Nicolas Jackson - striker

Oh, and I love him.

I really like him and agree he looks better out wide at the moment. I think Bob Stark nailed it very early in this thread when he said he was a wide forward not a striker.

I think he could be a really good player for us in the future, and like many young players needs a season or two to settle in, adjust and learn.

I'm really happy for him to continue to get minutes and forgive him his errors. If he could only learn to stop panicking in the box his numbers would look a lot healthier.

Who should he be playing up front then ?

Didn’t say he shouldn’t be playing up front, I’m just saying he’s not a CF. Could do worse than give that Washington youngfella a run.

Washington is literally a child. He’d be thrown into the wolves.

Worst he's played for a while to be honest

Sort of, I feel like he's always been playing like that but because he'll nick a goal people will gloss over it. He usually does miss about 4 sitters for every goal unfortunately.

I think he does generally cause the defenders problems but that's usually when he's running at them, today he was the lone striker and just completely out of the game especially in that second half.

So was Owen, Rooney, Terry, Lampard, Deli Ali etc etc. he wouldn’t be on the bench if he wasn’t good enough, so he obviously has talent.

Washington has talent, as in enough talent to start as a striker for a midtable EPL team? Didn't he score like 3 goals for the youth team since his arrival? Of course a manager could throw anyone into the game, just like the FM games our owners been playing.

Another one injured?

He might have just as well been injured last night for how little he contributed.

When we were making subs, the commentators were expecting him to come off, but somehow he stayed on. Don't want Palmer played as a force 9, but we would honestly be better playing Noni, Carney, Mudryk, Palmer and Gallagher as they all carry more threat than Jackson.

I don't recall him getting any chances oddly enough but his link up play was still good, I can see why he was left on.

A striker should be putting himself about and causing (a very average) United defence problems.

And I just think other players are on better wavelength and link up better. Palmer & Enzo, Palmer & Gusto, Palmer & Carney - all do well, especially when you also have Noni and Mudryk running on and causing issues too.

He did do this in the first half to be fair, it just wasn't to his own benefit it was in attempts to play others in.

Some of this group can be improved with better coaching, but I don't think Jackson is one of them. Had a bit of something about him at the start of the season, that faded and didn't return until after the AFCON, had a few decent moments in games after that and has been back to sh*t since.

His whole attitude on the pitch stinks. He never wants it enough and too often he makes the wrong decision.

Just drop him and play ANYONE in his place as they can't offer any less than Jackson has done of late.

Think he is one card away from a two match suspension. Think we should enquire to see if they can increase that to at least 10 games.

Nothing sticks with this guy.. to have such a weak number 9 means we always have to build up slow..

he was also shocking in counter attacks..

This. It wouldn't matter so much about his lack of natural finishing and poor striker's movement if only he could win more of the physical battles and hold the ball up better. Winning a few headers would help as well.

I have said, over and over and over again, that he is rubbish.

That remains true.

I don't blame him - I blame the manager for continuing to pick him.

If  nobody else is fit from the first team squad, play a youngster. If every youngster is rubbish, play a broom 🧹
