I get why some don't like Zeta posting an image of a donkey in a Chelsea shirt and meaning it is Nico, I am not a fan either but cannot claim to be a Saint when it comes to not slagging our players off either.

Plenty have called Nico a donkey on here, or worse, a picture is no worse than words imo.

I find this visceral hate for him weird. He was signed as a youthful gamble and he's ended up through injuries being fully relied on to lead the line. 

I don't think Jackson has the ability to become a top level striker, but that's not his fault and he's not the reason we are 10th. Maybe he does come good in time, but i think a lot of us seem to forget he wasn't signed for 80m and to be our star striker.

He is also a winger most of his career that played striker at the back end of last season as Villareal had no strikers. 

He is like Sterling, a winger than can play either side and can be shoehorn in as a false 9 as need be.

We would only see of he had an extended run as a winger with a proper striker to play off of.

We have a proper striker in Broja who is not yet even 25% of where he was physically or mentally before his horror injury. So if we get one in the window then we will see.

Very casual use of the phrase proper striker.

1 goal that wasn't kicked against his shins in his last 50 games in English football. It just isn't good enough.

Broja is more of an old fashioned number 9 than Nico is but he's a long long way from being good enough to even be a squad player for us and that was apparent before his injury.

The goal scorer we need isn't in our squad and we chose to go into the season without one.

What becomes concerning then is that we then went into the season with a striker force consisting off

Jackson: unproven at elite level, more of a winger

Broja back from injury still not fully proven at elite level before injury 

Nkunku: injured for 4 months unproven in the league

The mind boggles. Look Jackson is beyond frustrating, but when you actually consider (despite the least impressive hattrick of all time) he does have a decent strike so far in his first season in a very competitive league.

Is he promising? Yes, can he improve also yes. He is as others have remarked not the player to be our starting number 9 in the long run and I would argue short term also. I so think he does have a place in the squad/project in the long run. I just would not expect him to be the starting striker next season and if I'm honest even after January.

I think it's more concerning when people immediately jump to those comparisons if anything, but I'm sure your heart is in the right place.
