Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

When Havertz plays 'up top', he operates in a similar manner to Firmino at Liverpool with him being there to create rather than be a focal point and finisher like Lukaku is. It would be like comparing Aguero's output to Bergkamp's.

Before the Leeds and Liverpool game we have been playing 3412 and he’s been playing cf with Werner.

Correct, when 352 has been utilised he’s still been more of a playmaker trying to get it in behind for Werner.

When we was playing CF with Werner he was garbage, earlier in the season when he was playing behind Lukaku he was garbage too.

He had a brief good spell of form that lasted about a month, thats it the whole season.

Werner, Lukaku, Havertz.

Havertz is the only one of the three who has true quality. The killer first touch for his goal against Newcastle was absolutely stunning. The other two would boot themselves up the arse if they even dared to try and control a ball like that. Not that they even have that level of vision and belief, let alone the ability!

Villa at home. All his goals came from counter attacking play but his overall performance was pretty good.

But again, we shouldn't dumb down to counter attacking football. It's the very reason I have little confidence in Conte elevating Spurs next season.

read my above reply to Jack. A 'number 9' means nothing to how someone plays, it's just a position for Sky Sports to put your face on the infographic before kick off for the line up.

My point is that he is not playing false 9, he is playing as a 9.

When cross comes in you expect him to be in the box. He is also receive the ball higher than everyone.

Our own manager compares him to Bergkamp and Berbatov, neither of which were traditional nines. He has him operating in half spaces for runners off him. Yes a 'false 9' can still be in the box, doesn't mean he's a traditional 9 like Lukaku is supposed to be though.

His debut against Arsenal when he bullied their defenders was pretty much the high point and it went downhill from there

The City and Juve games was when the reality really started to hit.

I think Havertz has had more good games than Lukaku this season, but more than that, when he doesnt have a good game, he is still closing down defenders, getting on the ball, and generally being involved in the game. Too many times this season, Lukaku has just been static, and a complete passager, its not like he is trying things and they coming off, he is like playing with a man down.

Fortunately in the last 15 yrs, you get used to seeing, quality strikers here Drogs , Anelka, Costa, then the PL superstars Suarez, Kane, Aguero, the one thing they had was great alround technique, you rarely see composure and Trekkers from big Rom, yea he knows where the net is, I feel aggrieved we didn’t have some tenuous link to Kane, simply wasted at Spurs, he could of been a legend, mind you we’d of f**ked up how he plays, lol

And, crucially, Havertz facilities the team better. Take the Real away match for example, he was pretty poor individually but we wouldn't in a million years be able to produce a team performance like that with Rom up top.

He needs space to perform .. the way we play is too slow and labored .. we play at least 5 passes amongst the cbs even if we aren’t getting g pressed .. he isn’t that bad a player as most make him out to be .. you don’t score the goals he has scored if you are crap..

We play technical yet some of the slowest players in the league in key positions .. look at Jorgi, Alonso, Azpi, also in forward positions mount and havertz won’t run away from many like Salah, mane, luiz, sterling, etc.

I really feel sorry for our forward players yes this snap at chances but we also struggle to create a lot.

That's PSG gone as a potential buyer if the last bit is true.

Ridiculous, it's way out of tilt with what they earn, they are literally pumping oil out of the ground and straight into his bank account. Also allowing such a young player a say on signings and sales is asking for trouble.

I know a lot of people want him gone but I personally doubt he is leaving. No one is going to take him off so fans have to accept the fact that he is probably going to be here next season. Might have another striker to compete with him but he will still be in blue.

Having said that, I still think we can still get the best out of him and up the 15 goals we got from him this season to a 25 if we switch from our laboured passing approach in the final third to a more direct style. That would mean getting rid of people like Ziyech and Pulisic for forwards that would be more willing to carry the ball and run at defenders. Chillwell coming back will also help.
