Over the past couple of seasons, we have struggled to make a consistently high number of chances - and we lacked a striker who could put them away, when the odd chance came around. That is not the case this season - where we have been pretty good when it comes to chance creation. That is progress in itself - but now we are lacking a player to do the fundamentals of forward play. I am not saying it is easy to find a striker who can score 20 goals a season straight off the bat in any given team - but I do think that there is a player somewhere in the world - probably several of them, which our scouts should be able to find, that can: a) control a ball b) finish chances with some assuredness and not look a nervous wrech needing 20 extra touches c) read the game and stay onside d) not be a hinderence to our attack play e) have some footballing intelligence f) be able to show some control and not get booked for stupid behaviour game in game out g) be able to show some self control off the pitch, and not do stupid things with only fans tarts h) be able to pass a ball I) be able to head a ball. If we find a player that does the above, then with the number of chances being created, the goals will naturally follow.... It shouldnt need a superstar Kane, Osimen or Haaland to flourish here. The eyes dont lie, we are making chances. We just have a clueless strikeforce. All the strikers who have shown they are capable of doing that in the Premier League are worth a fortune. The best you can get is taking a gamble in the foreign leagues like we did with Jackson and see if it pays off. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying it's not as simple as you're making it out to be. I don't even rate Osimhen in the slightest and that fella will cost over a 100 million, I think we've got bob hope of getting a cheap forward who's going to come here and do well, but I would rather that than buying another Lukaku.

Jackson showed some promise, he was young, looked like he had potential and early in the season he looked like a solid product. Unfortunately he's quickly done a complete 180. Go watch Jackson against West Ham early in the season, he was probably our best player in that game. Didn't score but looked brilliant and caused them all sorts of problems, I would love that Jackson back. Why? why is he looking like a sack of potatoes when he looked lively and a handful in the opening few premiership games? It's not just him, but players who can constantly hit double numbers in careers away from the bridge seize up playing for us. Is it the constant criticism online? are these young men too fragile mentally? Are they too cocky or arrogant? too scared to shoot and miss? Something aint right... I really want either him or Broja to come good because we desperately need a striker. Nkunku will get injured again this season, that's the law. so we need the others to lead the line. But it takes confidence.

But it takes confidence. That's the million-dollar question isn't it. We've never had much luck with strikers, we've without a doubt got the worst record in the league when it comes to forwards. There's a reason Diego Costa is so universally loved by Chelsea supporters despite his antics and many notable sh*te performances. It's because he was one of the few who could actually score goals and do his job properly. I used to find Diego very frustrating in all honesty, I didn't like the way he was a walking red card, or how badly he used to ruin the build up play, or especially how he used to take holidays during the season after he got bored or fell out with the manager, whatever it was. But f**k me, I do miss him still, because he was the last reliable forward we've had who could bag 20 goals a season and you could count on to win a game no matter how big or small. Since then we've just had donkeys after donkeys who miss about 10 open chances for every one goal.

Then don't f**king gamble! This is a scouts job. This isn't a binary good or bad issue - there are clearly levels. cat 1- Elite striker: Haaland/Kane level - unaffordable and only 2 or 3 in the world etc. cat 2 - Best of the rest: Osimen level - overpriced and not many of them cat 3- Steady Eddies: Olly watkins/ ivan toney - overpriced but premier league proven. Not world beaters but decent - albeit well known. players in these first 3 categories do not really need scouting. then we have .... Cat 4: Wonderkids. Players who are young, unproven but with a high ceiling who have the potential to go on and be the next haaland or kane. These are in short supply, in a highly competitive market; and it's akin to flipping a coin - Risky wonder kids who could go on to become world beaters or just as easily become the next freddy adu. This seems to be the gamble our owners are playing - without fruit. cat 5: proven prospects: younger players, with enough miles on the road to have proven themselves to be able to play football to a good standard. Be able to pass, shoot, dribble, head - i.e the fundamentals. These may not have the high ceiling to be the next haaland, but they have a strong foundation to build on to become the next olly watkins, jimmy floyd hasslebaink. This is a market we don't seem to ever buy in. Not every player has to be a superstar - there is always space for a james milner type - i.e a good, hard working, non flashy player who does the fundamentals well. Cat 6: donkeys. Players who have significant flaws in their mentality (lukaku, morata), game type (werner - i.e only suited to counter attack), or ability (broja). Sometimes you have the perfect storm and get a player who is so flawed that he crossed multiple areas - Jackson is one of those, with a questionable mentality, and several deficiencies in his game. A scouts job is to find players in cats 4 and 5, and weed out those in 6. They have failed with Jackson. Edited December 27, 20232 yr by nonotnowjim

