Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

Yea Giroud was a good team player, but for me, not even close to Costa as a striker. Giroud was on the same level at Chelsea as someone like Demba Ba or Kalou (here he is again @Valerie). Could always rely on some goals but they won't give you 90mins as a complete forward. Though at the same time, I think we got hold of Giroud too late for that.

The main problem with Costa was Conte!

As a striker no Olly was not close to Costa, but neither was Drogba imo. Diego was a pure striker, a natural goalscorer and when paired with a player like Cesc 20 plus goals a season was a sure thing so long as he was focused. Diego was that player who could play 70 minutes and have only 10 touches of nothing and then bang in 4 minutes he has had 4 more touches and scored 2 goals to win a game.

I look at Drogba and Olly more as forwards than strikers (as in offering more to the team but being less lethal).

Think it goes both ways Mod, Contes biggest problem was Costa too.

I think Giroud would have been the best one to keep if we wanted an option to mix things up when needed. He's the most intelligent tactically out of the three and we've actually had some very good fluid/pressing games with him up top despite his lack of speed.

Then again, it would have a very hard sell to him given he was wanted by one of the world's biggest clubs willing to give him a much more prominent role.

At the back end of last season, Giroud looked very slow. Like you said, I think it was good decision for both parties to let him go.

Agreed. It’s a massive shame about his attitude because he really was the best goalscorer I’ve seen at Stamford Bridge.

Before my time however I could have seen Diego being that Chelsea teams Kerry Dixon had he kept his head on straight.

Mod. Anelka and Crespo?

Definitely @just I'd put Nico a hair under Drogba & Costa. I think he even got a golden boot when Drogba got injured.

Crespo, lovely fella but didn't even Morata get more goals in the end for us. The technical play by Crespo was amazing. He knew the offside line faster than any linesman and VAR would have a field day with him today.

Only here a short time but technically Crespo is one of the best we ever had. One of those rare players that was 10 yards ahead of everyone else in his thinking and reading of the game. Drogba was probably the best I have ever seen in the air, period. But Crespo was also superb.

Romelu Lukaku is speaking to #Chelsea personally rather than through his agent Federico Pastorello in an attempt to convince the club to allow him to return to Inter this summer.

Surley it does not take much convincing. Just agree to cut your wages Rom as we know you don't want to be here, TT clearly does not want you here, your team mates don't look like they want you here and a good amount of us fans don't want you here.

Am sure the new owners would love to get your wages off the books.

More than happy to let him go if we could get our money back, and I think under new ownership he will be cut. He's been a distractor off the field most of the season, on top of being useless on the field. It's almost become acceptable he'd be useless in big games. I dare say we'd had a better season if he wasn't signed, at least the team didn't have to find a way to accommodate him

"So Romelu, what can I do for you today mate..."

"Hi Ted, I want to to leave and go to...."

"OK, no problem, off yo sod then"....

I think who ever sanctioned / scouted / recommended Lukaku should put their hands up and admit they royally f**ked up big time.

He really is the worst ever signing Chelsea have ever made, probably one of the worse in England.

Bakayoko, Kepa, Morata all worse for Chelsea

I'd take 70m

I’d say Kepa is the worst signing in football history imo

Surely the worst signing for the amount of money that was paid. It would probably be less painful had he cost 20 million.

He isn’t the worst goalie in the world, but just the factors around it, £70m for any goalie is extortionate in the first place, but for a goalie who had never played at CL level that most people had never even heard of is insanity. Then we gave him a 7 year contract and within 2 years we were looking for a replacement because he was rubbish.

Pulisic was another terrible deal that goes under the radar. Reserve at Dortmund, going out of contract at the time and we paid £60 million for him. Dortmund must have thought we were complete idiots. We were in fairness.

Our transfer policy the last few years have been a complete atrocity.

Just a reminder of how to score proper goals from a fantastic player.

Always annoys me whenever I see one of those articles and it labels Crespo a Chelsea flop. He was superb for us - it's a massive shame he and his wife couldn't settle. His finishing and movement is some of the best I have ever seen at Chelsea.

Was fine is his first six months and was fine when Mendy was at AFCON. L

Completely agree with this but he is still terrible gk.

I don't really judge player based on form, I judge player of what they can do and kepa is terrible.

Puli was probably our best player in lamp 1st season.
