April 2, 20224 yr Is that the worse performance under Tuchel since he came? I mean it was a nothing performance. There were no bright spots. And against a mediocre side too. I mean Arsenal beat them, Leicester beat them before the international break, and Newcastle beat them. Yet we make them look that good? our defence has gone to shambles.

April 2, 20224 yr That was worse than the West Brom defeat! We had a man sent off that day and everything they attempted went in, today we got the thrashing we deserved, we weren’t unlucky or nothing like that. We played today as the main objective was not to get injured and miss Wednesday’s match. Embarrasing performance!
April 2, 20224 yr I think Brentford did a number on us with clever tactics. Suffocated us in the first half by good closing-down and in the second when we pressed more they defended in numbers and caught us on the counter. Havertz could have had a hat-trick yet his finishing was not clinical. Good to see James back yet not once did he run beyond his man to put a cross in. The last goal was Rudiger and Silva getting in each others way. This may be just a blip in our season or it may be worse. Next match is important in terms of how we react.
April 2, 20224 yr I do feel that this fits really well with our usual sh*thousery way of winning getting humiliated by Brentford and beating Madrid. Would be typical I’m just saying that to myself to feel better 💔 Edited April 2, 20224 yr by azpi28

April 2, 20224 yr That result has been building for months. The 5 wins on the bounce made it seem like we doing well, but if you analysed the performances, you would see that we weren't anything special and got lucky. The lack of football ability has never been something I have worried about with this squad, it's their desire and overall attitude I always question. You can usually tell how a game is going to play out in the first 10 minutes with us. It's either we start well and soon fade, or we start poor and never really improve. What worries me most is that it seems to be part of our dna at this point. It's not something that started with this group of players, it's been there for a long time now. We go through player and managerial changes, but that same problems always exist.

April 2, 20224 yr That's grim, wasn't able to watch the match but after seeing the score maybe it was for the best. I'll probably give motd a miss tonight, on a more positive note I do agree with @azpi28 surely we see a reaction mid week. Any team that outruns us has clearly worked hard. This should in theory make us graft even harder next game. I understand it's the manner of the defeat that is the alarming aspect, but that is only our 3rd loss of 2022 with the other two coming in a cup final and vs the current league champions. April 2, 20224 yr It surely has to be time to just decide that, regardless of who is available, it's pointless playing Werner and RLC. There would be more value in giving some youth players time if we were are needing to rotate. They offer nothing whatsoever. More widely we again see that we are a team massively short of strong personalities. When the chips are down you can rely on Rudiger, Azpilicueta and Silva to keep pushing to get back in a game and you know Kante will run all day but when you look further up the field you know the the likes of Havertz, Werner, Ziyech, Pulisic, Cheek and Lukaku and to some extent Mount are not going to be game changers. You can carry a few players who don't have that competitive mentality but we are often carrying 6 or 7.

There were literally no aspects of today's performance that were remotely good enough. There was never any chance of turning the results in that game the moment Silva was sent off. We had every chance to win this game all the way back from Rudiger's first goal. In today's game, it was the attitude, the loss of concentration and composure. In the west brom game was a genuine clusterfeck of errors. People call this game worst only because it's recent. West Brom was a terrible side, this Brentford side was far better coached and had a proper gameplan

Heck we might even get that breakthrough to restart the winning run Might well be and I hope you’re right. It’s a lowering of expectations more than anything and applies to what happens beyond this season (have to assume Roman leaves a big hole) more than the rest of this season. but I guess today’s result led me to bring that assumption forward.
April 2, 20224 yr It was a shocking performance no getting away from it but I can't find myself being to severe on Tuchel and the players they have been brilliant the way they've handled themselves since the sanctions. Has to be a distraction you'd have to be a robot for it not to have an effect maybe today was the day.
April 2, 20224 yr On the face of it you'd have to say dealings off the pitch could be now taking a toll on the team, Otherwise there's no excuses today, So bad. Werner in effective and as for lukaku, Head in hands on him esp. £97M?!! Edited April 2, 20224 yr by Kantesmini
April 2, 20224 yr Definitely shades of the WBA game last season where we had one eye on the Champs League. But a shocking performance either way. We still have a bit to do in order to ensure top too. We need a strong response on Wednesday or it could be ugly.
April 2, 20224 yr Well now I calmed down.....we always have a knack of putting in one of these performances now and then and always at the most opportune times when points are needed to keep the other teams around us at bay. The shocker today will only give Arsenal and Spurs the impenitence they need to catch us. I thought TT got it so wrong today and even when everyone could see that it wasn't working, especially in the middle yet no changes were forthcoming; it was just all too late in the end and it's not the first time. I much as I like Mount he has been out of sorts in the last couple of months and offered nothing again today, perhaps it's time for a rest. Oh well onwards and upwards and lets see what the next few weeks bring; hopefully no more performances like today.
April 2, 20224 yr Author I got a feeling more than a few of our players have taken their foot off the pedal, if we win on Wednesday i will be shocked.
April 2, 20224 yr Trashed at home, conceded 4 in a single half (don't remember last time that happened). It's inexcusable. Never looked like breaking them down but they created chances at will. We've dug ourselves in a hole with the contract situation of our entire defence and now the uncertainty of our future has filtered down to the whole team.
