We shouldn't even be looking in the market for a midfielder, this is what we have now and it needs to work. Agreed, I don't even know what we would be looking for in Midfield, another DM, a Lampard type with 10-15 goals a season? Taking into account the players need to be under 23 and willing to sign 8 years contract, one really needs to dig deep into the FM database to find a match. It' really a screwed up first world problem we'd still want more after about 300M spent in Midfield since the take over Break the current cycle, sign a proven striker , it can't be any worse than Cucurella deal.
December 7, 20232 yr Change the thread title. "Nicolas Jackson - Winger played as a Striker" Cause that is what Nico is, a winger converted to striker to cover Villareal when Moreno got injured.
December 7, 20232 yr 11 hours ago, just said: Shearer was the making the case last night for bringing someone in during the January transfer window. The only one possibly available and proven to have done it in the EPL is Ivan Toney. When N'kunku does finally make a return it will take a good while to bring him up to speed. With his injury record he will need to be eased in rather than thrown in. Toney is just too expensive and too old for our transfer policy. If we want to go this route, then why bother with Caicedo, Mudryk, n Palmer. We should have gotten the like of Rice and Madison in the summer.
December 8, 20232 yr Jackson has all the talent to really be a fantastic striker. Right now its the application he puts in improving his game. Does he work harder in training to be the best version he can be, or is he going to continue "getting by" like we've seen from so many players over the years. Certainly sliding into OnlyFans slags DMs isn't the answer.

December 8, 20232 yr Despite all the criticism I still like Wacko Jacko as a player. He's just somebody who needs time and minutes on the pitch to mature as a player. Perfect signing for a lower/mid table side as there is definitely talent there. It's just he's here - at Chelsea - where expectation is huge and all eyes are on him. Good player, maybe the wrong club at the wrong time. But I don't blame him.
December 8, 20232 yr I'd be interested to see how he does as back at his original position as a winger off a striker.
December 9, 20232 yr Just a little thought provoker. Dominic Solanke, former graduate of our academy, left us for Liverpool and ended up on the south coast. He is potentially only now fulfilling his potential and having a break out season. He's now 26 and scored against pretty much all the sides above us. Jackson has been at the club six months and is being written off... taking flack from fans. He simply needs time. I dont get the speed at which we write players off, we really need patience as we're no longer a top 4 team
December 9, 20232 yr Solanke is a good finisher, head, shots or backheels. I think we should go in for him rather than the latest hot shot from abroad who may not even settle in the team.

I wonder how he would be doing there, under less pressure, had he not failed the medical.

Probably the same as with us, we just have unrealistic demands of a side who have literally been together about 8 months. Im not sure what everyone's expectations were at the start of the season. I hoped for a run for a European cup spot most likely outside the top four. Cant remember but I think I would have taken top 8 and up and a team gelling together and showing development in a playing style. Got twenty games to go. Fingers crossed.

There is always the cups mate. On Jackson I am not so sure. Maybe they would play hin in his actual priper position of attacking winger, off a main striker. Less pressure to score from there may help him to produce more.

Probably struggling there too, but here is our problem…..We are signing bloody Bournemouth targets ffs. Targeting players that have a tiny purple patch based on simply their age and last 5 games played. It’s a f**king disaster strategy and both our directors of football should be fired. edit: used wrong comment for reply, might not have context. Comment stands though 😂 Edited December 9, 20232 yr by SimonH

I'll take a mug of tea in a chipped cup at the moment. 🙂 not a bad shout, would love an FA Cup...

In fairness it's a difficult one, who was there to sign in the summer? No chance we would've gotten Kane, Osimhen costs a fortune. The club has spent a fortune on so many strikers and it's not turned out well, this time they gave an underdog a go. I can understand the logic in signing Jackson, hindsight is a bitch. Even come next season, no striker stands out for me that'll be worth the investment. I think even Toney is very overpriced for his age.

And it was a gamble….. but it’s not paying off any time soon. He needs to be benched.
December 9, 20232 yr Some of the misses and bozo play is not down to pressure or being in a new team surely?? He's just absolutely crap and will not blossom into a star. I'm not seeing any unique qualities. He's terrible.

We have seen supposed elite level strikers flounder in our team, and this guy - who is unproven and extremely rough around the edges - doesnt look like he is going to make much of a better fist of it. Not his fault we purchased a guy that doesnt deserve to be in the league.
December 10, 20232 yr Hold-up play is good, generally able to keep the ball and play it to someone. Everything else is terrible.

December 16, 20232 yr He's on course for 15+ premier league goals this season, with no penalties He seems to have a knack for getting into good positions, despite his questionable finishing

Very far from convincing so far but there's definitely something to work with.
December 16, 20232 yr Made me a couple of quid - he's lined my pocket a few times this season. no complaints from me. Do wish he'd start doubling up but just needs to keep it going.
