Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

I like Potter but him coming in now is setting him up for failure imo.

We are not making the top 4 with him, and then he gets sacked most likely.

I dont think top 4 will be a pre requisite. In all honesty i think we should just get an interim coach and try to fix the club upstairs. We should have a technical director before a coach and not the other way around

Watching the odd BHA game on Sky, they are a good watch.  Their problem was similar to ours before it went to s*** in that they don't finish chances.  Unlike us, they create a ton of chances playing a system similar to us but with a more direct style (no Jorginho type at BHA).  Put it this way, if BHA are playing one of our direct rivals for top 4 etc, I think they have a good chance at winning.  Plus his record in Sweden was like getting the equivalent of Bury 5th in the Prem from the lower leagues, winning the FA Cup and qualifying for Europe.

Potter would be my choice.  No flash in the pan with BHA.  Would be refreshing to go another route for once....

32% win rate. Where does this talented come from. I just dont get it. Feels like we are clutching at straws. IF its true its nothing but a Yes man appointment by the owners. Its a f**king joke.

Yeah, 32% win rate - appalling. How he hasn't taken Brighton to a league title with that squad is mind boggling.

Sans crystal ball I have not the foggiest which manager would produce a haul of trophies for us, but I am sure that Pep aside (maybe Zidane), all managers have started somewhere where their record wasn't a 90% win rate. Howe seems to be doing a decent job at Newcastle. I'm not sure we can dismiss managers just because they are English. We've spent the last few weeks championing players that are already used to the league, but we think a manager must not have experience of our league, and instead must have been brilliant somewhere in Europe.

And a lot of people on here were more than happy to risk finishing seventh or lower this season to give Tuchel time to sort things out (which he was definitely not doing) and yet Potter will apparently need to go on massive unbeaten run straight away and guarantee a top four finish.

I don't think any further words are necessary !

dkw probably salivating at that home form LOL

SF post up the different formations Potterlegri has used this season. Might show he is not a tactical one trick pony.

BHA are one team I enjoy watching. Always play attractive football. And him and his scouting team know how to spot talent.

He's the EPL equivalent of Sarri at Napoli but with a better personality and more fashion sense.

One other thing on Poch, who I'm not against by the way.  In my eyes, Potter is no different to when Poch was at Southampton.  Spurs took a punt on him and Poch got his decent reputation from that.  Maybe Potter can do the same??? Point is a lot of the no for Potter I would assume would have said no to Poch when he was at Southampton.......

Well Pep took over Barcelona after coaching the B team. Difference is, he had prime Messi, Xavi, Iniesta etc.

I put that on another thread somewhere.

Here it is again :

2 up top for home games (and Fulham away) which is probably good news for Broja and Aubameyang.

Hmmm… Not sure what to think of this.
With Brighton you mostly play against open teams that try to play offensive football.
With Chelsea you play against double walls most of the time.
Knowing how little Brighton scores… off course also with less quality in the team.
He still has everything to prove in those circumstances. I am a bit sceptical.

Would be a great appointment. Despite what some think, playing 5 at the back doesn't always equal negative football and Potter has shown that in his time at Brighton, they play great football with players who aren't exactly that great, our squad is much better and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with it.

Of course it's a risk because it's a big step up for him but there isn't exactly a standout candidate available. Poch? Not a bad manager but ex Spurs and didn't exactly set the world on fire with probably the best squad in the world at PSG. Zidane? Only managed Madrid and is probably after the France job.

Say what you will about Poch he had a average spurs team playing good football and coming far too close for comfort to the league.

My worry is that he is not ready for this level, he has not managed top players before. Pochettino should be the main target right now for pure performance. But maybe Potter is seen as a better fit for a long term vision in terms of building a new club culture? I can see Poch winning a couple trophies then being sacked 1 or 2 seasons later as usual.

All you can do smiley is get behind the new manager for 18 months until the next one comes along.

I do that every time this just feels different. Feels like a step back to go further steps back. I have always been able to rationalise previous managerial sackings to some extent. This one just has me seething.

It is a very big risk. Teams are playing more attacking against Brighton than the play against Chelsea. So in theory it is easier to score against them. But you are right. There should be a big difference in quality. It just is no guarantee that the outcome from Brighton with the same approach will also have a better result with Chelsea

Exactly the same here.

I also have the feeling that any new coach will be a downgrade.

Even more of a shame now that we didn't nab Bissouma from Tottenham.

I hope if we do sign him (Potter), it's before our next game, i can't wait to see what team he would pick, it'll be interesting to see, almost like he's marking Tuchels homework with corrections.
