Mykhailo Mudryk signs for Chelsea

Featured Replies

Having said all this, I’d rather Chelsea fans argue over systems players can flourish in Vs mystical armchair stuff like players mental health, than see a prospect like Mudryk tear it up in North London and take them to another level. Least we’re muddying the waters and making it hard for rivals to upgrade with players tailor-made for them.

Mudryrk situation is just a consequence of not signing players for a system, Arsenal scouted/identified him based on how they set up. Seeing him drop deep to retrieve balls, spending the majority of his game time so far with Mount and others crowding him out on the left side / Cucurella passing back instead of forward, having to try and pull off the spectacular out of frustration. And now, it’s gone from bad to worse for him, with Potter expected to stick to the tried and tested system which makes him redundant as a wide winger. At Arsenal, it was all there for him to shine from the get go and there would be no silly Internet talk of players wellfair.

Agree, you can see how murdyk will flourish playing in that martinelli/Trossard role for Arsenal.

Honestly mental case make more sense with Cucu as he struggled big time playing as lcb early in the season although it was supposed to be his bread n butter.

Yea, the Arsenal forums certainly wouldn’t need to fall back on the “he’s only just arrived in the country” excuse, it would just click instantaneously.

He’s young and a bit naive, liking the negative post about Cucurella wasn’t smart but it’s just frustration at the setup and we’ve seen for our own eyes why Mudryrk would feel that way about the Spaniard.

I agree with murdyk that Cucu didn't support him but at the same time murdyk also didn't support cucu defensively which make it difficult for cucu to support him.

For me based on the little I have seen on him as a footballer, apart from his pace he's got a very good footballing brain.

The flicks and sexy touches all come from a young man trying to enjoy himself and maybe show off a bit. He should cut that out with maturity or know when best to execute such.

Him, Enzo and Felix are probably the 3 smartest in terms of seeing the big picture a few steps ahead, in that order. This is my opinion and of course I could be wrong but I feel once he settles into a line up with the right people around him and a string of games, he will shine.

Why are people suddenly acting like wingers can’t play in a 343? Hazard played in one for years and it was a success. Several other winger shave done the same. Switching to 343 isn’t the end of Murdyk’s career.

Even more so with the way Chilwell can play inside the pitch.

Best of Chilwell attacking wise has always been exposing the space out wide, something Mudryk loves to expose as well.

Mudryk as an inside forward with Chilwell at LWB on paper is great, but in practice not sure it will work.

It did in that great run under Tuchel until his injury and Rom's return derailed us (I know small sample size) and it's how he got his goals against Brentford and the following season West Ham.

It was actually that run where I became convinced by him properly, I was still unsure about him in an attacking sense up to that point especially as a wingback.

3-4-3 with wing-backs slotting into full-back positions and central midfielders pushing up to support attacks is one of the best qualities of the 3-4-3 formation, the options available when it comes to supporting the lone striker or false 9 are extensive. With two wingers or inside forwards staying close at all times, and central midfielders and wing-backs regularly enjoying the freedom to get forwards into attack, it's unlikely that the lone striker in a 3-4-3 will become isolated in the way that they might in other formations. We have got the players to really mix it up, just needs time for Potter to drill them, but it's coming.

For player like Hazard system is irrelevant.

The ability of James and Chilwell to operate inside as well as outside (ie. goalscoring as well as playmaking threats) was one of the things that made Tuchel's 3-4-3 work well and we've seen that with the top fullbacks in the league in general. Given that the opposition's winger is usually tasked with marking them, having you fullback push up and make runs to spring the offside trap usually means a defender is pre-occupied dealing with a defender that shouldn't, giving you a free man if the oppoising wide player doesn't also track back.

Problems occur when they get replaced by other players (eg Azpi, Cucurella) who prefer to solely operate on the outside and aren't a goalscoring threat, it becomes more predictable and you can just show them the outside to get crosses into a set defence.

Potter clearly wants someone quick on the last man. We saw Havertz dropping deeper and Sterling making the run in behind against Dortmund and was unlucky with two of the offside calls again. Mudryk did the same job at the weekend, no defender is keeping up with him. Unlucky not to get his goal but happy for his assist.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, and looking for another Eden but for me he is electric.
When he settles down and gets a few starts under his belt teams will be sh*t scared of his pace behind and they'll start to put 2 on him ala Hazard which will free up space for others.
Great hopes for this young wizard..

Mudryk on the bench, Pulisic on the pitch, tells everything about Potter's capabilities as a manager.

Mudryk is one of those players whose ability seems to improve by not playing. I've seen nothing in him to merit him being a nailed on starter however I do see little point in him getting no game time when we have invested so heavily on him and when Pulisic, as an alternative, offers so little.

He should certainly have come on for Pulisic today and surely is worth starting against Villa.

But I think that's everyones point. Besides the Liverpool cameo we've not really seen anything great from him, we've little moments from him that says "yeah maybe there is a star in there" but obviously not enough to know for sure. But again, why is that? He should have played more already, besides the CL we've got nothing to play for right now, he should be getting more game time. Instead, it's weirdly gone to Ziyech and Pulisic, two players who we should be moving on. Not to mention Havertz who has 1 good game in 4.

We’ve got Super Graham Potter, he knows exactly what we need.

Chelsea are going to finish about 10th in the league.

Could substitute for Chelsea are going to be knocked out of the Champions League.