I take your point there's been a lot of poor moments from Jackson. But there's a thing with football fans were they shame players who miss chances or mess up in good positions but those players are always much better than the true Donkeys who have 0 impact. Give me Jackson who gets goals, gets himself in good positions and links up well regularly despite having far too many gaffes over someone like Broja who offers nothing at this level. Of course an actual proven striker wouldn't go amiss but the clowns running the show didn't want to buy one.
December 27, 20232 yr If he goes to the African nations cup, may be the big break we been waiting for. If he scored that goal, we'd call him a useless player that scores goals, but he couldn't, so..

December 28, 20232 yr Seriously, he's got to go... he should be playing in another league probably in Serie A where the tempo's a bit slower Like watching a rabbit caught in the headlights when he gets the ball in front of goal if he's onside... But excellent at scoring from offside positions 😁

December 28, 20232 yr Another howler of a miss - that could easily have cost us points. Add it to the list.
December 28, 20232 yr This is from this morning's Daily Express; "This might be the game that convinces Chelsea to sign a striker in January. Nicolas Jackson still looks a level below the Premier League’s elite and endured another frustrating night at Stamford Bridge. Having misplaced a few relatively simple first-half passes, groans were audible around the stadium. The 22-year-old missed a one-on-one midway through the second period and then had a goal ruled out for offside. Jackson should not have strayed offside before tapping home a right-wing cross. His blushes were spared by Madueke’s 89th-minute penalty."
December 28, 20232 yr I think it's a bit harsh to criticise him for straying offside on that goal however the chance he misses earlier and his all round play bar about 38 seconds where he made a positive contribution were again very poor.
December 28, 20232 yr Absolutely honking again, summed up by one moment when Nkunku passed to him a wall ball, Jacksons return was dreadful and set Palace off for a counter, which eventually led to their goal. It was the easiest pass imaginable, yet he completely f**ked it up. Him starting ahead of Broja is moronic.

December 28, 20232 yr Bless him, he's a bit crap isn't he. We can sign a new striker in the summer but the rest of the season with Jackson leading the line is a big worry for me.
December 28, 20232 yr At the end of the day he’s a very poor footballer and a garbage striker. Who ever did their homework on him and agreed the purchase needs to be gone, much like a lot of our embarrassing signings. Been looking at his history and to be honest there must be something dodgy going on. I can’t see why the f**k we paid millions for this dud. Anyone? Edited December 28, 20232 yr by Kev56
December 28, 20232 yr Give him his due, he never hides, and keeps on trying no matter what . Not good enough, but not the only one who isn't good enough amongst the players we've bought. And I might be wrong, but isn't he our top goal scorer? Edited December 28, 20232 yr by The Rising Sun Info

I will always try to will them on until they leave. Imagine getting booing in your own job, my your customers or colleagues.

I said he's not good enough along with others we've bought And anyway, we bought him for whatever reason , if he's not up to it , then it's not his fault , someone's who is paid a LOT of money decided he was good enough to play for Chelsea. Anyway, apparently his nickname was " Neymar" when he was young, so that was probably what decided the transfer 🤣 !🤣 Edited December 28, 20232 yr by The Rising Sun Info
