Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

It's ultimately down to Enzo to mend the relationship with the Chelsea players and those offended, which I pray he does. The AFA may perceive it as banter given their cultural history but this isn't something that is socially accepted at all outside of South America. Enzo's complete lack of awareness and ignorance in posting such a video bewilders me considering the amount of French footballers we have at the club.

Initially, before the World Cup Mbappe made a comment that European football is far superior to South American football, which the Argentines took offence and created a chant which essentially translates you French aren't really European and are from Africa. This derogatory xenophobic insult is common in Argentina and they even insult other Argentines for their ancestry.

Apparently the club are now investigating the clip.

Really embarrassing on his end especially since he has french teammates with african ancestry

Fofana doubling down on this now suggest to me that Enzo's failed to even apologize yet to his teammates and if thats the case that's disgraceful as well.

Reckon he should be sold regardless of the outcome of this. Not only have I never bought into the hype around him but i've had questionmarks over his character as well for a long time and now he's fully exposed himself.

Struggling to see a way back here.

And frankly, if as much as one of our French players (or any of our team for that matter) can't forgive this then they have my backing.

I'm surprised Clealake hasn't started giving the players media training considering the inspiration from American sports on many aspects of the club. This isn't the first time someone on our team has done something ignorant in the last couple of years. Mudryk's fat shaming gym video comes to mind.

I honestly don't know what happens now.

He surely has to come back and face the music, and I'm talking like tomorow. Even if he isn't officially training he has to face up to the situation and the guys he's upset.

Him pissing off for 3 weeks and letting this linger will only make things worse, plus unless he's completely without conscience and doesn't care he wouldn't be able to enjoy his holiday with this hanging over his head anyway.

It's a nightmare for the club. Not only he represents a 100m investment, he's also on a long term contract. How do they expect to bring him back into the squad, I've no idea but the atmosphere will be tense and toxic, because the players he offended likely won't forget and won't forgive, and I don't blame them.

I don't see any way forward from now except for him to be shipped out. How to do it and who's out there willing to spend any serious money on him is another matter, especially since everyone will know our situation.

Enzo just shared a video, to his personal Instagram, of his team mates singing a somewhat racist and homophobic chant about France (wtf) and Mbappe's transgender former partner.

A first big test of character for the new ownership. I sincerely hope he gets sacked. He deserves to be nowhere near this club or English football.

Sacked is strong. And financially thick.

Id suspend him for 3 months. And the squad+Enzo can decide if he comes back.

Is this his reaction to the club not allowing him to go to the Olympics, revenge if you will. Or maybe he just doesn't care, or this is part of being Argentinan and they are proud of it?

No idea myself.

What I can confidently say is Clearlake won't let an asset like him go to waste. Much easier to make money on selling Gusto, Nkunku and Badiashile.

Maybe break even on Disasi and a loss on Fofana perhaps?

Nkunku now the latest player to unfollow him. All the French players have now unfollowed him.

Am guessing this is a big deal. As someone not on social media cannot say if it is or not

Even if Clearlake are all about saving their prized assets and are so cynical they don't care how it comes across to the outside world, the last thing they want is a PR nightmare that will destroy any chances of the club to do well on and off the pitch. What kind of message does it send to the public if you sell all the black French players to accommodate Enzo so that he could get away with his racist behaviour? Obviously it's not going to happen, nor should it.

That will go just swell with all our other investors/assets and our nice little club in Strasbourg though... hardly think they can do that and not face major consequences going forward. Do that and I can see French players just straight out refusing to sign for Chelsea, regardless of wages and everything else.

Sometimes I do believe you'd make a hell of a pundit with some of your takes, ax 😅

Highly doubt they will side with Enzo on an issue as big as just just because of his price tag. You sign with a player that makes a racist chant and choose to sell your black players, you will end up losing investors and sponsorships and will end up losing more long term than Enzo's price.

I wouldn't go that far, it's easy to get carried away during celebrations. An apology is all that is needed.

It's actually not that hard to avoid being a racist and homophobe, even when drunk.

Financial consequences are not a concern. It's about the club having a moral backbone at time where racism and homophobia are increasingly rampant. We need to avoid another Paul Canoville situation where we apologise and hand-wring decades later.

The club has an awful history of racism, yes, but this club also has a proud recent history of being an inclusive, cosmopolitan team who have embraced many heritages and cultures since the 1990s. The club's stance today will determine what French and African people will think of the owners and club decades from now.

Besides, it's a clear breach of contract and should Enzo not go quietly, the precedent set by Mutu's case a decade ago puts him at risk of legal action.
