to move to a different Italian side because of his apparent love for Inter.

Edit: Liklihood is he moves and the curse of the number 9 continues ahaha

Bayern looks to be ready to accommodate Lukaku. Guessing that he’ll end up scoring loads there just to further have an argument against CFC not having a clue how to use a striker...

My goodness, if we end up selling him back to Inter, what a gd waste of everyone's time this transfer would turn out to be.

Not for any lawyers and agents involved £££$$$€€€

Is not like Bayern to invest such money both in fees and wages to make this deal happen though, especially when Mane is their main target.

This is the best option, we can swap for Lewandowski as well. With Haaland moving, Mbappe staying, Harry Kane probably not being sold for another year as they want to back Conte.
There is a real lack of top strikers available, Inter are going to lowball us so I feel like Bayern are the only ones we can get a decent fee from.

Don't believe everything you read in 'The Sport Review' - incredibly unreliable.

Wait you don’t believe/know Mata won Chelsea player of the year 2 times in row?

When’s the last time a Chelsea player got 19 goals and 35 assists in a season?  Maybe you didn’t watch him play for us, he was top class.  I was gutted when he left cause old Jose didn’t know what to do with him, a bit like De Bruyne and Salah I guess.

Not really, we all loved Mata during the worst quality spell of the Roman era but Kevin De Bruyne & Salah are generational talents.

I must not if you're repeatedly stating it as if I'm a Spurs supporter.

Note, you originally responded to a tongue-in-cheek comment. Mata was great for us and I'm well aware of his achievements.

(But Silva was better, wanted to join us, and is the one we should have signed from Valencia)

Lukaku has never been talented enough to play for Bayern.

He wouldn't make their bench.

I don't think they'd take him on a free.

Bayern will walk the Bundesliga whoever they have up front so the question becomes who can you sign to help you win the champions league.

And if you did a 2000 man shortlist of best players in the world who could help a club win the champions league Lukaku at his best wouldn't be near it.  It's a level too high for him.

There's no market for Lukaku at the highest level or the richest clubs, the talent just isn't there.

Best hope is Newcastle wanting a minor upgrade on Chris Wood and not being able to attract a top striker.
