It seems to me, as a financial expert, that we start our negotiations too high.

First bid for Fofana 60m, so they're obviously going to want at least 80m. If we'd started at 40m, maybe they would have said we want 60m. Same with Cucarella. Went in way too high, so when they asked for even more, we had to go crazy.

Possibly, but they may say 'Well we sold Maguire for £80m and he's dogsh*t, so Fofana is worth at least the same!' lol

Good point Zeta. I never thought about that. But it makes sense. Where you make your initial offer is obviously bound to influence counter-offers from the other side.

I have my doubts on that. Leicester seem to be set on holding out for a record fee.

Well one week to find out. Always thought no deal would be done for the weekend and Fofana would not play for either team.

Not necessarily a record, I think everyone wants it over. The club are convinced this lad was going to be worth £100m+ after this season and this they are massively reluctant to let go for anything not close to the Maguire fee, who played like a chump compared to this lad.

Chelsea didn't buy Maguire so we have nothing to do with that fee. We bought Kante for around 35m so let's compare it with where we actually did business with Leicester.

Kante had a buyout clause otherwise you’d have to have paid £60m+. We have something to do with the Maguire fee, and that’s set a bench mark. Pay up, or piss off.

And we paid the buyout clause.Maybe if Man United was trying to sign Fofana you could say the same... Otherwise what another club paid for another player that has nothing to do with us. Apples and oranges.

what are you on about 🤣

Problem is compared to your City, Newcastle, City & even Liverpool who have paid big fees this summer we are poor.

How so? Pretty sure Todd is being backed by a billion dollar investment company. Like most investment companies they will expect a return but that doesn't mean they won't invest. City and Newcastle are definitely richer than us but I doubt Liverpool can compete with us financially.

He's been dropped for the weekend, I think this deal is dead in the water.

When we went in for Chilly they wanted 80 mill initially, CFC got him for 55

Only downside is now there's the possibility of a panic bid for slabhead

@foxedup reckon you guys can reject that offer faster than the last 3 bids?

Have seen it speculated you increased the price to 100mill straight cash today.

Can we reject it, yes very easily.

If the add ons are easily achievable or it’s mostly up front then you might stand a chance to get it accepted and we get rid of the poisonous player.

The second point, total nonsense.

A warning though, when he comes in and plays well and another team wants him, like Madrid or Barca, or you aren’t doing well, maybe some others… he will do the same to you.

Ever the optimist you 😂

I don’t think there’s much chance they all of a sudden increase it to £100m after £80m being the reported asking price all this time. Given how “unhappy” the player is it doesn’t make any sense to drag it out further!

Maybe not. Being a Chelsea fan from childhood coming to CFC is an opportunity he doesn't want to miss. Not all players want to play in Spain especially the English and French ones.

If you believe that you’ll believe anything.

What that he was a Chelsea fan from childhood? I don't see why not, there is a pic of him in a Chelsea shirt, although loyalties/clubs change as you get older, especially as a professional player. That being said, he would be equally desperate to join any club with Champions league football given the chance.

You may have noticed earlier @dansubrosa was quite concerned at my optimistic opinion on our CL draw. I don't want to cause a panic 😉

@foxedup said himself the later we leave it the more they will want. Never know, he has 5 years left on his deal and they may want to make a point about it.

Ah thar was not the question. It was will you reject it even faster than you rejected the first 3 bids. Those were lightening fast replies.

Would not be the first time. Happened with Robben. There is a football food chain, we all know that and some of us don't have such tinted glasses as to not see Bayern, Barca and Real are the top 3 in rhe food chain.
