Excellent, that means we can still say we're in transition! Which is good, because we say that practically every season, I've grown fond of the T word 🤩
July 2, 20233 yr Not going to lie, I'm pretty excited about the new season under Pochettino. I also feel like we managed to move the players on who for me stopped us from being competitive against the likes of City & Liverpool. It feels like we will have a very fresh squad with new ideas, bring it on!
July 2, 20233 yr On 19 July, Chelsea begin their pre-season tour of the USA with a game against newly promoted League Two side Wrexham. Tricky. Just 25 days later, Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge for the first league game of the season. We still have to get rid of some deadwood. Sign a few new lads. A few key positions. Maybe some grown up players? Settle in some other new lads [most of the team?]. New league. New country. New money. New girlfriends. Very tough transition that. Yep, we are still a team in transition. Phew. That was close. Transition. It is.

This is a root of our problems as a club. We have no guts to tell what the season is about. We can't expect to be even close of top 4 with this young side. If we don't set ourselves a reasonable target the season might go tits up after 2 months and players lose faith. Naturally Pochettino has a big responsibility in all of this. At best we could be fighting for 4th. That is if we don't go apesh*t in the market and buy players like Neymar or Mbappe and do something weird. In my view that would be a massive risk. In a sense that first season with Frank we all realized we are up against it so the team and the fans knew what the season was about and we over-achieved. This season is something similar. Get the basics right. Build up the players and hone the system. Find out who your new leaders are. Show some foundations.

July 2, 20233 yr My missus had her last top 8 teeth out a month ago, the dentists obviously had a sense of humour. You can no doubt guess the time of the appointment.

July 2, 20233 yr The club have done amazing at shifting deadwood. Still abit to go but almost there. Signed some young players with potential but the biggest challenge to getting them to perform and step up. Players like Mudryk, Noni, Sterling. Our forwards in particular need to improve their game. Hope Pochettino has an early night tonight. He’s in for a long season!

July 2, 20233 yr Chelsea have appointed Chris Hughes as a first team doctor. Hughes worked under Pochettino at Spurs and also used to work at Chelsea. (@MikeKeegan_DM) #CFC Hopefully this will get the injuries under control.

July 3, 20233 yr I'm feeling more confident Pochettino can whip them into shape,it was disgraceful last season.
July 3, 20233 yr I think we’ll have a good season. The deadwood has gone, squad better shaped. I think Pochettino will give everyone a lift with his methods and it will feel fresh. Welcome Pochettino - hope the induction goes ok!
July 3, 20233 yr This season should be exciting. How can it not be..? We have basically sold everyone who was someone in our dysfunctional team. New guys are raring to show us what they are made of. I am really excited to see Mudryk, Madueke and Jackson. All show promise but are far from being anywhere near their peak. I also want to see Enzo taking control of our midfield with his new team mates. Not sure who they are. Maybe Gallagher now has a chance to break free like he did for Palace. Nkunku should be a premium player. Really hoping we have some luck and these attackers click. Remember the last time our attack clicked. Me neither.
July 3, 20233 yr I'm a little surprised there was no fanfare from the club about Pochettino officially starting the job on Saturday. Wasn't expecting a press conference, but a couple snaps of him at cobham? Maybe a quote?

I do think many people need to wind back their expectations. There's no excuse to be having a season like we just had, we need to see improvements on the pitch, visible improvements even if the results aren't perfect. I'm definitely not expecting a top 4 finish this season.

I absolutely do think we should be challenging top 4 if we keep our (rumoured) best Xl fit (big if I know), infact Kepa likely still being #1 and a lot of new faces to gel are the only reason I'm not aiming higher. That being said I do think Pochettino should be left alone in terms of fan pressure if the advanced metrics are pointing to sustainable progression, but sadly I don't think he will.
