April 2, 20224 yr Should have stayed at home. Big day out for Brentford though. The worst we have been all season.
April 2, 20224 yr Understandably a lot of head-scratching and theories over our poor performance today. International break, uncertainty over the club, contracts running down etc. All of these may well have factored in. But, with the odd exceptional period in a game or 2, we really haven't been that good since we lost Chilly and Reece in November. We have managed to grind out a few important wins recently without playing that well. Today we looked as though we might do the same when we briefly got ourselves in front. But Brentford have rediscovered form recently and punished us. We still have plenty to play for and may yet win one of the trophies that we are competing for. But either way it has been apparent for much of this season that several players need to be replaced. Hopefully we can sort out the new ownership by the end of the season, and then strengthen the squad with a signing or 2, aligned with key players returning from loans.
April 2, 20224 yr It’s just really annoying to pay for the tickets, get the train and tube to go to the game to see the players show such a lack of attitude and care. It’s disrespectful to the fans that make an economic sacrifice and take the time to go to the matches. It’s fine to loose, not every week we can win, but such a lack of intent is just disrespecting your supporters. I hope that someone does a Will Smith to the players that have shown no interest whatsoever today.
April 2, 20224 yr Fantastic performance from Brentford. Really was top draw. To see themselves drop behind to Toni's thunderbolt and to come back like they did was exceptional. Hats off to them.
April 2, 20224 yr Far as we go man of the match is simple for Toni for the amazing strike. Otherwise everything else was so embarrassing. Brentford worked harder, wanted it more and were better organized and coached. Just embarrassed everywhere on the pitch. Even Silva could not save us. Mendy needs to step up, we cannot be letting garbage shots like goal 3 go through him.
April 2, 20224 yr Given the bigger picture. It was probably a very astute business move. Wipe £1 billion off the purchase price with one result
April 2, 20224 yr We invited it on ourselves.. I am sure Alonso Werner hate putting on the shirt .. they must know that they are nowhere near good enough. the second goal was abdolute comedy and so was the first.. this is the 3-4th time we have conceded from a corner we were taking.. poor tactical awareness and lack of pace in our defence…

I mean Arsenal beat them, Leicester beat them before the international break, and Newcastle beat them. Yet we make them look that good? our defence has gone to Edited April 2, 20224 yr by Petworth Chelsea Fan
April 2, 20224 yr Given where Brentford have come from how many chances do they get to thrash the European and World Champions in their own back yard. Much as our display upsets me you have to give it to them. Is a result they won't forget.
April 2, 20224 yr Don’t get to go to many matches cus I live in LA so imagine my excitement that I luckily treated myself, brother & nephew to tickets before the ticket ban came into effect, off down the M40 earlier today expecting Chelsea to make it 6 prem win's in a row. But alas it was not to be, mediocre performances all over the pitch. The only real good bit was the couple of minutes or so after Rudy’s goal. Stayed for the full 90 + 4 unlike a lot today, was horrid hearing their away mob singing “We want 5” at the end. Going back for more on Weds, hope today was just a ruse to lull Real into a false sense of security.

Felt like players and fans were subdued today. Edited April 2, 20224 yr by Petworth Chelsea Fan
April 2, 20224 yr Disappointing game today. Playing a back four with Alonso was a shock and a surprise. First half was poor but didn’t see the second half coming! Haven’t seen the goals or chances again yet, watching it live though at times it was like Sunday morning footballers that had hangovers from the night before. We can’t play that system or that badly on Wednesday. I have to say towards the end of the game it felt like around 1982 with how few fans were left and the performance. I didn’t need a De Lorean car either!!
April 2, 20224 yr @Munkworth despite us all feeling pretty crumy about this game I am guessing you at least have the comfort it happened this weekend rather than next weekend eh?
April 2, 20224 yr I’m never confident when we play Brentford, Fulham or QPR. They are our local rivals who will see this as probably the match they would most like to win in a season, whereas our players probably see other London teams like Arsenal, Spurs and West Ham as bigger matches to be motivated for. I reckon there will be players who won’t even understand the amount of effort that Brentford put in today. Getting up a picture of Google Maps on the screen should be part of any team talk when playing QPR, Fulham and Brentford. Then maybe we won’t take these matches for granted or won’t be surprised when we have tight matches with these kind of teams.

I think the only criticism I can offer at Brentford today is the did not sing "are you Tottenham in disguise" at our lot as it would have been richly deserved.

April 3, 20224 yr Bad day at the office, but it's not fatal. Reminded me a lot of the freak result against West Brom last year (April 3 2021) which happened to coincide after an international break.
April 3, 20224 yr We were soo weak in pressure it belief belief.. havertz / mount / werner/ziyech were not able to hold on to anything.. alonso is soo poor its beyond belief now.. gives away needless fouls and when opposing team presses him just punts the ball forward… anything will be an upgrade on him.. I am sure there are academy players who can do better.. The second goal is on the players and coaching stuff .. real school boy stuff… Mandy returned the favour from the reverse tie with poor keeping .. Kante was very indisciplined leaving RLC against a midfield .. really disappointed we made them look world class.. the players should be angry and disappointed
April 3, 20224 yr How the hell Alonso gets anywhere near the starting XI really baffles me. The guy was kinda ok when he popped up with a goal here and there a few seasons back, but his lack of mobility and being extremely one footed just gives the opposition an advantage from the start. Werner was shocking, we really need to cut our losses and pack him back off to Germany. Maybe do a deal with Dortmund to get Bellingham or Haaland. I hate these games where we just capitulate for a period of time, we always get one or two a season at least. Edited April 3, 20224 yr by Malcolm9
