We will never get anywhere with Potter as manager. It won't change. This pathetic finishing will continue because he doesn't coach shooting or finishing. It's all about passing with him. As I have said watching +2 seasons of turgid football at Brighton was enough to convince me of this guy 's limitations. OK Aubameyang has pissed off a lot of us but to leave him out of the CL squad was ludicrous. If we are knocked out, he should be sacked!

Same old sh*t, could have been playing all night and not put the ball in the back of the net. 2 wins in 14 is relegation standard form. Not good enough.

Leaving Fofana out of the CL squad list was a mistake imo, Auba not good enough, Broja injured, Sterling injured, that leaves only Fofana as true striker.

You would be surprised what finishing work and pattern is done I training. Its nothing new. We had to get Drogba back one year to try to help players to score.

I also think that we shouldn't gettol carried away about our dominance. Yes I thought we played with much more intent but Dortmund are a classic counter attacking side, its part of their model. I didn't think there was a huge amount of variety in our final third patterns but we did get into position through sheer weight of numbers, so I will concede that. They are even picking this up on television.  This Inability to score is very deep rooted.

Goal conceded was on Potter you can't leave 1 midfielder back for that corner against one of the fastest  counter attacking teams in the competition he should have been screaming on the touchline to have us set up properly. Enzo was also the wrong player to have in that position he should have been further up breaking up any counter attacks

Can you imagine the vitriol on here if Potter had decided to pick Auba in the Champions League squad instead of Mudryk? Fofana was an option but again I don't think many on here would have opted for him over Mudryk. We only had the option to add 3 of the new players. Enzo was an obvious choice given our midfield injuries. Also Felix given he is on an expensive half season loan. So really the choice was 1 out of Mudryk, Fofana, Madueke, or Auba.

Tbh I don't actually think Auba was lacking that much in effort, that or seeing Lukaku dropped my standards a bit, for example I remember City just after he come he chased a few lost causes down and remember specifically praising such effort. I think his problem simply is he's a fundamentally sh*t footballer in the present day.

Such a shame we didn't get him in 2017 instead, he would have absolutely smashed it for us then.

Dortmund were fouling our front line all the time to stop the chances...

 

I only saw the 2nd half - they were a bit lucky but very well taken goal.

They parked the bus and we should have found a way through.

Mudryk and Felix both looked a bit meek - shame we don't have Drogba knocking it down for Frank anymore.

Must win 2nd leg.

Mudryk was man marking Adeyemi there but was caught looking at the ball all the time and left Adeyemi out of his sight. School boy error really... You never lose your man at this level, especially when the counter is on...

Mudryk is super talented, all tricks and skills, but tactically he is a mess to be honest.

Cant pick out individuals for criticism, we created loads of chances, just let ourselves with finishing. 

Most promising performance since Milan, and I'm by no means Potter in at this point.

I think Kepa reacted too slowly, Enzo was keeping Adeyemi with no other alternative but to push the ball forward. The same moment Adeyemi decided to shift gears Kepa should've made the run for the ball to stop it, instead he hesitated enough to give Adeyemi the extra second he needed to dodge him and score.

No he isn't but he had to be dropped from the squad to make way for the new players. Like I said it was realistically a choice between 1 of Mudryk, Fofana, Madueke out of the new players, or keep Auba. At this point it seems unclear as to why we signed Auba, but it is very clear that the club wants to get rid of him. Hardly a great case for including him in any matchday squad.

I just want to qualify my comments tonight. I am frustrated by our Inability to score goal, I am unimpressed with Mudryk tonight as I hate silly little flicks that don't work instead of substance, and the players not Potteris at fault for leaving Enzo 1 v1 with their fastest player from a corner.

But this was a world away from the insipid gutless bollox we have been served up recently.  I might not think Potter is the long term answer but I think the majority of these players could be.

Yes I am frustrated but at least I was entertained tonight.

Auba looked ok in Potter's first few games, but he has been awful since the World Cup break.

Not sure I agree that Enzo shouldn't have been the last man. If we were defending a lead I would agree but at that stage of the game, we were putting pressure on Dortmund. In a completely different scenario, Enzo being there could have been the key to us scoring with a long ball after the run of play from the corner. I think this was just a case of us being unlucky.

Disagree with that. He's the coach, if the players aren't positioned correctly to defend the counter attack, then he needs to be screaming at somebody to get back. He had time, he was right in line with it.
