what about a young, hungry and (as he proved at Bolton and under AVB) clearly ready Sturridge

That's fair, I was desperate for Sturridge to break into the side, one of the few things I give AVB credit for was putting some trust in him.

My armchair impression is that he is unlikely going to be detrimental to a young side's development (especially without too many more senior options to select anyway), but what do I know.

He wouldn't be my first choice anyway, but I certainly wouldn't be upset if he got the job

The more I've given it some thought and learned more about Luis Enrique's coaching style/tactics/history, I think he would be the best manager for what we are looking to achieve. He's gone head to head with good managers and outdone them tactically. He also took the Barca B team (which Pep coached) and even did better than Pep. If we look at Pep and the Spanish managers that have come up (Xavi, Arteta, Pep, Emery, Lopetegui etc) it seems as though Spanish managers have something about them tactically. Looking at what Enrique did with that Barcelona team, regardless of the players he had at his disposal, it's very impressive to win the treble. Only managers to have won the treble were Pep, Ferguson, Mourinho, Heynicks, Enrique, Flick.

Just a little reminder to anyone who thinks it's a good idea to bring back Mourinho.

He's also back down to 5th now after losing to the bottom team, would be 6th but for Juve's punishment.

Yeah, I love the guy but his tactics aren't anywhere near as good as they used to be. He hasn't overachieved anywhere since he won the title with us in 2015

Jose is not the answer, and he won't settle for a short term contract either, so interim out of the either. Enrique carries good weight, but not sure his style of football suits the league, unless we spend another 300-400M to get the spanish or South American players for his style.

Surely there cannot be anyone other than Sean Dyche?

Proven EPL. Turning Everton around. A hard man. Won't stand for any gloves on, Alice band wearing, tattooed tarts with Pink boots. Bring on the Dyche Master. All Europe will fear him. Could beat up Tuchel, Sarri and Mourinho with a blind fold on.

To be fair at least we'd show some guts under him

Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri has just masterminded a win against the best team in European football to put Lazio 2nd.

Seriously underrated manager, compare how the media treated him when he had us top 4 to how they treat Potter dragging us into mid table

The worst tactician we have ever had as a a manger..

1. Wants to play out from the back and hence tries to stretch the field but relies on a deep lying playmaker instead of FBs advancing play.. this invariably increases the gap between our atttack and mid field and all channels get cut by the opposition

2. Wants to press but back line is too deep making us easy to play through..also we never seem to be able to counter attack..

there are numerous reasons why potter ball doesn’t work.. just listed two of them

I wouldn't want Mourinho back. He had his time with us and we need to move forward past that style of play now. We need a progressive style of play that will suit the players we are looking at signing.

I mean Liverpool beat them too. Napoli aren't invincible, neither are Arsenal. They are in great form, but the other italian giants are suffering for good form this season so Napoli are able to capitalise. Sarri is a good coach, but these results can and do happen.

Juventus were on top form, 7 game streak beating Inter, Arsenal and Lazio until they faced Napoli and got demolished 5-1, this was before their slump and points deduction. Napoli are passing the eye test and playing the best football in Europe, their upswing in fortunes is nothing to do with other teams. Even if Milan, Inter etc were performing at a higher level, they’d still be head & shoulders above everyone; they are just that good.

When did Juventus play Arsenal? I must have missed that one.

It was a December friendly but Arsenal turned up with more or less their first team and took it seriously. Juventus were generally in a very good place around that time, the Inter & Lazio wins were a big deal and it seemed like they were going in the right direction, at least ‘domestically’ anyway.

Napoli would be performing at this level in any league, will be interesting to see how far they get in the UCL.

He's the only manager that doesn't really come across as someone that has a vision or an idea of how his team should play. Conte, Sarri, Lamapard and Tuchel had a vision and they all had a plan, Potter simply doesn't.

I'm not sure the New Zealand mentality guy was hired for the players. I think he was hired for Potter ... to try and get him into thinking like the manager of an elite team, rather than a mid-table plodder ... he needs to be telling his team they are the best and cannot be beaten, not all this cuckold deferential "respect" for the opposition and how good they are ...

Are you sure both James & Chiwell have the legs to progress the ball upfield? There was a sequence early in the Spurs game when Kepa tried getting both fullbacks to start moving the ball upfield but once they saw an opposition player coming towards them, they kept on passing it back to the CB, who then passed it back to Kepa. It was barmy, and felt like we were time wasting 20mins into the game.

We have always been blessed in the past by marauding fullbacks in Cole, Ivanovic, even Ferreira was no slouch. I just don’t see it with James & Chiwell. Maybe it’s wear and tear from the first season under Tuchel, or the subsequent injuries in the 2nd season. They both look like they have got rocks in their boots. Sure Chiwell looked like a different player as a WB where his starting position was in the opposition half, I am not convinced this is a permanent situation especially when the club has spent big money on wingers.

Seems to be the latest hipster manager flavour of the month…

He actually looks like he has potential, he's 17 years younger than Potter. Nowhere near ready for the Chelsea job though
