Reasons for optimism

We still have one of the best academies on the planet.

And it hasn't produced enough talent to make it at the highest level. Reece James is the only plus but we need a Harry Kane level player out of it.

They've produced mainly defenders, and a few midfielders, but pretty much no-one up front. Off the top of my head I can only think of Tammy, CHO, Broja and Solanki in 20 years, and none of those are exactly top drawer, Tammy probably the best, and he can't get in the Roma team right now ... hopefully Broja comes back strong after his injury.

Anyone remember 15/16? Finished tenth, win the league the next season. Also, we still have the same players (pretty much) that last season went to the Bernabeu and almost eliminated RM.

We don't have poor players, but we do have inexperienced ones that need a full preseason and the right coach, tactics to bring the best out of them. We need to focus on our domestic form.

We have been spoiled by spending only three seasons outside the top four in the last 20+ seasons. Having the extra time to train and focus on the league means we can improve that league form going into next season.

Hard to be optimistic when we've blown so much money. Had we not invested then we would have reason to feel optimistic if the owners said they were being tight and will invest in the squad come summer.

We have made so many dud expensive signings that I wasn't excited by to begin with.

I knew Cucurella was far too much and a back up for Chilly. Sterling was underwhelming. Mudryk for 80-100m was just crazy. I had never seen or even heard of him before he signed. Koulibaly I was happy with until I saw the ridiculous wages we offered. Fofana I more worried given his injury woes.

I'll admit I was happy with Aubameyang. Purely for the fact that we are just desperate for goals and need any kind of striker.

Perhaps that I will one day hopefully get to experience this club without Boehly at the greasy Americans again. As Didier said yesterday, I no longer recognise my club and that won't change before the owners are gone. I admire anyone who's able to remain optimistic but I dread what's coming this summer and beyond.

This has gotten far beyond buying or selling players or even managers. In less than a year they have somehow managed to completely obliterate a culture that was built for over two decades and by many great Chelsea-legends like for example Didier. Bringing in some Australian Rugby-coach to instill winning mentality at a club that was built on winning mentality for years and years just underlines the folly.

Hold on you are forgetting Christensen & Musiala? Those 2 have better achievements than Kane. Rice, Tammy & Tomori are also products of our Youth team. Tomori is another one building a very good career at Milan.

I'm actually excited about the future. It will be a blessing not having euro comps next year, albeit a loss to the club financially, and we can clear out Ziyech, Pulisic, RLC, Auba, Havertz... at least.

Would be great to keep Mount and get Lukaku back for at least two seasons, Broja should be fit, but big reset and acceptance of where we are is necessary.

the concern is FFP and that we've blown too much too soon on the wrong players, and now getting out of that mess.... but we have deep pockets, it's just using it kore intelligently low.... how tf did we ever sign Potter

I was talking about forwards !

I class Musiala as more of an attacking midfielder.

At least Silva is speaking the truth about the club. If it's up to me, give him a 10 year contract as a coaching staff and potential manager, Boehly probably will get rid of him

Agreed. Drogba and Silva are calling it like it is. Lamps is just the interim, I hope he speaks his mind and shows how clueless these owners are, when his time is done.

could do with JT doing so as well. Maybe then the majority of the fan base will listen before we end up in league 1.

Thanks to Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea are on a 500 match unbeaten run in my football manager save, I choose to live in that reality 😂

Noni Madueke impressed me yesterday, showed desire as well as good work ethic and technique.

I continue to have this gut feeling Mudryk and Santos will turn in to special players for us as well.

Opposite gut feeling that I had that Romelu Sterling would end up the exact waste of money he has become, so hopefully a good sign since that had been prove bang on.

Yep, there might not be much room for optimism with this run we are on since Lamps took over but just have to focus on NEXT SEASON.

We must all have encountered that great feeling of when we clear out the loft / garage / garden shed. A job you have been putting off for months but finally get around to it and spend a whole weekend clearing out the old sh*t. Hopefully all Chelsea supporters will have that great feeling when we clear out all the dross in the summer.

No European football next year, which gives the manager more time to work with the players, get his ideas across, incorporate his style and blend the youth with experience.

We also have the makings of a very good first 11

New keeper

James/Gusto

Fofana/Silva

Colwill/Badiashile

Chilwell

New CDM

Enzo/Kante

Madueke/Mount

Nkunku/Santos

Mudryk

New striker

As various teams have shown you don't have to spend the earth to get quality, you just need good scouting and a good manager to develop them.

Hopefully we can find an Oshiman, a Rice, a Maignan, before they make a big money move rather than being their big money move.
