He simply hasn't had time to put together a body of work as a Chelsea player to rival previous January signings like Branislav Ivanovic, Nicolas Anelka, David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Nemanja Matic, and Olivier Giroud ... His potential is huge, but then we also signed de Bruyne and Salah in the January windows LOL. What might have been ... 🙂
March 20, 20233 yr I expected enzo to struggle early but I have been proven wrong. He has been very good on the get go. But his skill set does not surprise me at all. Short pass, long pass, inside foot pass, bring the ball up when there is space. When you are being labelled as a passer or dpl, this is just basic stuff.

I had my "Chelsea only" hat on when I came up with a few names 🙂 If we are widening the net, then Man United's Nemanja Vidic must be in the frame, bought for £7m and helped them to 5 titles in 9 seasons. And then there was Coutinho at Liverpool as well ... £14m for five productive full seasons, followed by a 9 figure profit when he was sold to Barcelona LOL.

Wasnt Gary Cahill a January signing for us, considering his trophy haul he would be near the top of that list.

March 20, 20233 yr Even the Turbo Flop could catch this geez on the pitch. His career has been destroyed by the insane munay (feigned Barnsley accent here) thrown at him that he knows he can never live up to.
April 4, 20233 yr I'm going to sound like a broken record soon if I'm not already but we've truly hit the jackpot with this guy. Thank god we went the extra mile here and didn't bulk at the price, anyone else (we could have realistically got) aren't fit enough to clean his boots.

It's refreshing reading the first several pages of this thread. You, GOL, and I were convinced of his quality.

It's truly amazing how quiet this thread is. Even more so given what else is going on as when things are otherwise sh*t supporters tend to cling onto one of the rays of light. Could you imagine Rice's thread if he joins and starts even half as well?

Enzo and Kante are a superb combination. We just need to focus on an improvement on Kovacic now
April 5, 20233 yr He is quality, and too good a player for the position we in now. Given the CL draw he may well regret choosing to leave Benfica in January. One is for sure, a player of that quality won't stick around long if we don't sort ourselves out quickly, long contract or no long contract.

It is like we are back to reality instead of living in some mythical land.

But that's the thing, Enzo isn't really reality, he's a very rare player the type we usually simply don't get unless one comes through the academy. Even as a so called Jorginho defender I was less than 0% bothered he was making way for Enzo (I'd have been very vocal had we let him go and failed to get Enzo). This is exactly why I was saying we should go all in on this deal regardless of the price tag and his relative lack of gametime in Europe, we haven't had a CM of his combined technical/tempo dictating skillset and high level all round game be genuinely interested in a move here since Modric (despite his insane assist rate the Fabregas we had as an all rounder was a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal). He's an absolute gamechanger in the coming years exactly like Kante and Hazard were. Edited April 5, 20233 yr by Argo

You can have a debate who is bettter or in which area they are better or you can say Enzo trumps them all, it doesn't matter to me. But if you are considered to be a passer or a dpl, long ball, short ball, carrying the ball when there is space is very basic. Some player like thiago is better at dribbling, some like kroos is better at passing.

He deserves much better forwards ahead of him and I also feel he has another gear of his game to unlock if he plays further up. Really hope the next manager we pick is the right one as they will be crucial to his remaining at the club. Edited April 5, 20233 yr by Frankie8Lampard

Can you imagine a more offensive minded manager having Havertz, Felix and co waste double or triple the chances they are now. Nagelsmann will be bald in a month ro 2 lol.

For me Pogba while better than given credit for couldn't really be trusted with the defensive side of the game, likewise the version of Cesc we had. The others I agree but that's still a very exclusive and rare list that bar Modric in 2011 and maybe at a push Gundogan at some point we wouldn't have had a snowball in hells chance of attaining.

April 13, 20233 yr Author What a f**king legend. Crespo must of really sold him into coming here. Already extended! 🚨 💣 Enzo Fernández is now extended at Chelsea for one more year, taking his contract from 2031 to 2032. (@CLMerlo) pic.twitter.com/usg0fTHF7v — Pys (@CFCPys) April 13, 2023
