Mykhailo Mudryk signs for Chelsea

Featured Replies

thought he actually stepped up and performed pretty well against Brighton. The assist was a good one as well, impressed with the way he carried the ball and had the vision to make the pass.

Seems like clutching at straws here, but after his recent performances this was pretty decent I felt like

Player played in his actual position performs better, imagine my shock. Lets get players nailed down in roles and use them

Jose liked to have 2 players for each position.

We now have the reverse - 1 player who plays in 2 positions (at least!)

Dave - CB/RB

Trev - CB/RB/DM

Reece - CB/RB

Cucu - LB/LWB/CB

Puli - ATM/LW/RW/LWB

RLC - RWB/CB/CM

Mount - CM/RW/ATM

Felix - ATM/LW/FALSE 9

Kai - ATM/RW/False 9

Sterling - LW/RW/False 9/LWB

Mudryk - LW/False 9/LWB

Really - the only players who consistently play in a single position is the GKs, Enzo (arguably playing in the wrong position), Silva, K2, Baddy, Chilly, Kova

We have turned into a team of utility players - all jack of all trades, master of none.

I am very suprised how quiet this thread is after murdyk performance v brighton.

I thought we have many murdyk fans here and that was his best performance so far.

Nothing to say really. Now that Sterling is on his summer holidays, Murdryk is the best winger we have cause of the direct runs. He's always had that quality just needs confidence.

Mudryk's played about 3 minutes for us. Anyone criticizing a 22 year old boy is out of their mind.

We haven't played a system that really suits him or Madueke.

Flat 4-3-3 is something we need to try with these wingers.

Only way Mudryk plays as a touchline winger is if we bring in Enrique. His Chelsea career will be bleak under Nagelsmann, calling it now.

Wasn't he really wanting to be an Arsenal player and we just stepped in just cause Arsenal wanted him?

Todd quickly learnt the Barca card that was played against us!

When we lose again to them next month that's 2 massive favours Todd will have done Arteta 😂

We have pure wingers in our ranks: Sterling, Pulisic, Mudryk, Madueke, Hudson-Odoi. Non-pure/inverted wingers: Ziyech, Havertz, Mount.

At this moment we play our attacking game with 'fluid' players. Apparently that means everybody is very fluid when it comes to missing sitters and missing opportunities to be in the right place at the right time.

With Chilly/Cucu and James/insert a name we could try and play like Liverpool in terms of attackers and fullbacks.

If we go for Nagelsmann we are in for another 300-500m of new players OR we have the same problems we have now.

You just don't get it Evissy...These players are fluid....just like Denis Wise was.

The fluid players are here, there, and everywhere.....

Unfortunately, they move about so much that we often cannot find them, and unlike Wisey, they are never in the right place.

Agree. I am so sick of this as well. I miss the times where we had actual formations with actual positions and not this "fluid formation" crap. It has come to the point where I don`t even know what the fast majority of our players best position is. Where does Havertz, Mount, Felix and next season Nkunku play? They are all attacking midfielders/ second strikers but do we even play a formation that has second strikers and attacking midfielders? Then we have "wingers" that can`t get past their man and offer no goals/assists either. Mainly talking about Pulisic and Ziyech here. Mudryk was good against Brighton and I can see the potential with him. Noni didn`t get enough playing time and now seems to have disappeared alongside DD Fofana.

Not even mentioning the fact that we still don`t have a serviceable striker.

Same goes for Kovacic, Enzo, RLC, Zakaria and Kante.  They are considered "defensive midfielders" except they would all benefit from having a proper defensive midfielder next to them but we don`t have one. Everyone wants to run forward without actually scoring goals or providing assists on a regular basis (Enzo did ok assist-wise to be fair but he is not playing as well as he was with Argentina, much more restricted). The midfield is a trainwreck despite signing Enzo. Somehow our midfielders manage to offer close to zero scoring threat while also not being disciplined defensively. How do I miss the times of having Mikel/Maka behind Lampard and Essien/Gudjohnson/Ballack/Ramires etc. Players that produced goals and assists while there was also a clear defensive midfielder holding the defence together and providing cover. I agree that Kante and Enzo are worldclass but the rest can f*** off. Whatever we have been trying to do in midfield since winning the CL is not working.

The squad is a f**king mess. I am sick of it.

Look at this line-up and tell me these players didn`t have proper roles in the team.

---------------------Cech-----------------------

--PF--------Carvalho/Gallas----Terry--------Bridge

----------------------Maka-----------------------

---------------Lampard---------------------------

-----------------------Gudjohnson----------------

------Duff-----------Drogba-------------Robben-

Having two players for one position sounds great in theory but in reality it's not really sustainable.

Eventually players want more than what they're getting. We lost Tiago, Gudjohnsen, Johnson, Duff, Bridge, Crespo to name a few because they wanted more game time than we could offer. City lost Cancelo and there's even rumblings Alvarez is considering moving on already.

Players who can play in multiple positions give you the best of both worlds, take Anelka for example, played on the right but also gave us quality cover for Drogba up top when we needed it.

So what is the best and perfect system?

I remember last year people that city was showing us that playing with a 9 is old school football. False 9 tippy tappy slow small ball is the best way to play football.

Some people even said Haaland made city worse, now city is winning again while playing with a big 9 who want to run behind who touch the ball 5 times a game plus 5 big cb, is playing a big 9 the new trend?

Should be first name on the team sheet to get as many minutes in possible between now and next season, ready for the next manager.

His pace in behind is genuinely terrifying, Enzo should have a field day with his progressive passes finding him. Mount needs to start over Felix too.

I have no idea. However we should play to the strengths of the players we have bought with big money.

Liverpool's very basic 4-3-3 for me looks to fit the midfield and attack the best but we have shown to be very error-prone in defending with 4.

If we gave 4-3-3 some time with this squad it could pay off. When Potter tried to do so we had about 15 players injured.

Tuchel once said the formation itself is irrelevant but he is the advocate of the fluid football where people change positions inside a match with fluidity.

Personally I am willing to see us play with some rigidity so our players learn even one way of playing that is working.

  • 2 weeks later...

Trying to think of some positivies.

I think we have a player in him and in the long term with the right manager he'll be one of the best in the league. The way he runs at players and how he tries to be direct with his passing. He will frighten defenders when he's confident, it's hard to judge a player in this mess but he has his moments which make you see there's something there for sure.

A more competent manager will get more out of him. I feel for him as well, seems to be everytime he has a good game or cameo, he's benched the next game for no apparent reasons. Wrong time at the wrong place for him, but at least he showed he's there to make effort and impact, can't say the same about few others.
