July 4, 20233 yr “We need leaders not followers.” That was the stand out line for me, starting to look forward to the new season now.

Greatest in England and put a time frame to measure that claim. Go ahead then, disprove it. Whilst I very quickly in the midst of our managerial trouble days identified him as a rational and sensible option to bring in, now he's here I feel a bit uncertain. He certainly has the fire, passion and belief I want a Chelsea manager to have but that culture he spoke of........ Culture is passed along and I fear the rate of dismantlement of the squad of winners to what it is now means that, our inherent nature to be a hard team, winners, strong mentality in the face of adversity and all else that makes us Chelsea, our DNA is not flowing through some if not most of the new ones. I supported Frank's appointment even though I knew he would be a failure on the pitch because it is quite important to embed that culture into a relatively new team with young members and I could not think of any better managerial options that had earned the right to do so. I don't want this joyous thread to be all pessimistic, cannot understand why I feel this way so I'll just say good luck Pochettino. Happy to have you here and hope it works out how we wish.
July 4, 20233 yr The embedded culture was a total disaster this season. It had to change. it is his job to instil his passion and drive in our young players. Leaders will emerge, generally those that want more from the team. Not the shoulder shruggers and whingers, we had this season, even Silva was dragged down the last month of the season.
July 4, 20233 yr I hope he can fix the problem of the opposition (any team)running into our box and having 2 spare, unmarked players waiting to shoot or score..we seem to be the only team that does this and it's been going on for ages.

July 4, 20233 yr Looking forward to seeing us play next season - I expect a more progressive and attacking style of play, of course there will be hiccups, maybe a little burping and perhaps some colic. GERD. Teething troubles. Hopefully we will get the formula right. Just as long as we are not as constipated as we were last season.

I think James being out for the season was more a precaution as all the games post Madrid were the deadest of dead rubbers.

July 4, 20233 yr I know it's water under the bridge now but if he is sticking around then surely we could have talked him round in terms of taking the interim role until the end of last season?

Still puzzled as to why he’s even sticking around in the first place, especially after the blind praise he had for Potter. Deluded guy. Hope the club know what they’re doing with this one, as surely you’d want all the Potter boys out the door regardless.

Perhaps he's going to be surplus to requirements, as Pochettino is presumably bringing his own backroom staff.
July 5, 20233 yr Pochettino has changed my whole mood about football in one day, shows the presence and aura he has compared the to flaccid Potter and limp Lampard, love the guy when he pulled on that number 8 but should never manage us again ever. Keep your legacy intact go into punditry and prove balance when we play.

Maybe he`s a really good coach who's worth keeping around, someone the players trust etc. Completely changing the management isnt always the best way to go, making use of useful assets is a much better idea.

According to the club website, Bruno, Bjorn Hamberg, Kyle Macaulay and Ben Roberts are all still around. I'd expect a few to move on shortly ... once Pochettino has his team established, or whenever Potter gets a new job somewhere else. I think I read recently that Roberts has been promoted to Head of the Goalkeeping department under Pochettino, so he's definitely here for a while.
July 5, 20233 yr He talks that talk. We'll get to see the results of his pre season in a month or so. My only take / concern is that CFC are the biggest club he has managed in his career. He is here to prove a point (he can be a winner) and take his own management style to the next level. Just hope his ambition is matched by the players and board. Hope he can figure a way to give our academy graduates a pathway to the first team. I really won't have a problem if he brings the age of our squad down to 21/21 as you need seriously legs and stamina to play the closing down/ passing game. We'll probably get rolled over a number of times this season, but so long as there is effort and pride in the badge, anything will be better than last season.

Right now I don't think we have slots for academy grad. We are loaded with players in every positions (I assume we are talking about kids not the like of Chalobah or Maatsen) Edited July 5, 20233 yr by Bob stark

We are loaded with players in every positions (I assume we are talking about kids not the like of Chalobah or Maatsen) I think the thing that Lampard brought to the club 1st time he was appointed was a route to the first team for players who could make the grade and step up to the first team. Yes it was imposed with the transfer ban but Mount was the poster boy of that move, we're now 60 million quid better off as a result. How much is Reece "Cafu" James worth? Couple that with the loans and sales of other youth teasers, the Tomori's even RLC or Abraham, our academy is actually a money printer. The investment in it by Roman is starting to pay back the club handsomely. Do we have more James/ Mounts coming through? Yep... We won the Champions league with a number in the squad. So despite our desire as fans to see the best players signing / plying their trade at CFC, I hope the Pochettino continues to dip into the talent pool that is the Chelsea youth and hence why I think it is really important to keep blooding young academy players. How much is Chalobah or Maatsen with already? Just think how much it would cost to buy back Mac Guess? Rumours are we're looking at ex academy grad Tino Livramento for 20 million. Given the transition we're in, the academy can be used to help supplement the club budget so we could afford the likes of 70 million pound players and meet FFP requirements. the squad looks fresher this year, we're culling dead wood from it, think the club is in a really healthy place given the last 12 months. Lots to look forward to should Pochettino get it right.

All this talent we are buying for a lot of money from all over the world will likely stall our own Academy and block the potential pathway to the first-team for many of them which is why some of our brightest Academy talents are either hesitant about extending or have already left.

But this upcoming season we simply have way have no spot for any kids 3 GK Cucu/maatsen/Chilwell/Hall Silva/Fofana/Chalo/Colwill/Badi James/Gusto Enzo/Conor/Cuku/Santos/Casadei Nkunku/Sterling/Murdyk/Madueke/CHO Borja/Jackson We are absolutely loaded in every position.
