Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea

other critics say he never takes anyone on. 🙂

My only comment is that Sterling is pretty fit and determined this season. He played lots of minutes yesterday and still had the energy and determination to chase back 30 yards at top speed to make a successful tackle. Think he will be a good member of the team this season.

I must have missed that tackle.

Once again soooo many moves broke down via Sterling. Be it a poor cross, another misplaced pass or simply being crowded out by opposition players. Mudryk came on when Nkunku got injured and looked 50 times the player Sterling was last night. But there's no doubt Pochettino will start him in the first XI despite how limited he has looked in pre-season. And that's a real shame because, if everyone is fit, it is probably going to deny either Mudryk or Madueke a starting spot. TBH I'd even play Gusto ahead of James before I'd use Sterling.

Madueke only has one move, cut inside from the right and shoot.

Sterling was crowded out a few times, tracked back better in h2.

You did miss the tackle, it was a good effort.

Sorry Ozboy you can be a cheerleader for Sterling all you want. Fair enough, that's your opinion and we're gonna find out soon enough whether you're right or wrong. But that comment on Madueke is simply rubbish.

The one thing I would add is that there should be no excuses why Sterling should not deliver the goods right from the first game of the season. He is fit, after Silva he is the most experienced player, he has had lots of pre-season minutes under his belt, he now has players around him who can hold the ball up and play him in, and targets who he can play in.

We should be expecting a big Sterling performance against Liverpool. If he can't get up and deliver against them there isn't much hope for him.

He's going to be a player for us that's just going to be in the right place at the right time on many occasions, he's gonna miss a few but he's also going to be one of our top scorers. It's just how he is, he's always been a frustrating player to watch but his numbers back him up.

We should not sell him, we've got alot of players in our squad that are going to be going through what he went through by starting at a young age and dealing with pressure. Im excited by Mudryk but who better to learn from than someone like Sterling?

Nuh, sorry. But at least you're not on the Sterling hate train. He was fine last night. Worked hard. Let down by some ordinary passing to his flank.

Reminds me a bit of our first season under Frank, all the youngsters were the ones getting us the results, whereas it was the senior players that kept letting us down and putting in sh*t performances.

Besides Thiago Silva of course, I'm not putting that much stock into the likes of Cucurella and Sterling, they already look like weak links.

It's not just Sterling who's been coasting in pre-season. James, Chilwell, Enzo and others haven't exactly set the stars alight either.

It's common that the younger lads with more to prove and gunnig for a spot in the team/squad are going to go all guns blazing while the more senior ones who's position is more secure doesn't.

Best attacker we had last season btw. The hate is just odd.

They've not stood out but they've not been awful either, Sterling has had his moments but for the most part w**k, Cucurella, awful. Some good passing, but looks atrocious.

It's not hate, he's just a nothing player, who allegedly gets into positions (and does what) He's experienced and does what? Vastly over paid and errm ........that's it.

ps. And he minces around like an old tart.

Just a remainder he's scored more goals in this league than the likes of Drogba, Ronaldo and probably has time on his side to pass a few more big names while he's at it like Gerrard.

Stastically he's 22nd in goals and assists in premier league history at the age of 28, he's a frustrating player but he's not a nothing player.

He was terrible, alway made the wrong pass (to the opposition) never took anyone on at all and just looks completely lost for confidence and energy. He should be a sub, never a starter

I wish you and a few others would stop with the whole "hate" crap. It's laughable. You regularly criticize Fernandez does that mean you hate him?

In the EPL last season Sterling scored 6 goals and had 3 assists. Havertz scored 7 with 1 assist. Not exactly brilliant is it? Which shows that both were bang average to rubbish for most of the season, as were many others bar maybe Silva, Kante when he was fit, and Madueke when he broke into the team.

It's less than two weeks now until the start of the season. Sterling will undoubtedly be starting against Liverpool. Let's see if he delivers on the day.

Rooney, Henry, Salah, Ronaldo: 40 players with most goals and assists in Premier League since 2000 (givemesport.com)

Fantastic, he's just behind Peter Crouch. It make you wonder why Pep wasn't playing him regularly and was happy to let him leave to a Premier League rival !

Look, when Sterling was at Liverpool he was a very exciting player. Quick, direct, burnt past defenders, but IMO it is a long time since he has been that player. And that was very noticeable towards the end of his time at Citeh, hence why Pep had no real qualms about letting him leave. There's a lot of a parallels with the signing Fernando Torres here. And Torres was only 26 when he joined us.

If you go up a hill Sheva and half-way down the other side, where would you be? That's right........ over the hill.

Apologises for using the word hate in another thread, I didn't mean it like that and I guess I just used it as a figure or speech. I don't expect anyone to actually hate one of our players, it's more of a dissatisfaction towards performances.

He's a frustrating player and I can agree with that 100% but I think he's someone we need to ease the pressure off all these young players we are buying. We write senior players off here too easily because we have been burned in the past most likely. I don't think you become a bad player overnight and a lot of it is due to the how the club was run last season. Arsenal signing Havertz, City signing a 29 year old Kova pretty much tells you that they think it was fundamentally a club problem rather than a player problem.

Everyone should have a clean slate because as a whole I think last season was a write off. I don't expect him to be a catalyst like Hazard but I expect him to be in the goals and he will do what the manager needs of him which is probably why he gets picked most of them time. We should know by now that managers pick more experienced players over younger ones because as exciting as players like Mudryk and Noni will be. There's more of a chance in a big game they will lose their man and that comes with experience. The club and manager have expectations to challenge for trophies and you need players like Sterling who've been there and done that to relieve expectations on someone like Mudryk who hasen't had a full season in top flight european football. Personally I'd be happy with a top 6 finish and solid signs of progress but Pochettino won't be happy with that.

Let's judge him end of next season and if he's poor then I am all for selling him. I do agree he's coming to the end of his prime due to him starting really early on in his career but I don't think he's finished and It would not surprise me if he turns out to be our top scorer.

Also I meant he's 22nd on the all time scorer list and 22nd on the all time assists list. Not combined, sorry for the confusion. I don't think you get there by being a nothing player. A prime Peter Crouch would get in our team now by the way, I know it sounds laughable and I think Jackson looks very good in pre-season but we need to lower our expectations a bit because pre-season is a totally different story to the league.

Have to say his football live in person is even worse. Some of his decision making was so indecisive and the complete opposite of fundamental. 90% of the time he brings the ball back into danger which looked to annoy Jackson and Enzo.

There was a moment where he was in space in the third and I thought to myself "I bet he ignores' James' overlap and tries crossing it with no one in the box", and he did just that, with the cross not even beating the first man.

He is the only one that is still suffering from the Tuchel/Potter/Lampard tunnel vision syndrome.

He is fit

I realise I am clinging to what will probably be forlorn hope but it is generally accepted now that the fitness levels of our entire squad were not up to standard last season. It looks as if Pochettino is addressing that now and there is a slim chance we might get performances from the mincemeister this season. Like you I think he will start the season in the team.

Apparently Steven Gerrards new Saudi side want MO Salah as their star signing. However that deal is seen as difficult as he is Liverpools start player, and still top class.

The second choice is Raheem Sterling. Reports from Saudi Media.

Surely too good to be true !

Linked up well with Reece first half, that's the only positive.

I'm not a fan of the current Raheem Sterling, but thought he did well very first half but was not on it so much second half. Still saw my prime worry with him on numerous occasions. He is now nearly completely incapable of taking an opponent on and going past him, like he did for fun in his prime. In fact he very, very rarely tries it. He  either cuts back or passes the ball on.

But today, overall, he had a good day I thought.
