Nicolas Jackson - striker

I wish he was half as good as Kalou.

Eh, I don't know. I remember Kalou, and he was as frustrating as Jackson was when he played. They're the same level. Kalou was just lucky that he had better strikers around him to take the attention away from him.

We all want him to be the same quality as an Anelka or a Drogba (no chance) but the reality is that he is more like a Kalou.

Drogba is one centre forward that is somehow better than his numbers say. Played in the PL for 8 seasons, had 2 20+ league goals seasons and is somehow one of the best CFs ever. Jackson’s goal output last season was better than 6 out of the seasons Drogba had in the league.

It is hard comparison to make at this point. Drogba was 25/26 years old when he arrived at Chelsea. Jackson is 23 at this point. One could argue that the 23 year old Jackson is ahead of the 23 year old Drogba in terms of quality.

The people comparing Drogs to Jackson, either a) have never seen drogba play or b) are morons.

Drogba was fantastic, who contributed to games significantly even when not scoring.

Jackson in comparison is a hinderance most of the time -  even when scoring.

I have made similar comparisons. Although I look back on his time with fond memories there was a reason why I called him Kalou-less back then. I find Jackson very similar to Kalou but tinged with instances of sh*t attitude that Kalou never exhibited.

I don’t see the comparison with Drogba at all.  A completely different style of striker.  I see Jackson more as a poor, poor, poor man’s Henry.  A converted winger etc.

To be fair, this season he has got to a poor, poor man’s Henry level, credit where credit is due…..

There are some things that come to mind that Drogba had that Jackson doesn't - strength / power both in the air and on his feet, balance, and the ability to out jump and out muscle centre halves in the desire to win the ball...And you knew you had a chance of getting that winning goal when needed when he was on the pitch because he had that ultimate desire to win...look at the finals he scored in. Defences would crumble when he was on his game, he would destroy their confidence before the start of the game on reputation alone.  It's not to say that Jackson, doesn't have the desire to win....he just hasn't got the attributes, skills or mindset, he's still a clown act at times, to mouthy for his own good and doesn't know when to stop.  in fairness while his goal tally is decent, he should have double what he has given that a majority of the chances he has missed are gift wrapped on a plate for him or his concentration levels are simply not there when it matters.   Watch the video and tell me Jackson has any of these attributes or skillsets that Drogba had, and I don't think he'll reach his level in the next 3-4 years if some fans are comparing ages.

23 year old Nicholas Jackson

Wonderful....and how many of those tricks, flicks and going past defenders resulted in goals; while he does that decently his end pass is generally awful or runs into trouble...Hazard did the same thing with the tricks and flicks...except his end product was somewhat different..

Well since you ask, so far three more goals than Drogba at the same stage of his Chelsea career................... 😉

Hazard scored 4 less in his first season than Jackson did in the same number of appearances (35). Jackson now has 9 goals in 16, in his second term, whereas Hazard scored 17 after 35 appearances in his 2nd term.......Jackson should also have a very high assist rate, but the players around him couldn't score either........

Well he's certainly divided the opinion of some fans....

Used to love it when we played Arsenal. We only needed a goal keeper and Drogba to win the game. Drogba was blessed with so many physical gifts and an unbelievable will to win. Jackson will never reach those levels, and I'm certain even his biggest fans know that in their hearts.

I’m not having him at all tbh

I think he is sooo bad. No football brain at all. Stupid petulant yellows. Some chances he misses are unbelievable

just my opinion

He isn’t as bad as he is being made out to be. He has only missed 10 big chances all season. To put that in perspective; Salah has also missed 10, Palmer 9, and Halaand 13. He also has an xG of 9.05 which is on par with his 9 league goals.

It’s Sancho & Neto for me that have been underwhelming. We are half way into the season and the former has 2 league goals and 3 assists, the latter has 1 league goal and 2 assists. Sorry but those numbers are piss poor, and somehow it’s Jackson and Madueke that get called out.

The difference between last year and early this season and now, is night and day. Virtually no petulance. His finishing has improved immensely, last season the many saved shots of this year, would have endangered the row z fans. There is blatently obvious improvement. He does have a long way to go, but he is getting there. I said it when he was signed, eventually our problem will be keeping him, he is going to be a phenominal striker, providing he keeps the desire to improve.

You're right. It's awful to say it but it's a bit like we start with 10 men...
