Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

Second season with us and we still don't know what's the best role for him in the team...

Seeing him being captain is also a strange thing.

It's pretty obvious what the best role for him is, Potter figured it out in minutes. Problem is Lavia at the moment is too good to drop and without a Connor its pretty hard to play him in any 3 man midfield combination.

Agreed. Right now Lavia is first name on the team sheet.

If Enzo does play in the midfield 2 than it has to be a system where a fullback inverts. Right now its about finding balance.

If we do go back to our inverting fullbacks then that suits having Enzo as the 6 far more but yeah, pretty harsh to drop Lavia.

It would just be Lavia/Caicedo + Gusto/Cucurella at the base with Enzo in a free role.

The problem is how much we paid for these blokes.  How can you spend 100 million quid plus for a player and live him on the bench?  We only paid 50 million quid for Lavia and so. . .Lavia is in the best form. Lavia and Caicedo is the way to go with the two right now. But Enzo is the Chelsea Captain and so choose who you want to drop - it is either Caicedo or Lavia on the bench. It was so much easier when everybody was injured.

Nowhere near as bad as what people made out yesterday. Some really good passes, some poor actions in the final 3rd. Easily the best passing range of the midfielders. Everyone knows we over paid for him, this isn't news, we knew it at the time, same as Caicedo and Fofana.

Needs to play deeper, and I still think he will go on to be one of the best midfielders in the world. Might take him until he is 25/26 but then that's the whole reason we paid so much and put him on a 9 year contract.

We all watched the match, you can't gaslight me with a selective fugazi highlight real with several replays of the same action to bulk out the time stamp of the video. He was absolutely crap.

Having said that, he does have by far the best long range passing range. Which makes it even more confusing that the third manager in a row is trying to play him as a 10. Is he saying he wants to play there? Is he showing something there is training he doesn't do on match days? Do managers consider him that much of a defensive liability they won't play him there? Is it that Lavia and Caicedo are both better but Todd can't bare to see his £100m man on the bench?

Who knows, but yesterday he was crap, lets hope for better days ahead.

There needs to be balance and I think Maresca is still trying to figure that out.

If we are playing with a wide full back, the midfield base needs to be Caicedo+Lavia as they offer the most protection. Having Enzo shoehorned as a 10 just doesn't work and I don't know how many more managers we need to f**king realize this. Palmer or Nkunku should've played there with Madueke at the wing.

In matches where Enzo is playing, he should only be in the midfield base with an inverted fullback that offers protection whilst the players get organized in defensive transition. This allows Enzo in a free, orchestrating role.

Enzo signing was Eghbali's pet negotiating project rather than Todd's if I remember rightly ... ?

We literally need to set the lineup by putting Palmer into position first and working from there.  If that means Enzo is on the bench so be it, captain or not.

Not crap, not good either, but he shouldn't be playing at No.10.

I don't think palmer should be central, he's played there for us and England and been ineffectual and easily marked out the game.

Being on the right gives him more freedom to go deep, cut in, hunt for the ball without needing to stay central.as a point of attack.

Nkunuku looks much more suited to that role.

Not sure what you mean by free role but enzo needs to be deepest and the inverting fullback freedom to get forward, similar to how arsenal had Zinchenko and Jorginho.

It's near impossible to drop 100M+ player, especially the ones the owners signed as a 'statement'. Come this weekend I don't see the needs to play the same midfield, doubt the manager will play Levia when the other 100M+ players are available. I don't like the idea of Enzo being captain, but looking at the team yesterday, didn't see a clear better option out there 🤔

100%, a 2 minute video isn't dictating the 90 minutes I watched yesterday, I'm a big Enzo fan but he had an absolute stinker. But what I will say is that the sooner he's away from that 10 position the better, it completely negates what he's good at.

Yah he just like Kovacic in front of goal... 😁 ... misses 99% of the time

It is not confusing. Enzo is horrible defensively.

Basically one of the attacking #8's. I wouldn't have him as the last midfielder back.

Lavia/Caicedo and Cucurella/Gusto in the base. Nkunku, Felix, or KDH as the attacking mid. This still allows Enzo the ability to drop deep/work through the channels and orchestrate play.

Lavia Cucurella

Palmer Nkunku Enzo Neto

When they finally fire maresca and hire cesc, he will finally be able to unlock the Fabregas jr. in Enzo… 😂

What is he good at?

The biggest problem with our midfield is how to fit in Caicedo and Enzo in the same trio. You can't give Enzo a pressing role or a breaking role. He needs to be the Pirlo of the trio. I think the best scenario is Enzo sits deep at 6 as the sheriff and his deputies at 8 do most of the legwork in terms of pressing and breaking. Caicedo is the most versatile of the trio. He can basically be even 10 as he's been for Equador.

I love Enzo and his style. I also saw straight away when he came to Chelsea that he is a leader. I think he is better suited captain than Reece.

I don't believe that would work to be honest with you. I would sooner have Caicedo as an attacking 8 over Enzo.

If we do go back to inverted fullbacks then I think we can get away with the 6 not being an elite defender as the whole point is to maintain control of the game so that's where I would keep Enzo. Problem then is you have to drop Lavia.

Enzo for me is a luxury player who doesn't really fit in a PL midfield, a bit like Veron was ...

The fact he is poor defensively, and doesn't offer much in attack, just leaves you with a bit of nice passing, and I'm not sure that's enough,

Or just play 343
