Do we really want a play that behaves like that? What's to stop him doing it in a few years, when Barcelona or Real come calling?

Is not ideal no. I don't get skipping training but not submitting a transfer request.

What normally happens with us is just a John Stones situation or Kounde, we go with the high bids and fail then another club sweeps him away for less later on.

Chelsea have ended their interest in Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, reports The Sun.

The Blues have reportedly pulled the plug on a move after a third bid for the French centre-back was rejected by the Foxes."

So Adam Webster the next up is it?

They were literally shooting down bids within seconds with no dialogue. we prob thought we wont be mugged off here. £70m was a fair price. What are they going to do now with an unhappy player training with the reserves.

Same tactic got them 85mill for Harry from American owners. Maybe they figure same thing will happen here?

Apparently we pulled the plug on this deal as the past week the intermediaries we have been dealing with assured Todd that the offer we made, meeting half way between Leicester value and our last bid, would be accepted.

The fact it was not only not accepted but also rejected in minutes without a counter offer has meant we have moved on to try and make sure we get a CB before the window closes as Todd is said to have lost faith in these intermediaries.

Makes sense. Assuming Fofana is now going to be unsettled at Leicester there is a good chance they will want to offload him in the next couple of windows. Maybe we will go back in for him then.

Let's start making paltry bids for all their players to unsettle their whole team until they give in

Yeah no, would not want us to act with such little class. He is their player, he signed a 5 year deal with no release clause. No kne held a gun to his head. They are entitled to accept or reject whatever offers they want.

If this is real, have to laugh at this. We couldn't do a deal even without interference from Barca and Bayern. We knew it from the start he had no get out clause, so why kept pursuing it for weeks  then drop it with 10-15M to match their ridiculous price tag? So who else are available, Smalling and Phil Jones?🤐

If Kante was so good, when did he end up at Leicester. You being the only one making a bid, doesn’t mean others don’t recognise his talent. 

Did you actually bother to watch him for us? We finished 5th, with a makeshift back line because of injuries and Fofana came straight in and from game 1 held the defense together singlehanded.

He came back from injury last season and started doing the same, despite being out for so long. This isn’t some lad who hasn’t played.

£70m is a fair price for who? You or Leicester. Because it’s not a fair price for us this late on the window and certainly not when £10m worth isn’t going to be achieved. 

 

We paid £35m

- 20% of profit to St Etienne 

- “Loyalty Bonus”

= about £15m profit on player

If we go and try get a replacement, we’ll have to pay through the nose now. So I doubt we’d even have enough money to get a replacement CB and a decent winger with so little time left.

The 20% of profit to St Etienne is none of our concern and we shouldn't have to factor that into any of our bids.  It was Leicester who agreed to that.  70m is more than fair for a 21 year old defender.  Absolutely no more than 75.  He is a good player but no way is he worth a record transfer fee for a defender at age 21.  He has potential to be a star, but that's all it is at the moment.  I'd have liked him here but if Leicester are going to be unnecessarily stubborn then I'm glad we've walked. 

Sounds like this one is over. The club will need to move fast to get some one else in - which usually means a panic buy for an average defender. 

Now we can finally focus on our real transfer target that we almost had at some point, Tomori!

Leicester is currently in the relegation zone and could get relegated. Holding on to unhappy players who don't want to play for your club doesn't help you. Is it worth holding out for £10m more and getting relegated or selling at a good price to get players who want to play for your club? It's a calculated risk. Fofana knows if hes still at LFC and plays his best football he still wouldn't get to play at WC. Playing for Chelsea helps him a lot so why would he care about staying on and playing poorly.  A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Still seems like we are going in for another round of talks. Rodgers said something last night like "He wants to leave and when the clubs agree a fee he can go". Sounds like they don't think Chelsea have walked away and are expecting another bid.

My gut instinct is telling me we will go in with another bid and hopefully the 4th bid is accepted. I also think we may not see any more movement on it until Thursday/ Friday purely because we are playing eachother at the weekend. As it stands I don't think Fofana will play for them on Saturday whilst he is training with the U23s, and I also think if Leicester do accept a bid that they don't want him to play against them on Saturday, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is concluded one way or another by early next week.

It is still only The Sun reporting that we have walked away. Other credible journalists seem to be saying we will be trying again.

@foxedup - Side note, I saw lots of noise on twitter last night that your fans want Rodgers to leave? Is that the general feeling or just the minority on twitter? Overall I think he has done a really decent job for you guys so was kind of surprised people wanted him out.
