Poch In or Out? The Mega-thread Merged

And missed a sitter, where they literally walked past our defence..

I'm only half serious. The point is we forced West Ham to only moments. Obviously with additional defensive quality we would be better.  Replace Cucurella with James as the inverted fullback. Have our LB defensively strong and aerially dominate. Put in Colwill at LCB and a top CB to replace Silva.

I was at a point where I was wanting him out at whatever cost whereas now, I'm still Poch out, but only if we are certain it's going to be an upgrade and for me if we have the chance to get Tuchel back or to get Amorim we should do it.

If we get Europa he has to stay regardless. Momentum is surely on our side as a result heading into next season.

When we talk of replacing the manager, I think some overlook the reason that led to his appointment.

Who was available? Out of everyone at the time he was the best to be in position to, in my own view, help develop these youth. Never to win or challenge for the title, and I emphasise those were my own thoughts when I supported his appointment.

It is still the same situation, there are currently maybe a few better than there were when he was appointed but they all have a complication.

Tuchel, Conte, Mourinho, what other A listers are currently available? I have omitted some as I don't believe in appointing managers that have coached only in one league where it's usually a slam dunk with their team for the title.

We could go all out for one of the up and coming currently in a job but you get exactly what you're getting with Poch. Uncertainty. Even those that have done it time and time again, there's uncertainty to their title winning credentials. Or we could try to tempt the Don but that only happens in dreamland. He's never gonna leave a job where he is worshipped, surrounded by talent and winning like crazy. People forget that the Man City dominance of the last five years is matched or perhaps even bettered by Madrid's.

The main problem is that Chelsea we have absolutely walked our way down the list of elite football managers. Who else is left? Pep, Klopp, Simeone?

It looks good but I feel like we've been saved a fair bit with the last couple of games. Out of those 16 games how many good performances have we had? Then add on the cup games we've played in where we nearly got embarrassed by championship teams and lost a cup final to a depleted Liverpool. I can't forget that just a few games ago we were embarrassed by Arsenal and it was almost unanimous that we needed a new manager in the summer.

I know football is very much a sport of 'what have you done for me lately' but Poch has gotten so much wrong since he's been here. If we get Europa and a Tuchel or Amorim doesn't become available to us then yeah maybe give him until Xmas, but either way having him in charge going in to next season doesn't fill me with confidence.

Another thing we need to look at with Poch is the injuries. They follow him everywhere he goes and if something doesn't change we're just gonna have the same problems next season and long term it'll devalue the value of our players because they keep getting injured.

The injury record that @timetowaste mentions is something that really bothers me. I can’t believe that the amount of injuries and set backs are all down to “Cobham training lawn”, “the medical staff is rubbish”, they are made of crystal”, etc I agree that we might not have the best medical team, but I can’t agree with Cobham not being up to standards. Maybe the players, being as young as they are, are made of crystal but I’m inclined to look more in the coach direction. What is the coaching team doing that many get sets back or get injured after playing 10 minutes of a game or are on their way to feature in the team. There should be some focus on how Pochettino is coaching the players, maybe it doesn’t suit young, developing players.

If he gets Europa league and we continue playing at the same level we did two days ago for the next 3 games, Ill be okay with keeping him. However, I wouldn't be in a rush to give him a contract extension. He'd have to earn that by getting us to Champions League (or a soft title challenge) next season.

On that note, if we'd of taken the chances we create most games then we would be in the top four at a minimum.

There will always be chances for teams regardless of their level, it's taking them that counts.

Funny how people seem to ignore this when talking about chances other teams have against us.

In the vast majority of our matches this season we have had more chances and better chances than the other teams, it’s just they score on their 2nd or 3rd attempt and we required about 10 shots to get just 1.

So if we are going to use chances created at either end as a metric then that’s even more reason to keep Poch as we would outscore virtually every team in the league bar city and arsenal and be pretty comfortable in a UCL spot.

We could win our last 3 games and finish 7th.

If we then sack him because it's not Europa league we'd be the laughing stock of world football in my opinion. (Even more than we are now)

Of course context is key.

Win our last three games and other results go our way, we could finish 5th. @axman2526 has confirmed that. And me and @Valerie believe it.

I think we will win two of our last three matches so won't catch Spurs.

It will be a fight between us and Utd and Newcastle for the remaining European places.

Not sure on the permutations just think we will get Europa next year.

So if City beat United in the FA Cup final, 5th and 6th in the league get Europa. United loss Monday (and their awful goal difference) puts 7th in our hands. If United could then do us a favour and beat Newcastle (unlikely) then 6th is in our hands.

If we get Europa, we can't sack him. We're building a bit of momentum, our attackers look like they're starting to enjoy playing together and scoring goals.

Wether you like him or not, thats massive progress on last years finish and struggles in front of goal.

Few reports coming in that some players are not happy with Poch's training sessions. Not sure how much truth there is to it but I guess we will find out eventually.

Doesn't always work that way though. Liverpool pre Klopp often had strong finishes to a season and shat the bed at start of the following season, hence the "next year will be our year" line constantly used.

At this stage we need to look beyond results. For example if we get 4/9 in the next three games but are tactically impressive and genuinely unlucky not to have 9 I'd say the signs are good and he deserves another season based on these games and the ones prior however if we sh*thouse 7-9 United style then I go into this summer thinking those games were a fluke and he's resorting to type once more.

Quite a turnaround!

Can't believe 2 wins have undone the shower of sh*te we've witnessed over the last 9 months 😂. Nothing more fickle than a football fan.

It's taken him 34 games to work out we need more than 1 midfielder. His HT team talks send us out to lose anything ew gained in the 1st half. He consistenly played people out of position (chillwell LW, maatsen rw, colwill LB, etc...). We've got the worst defensive record chelsea have ever had in the PL era. We've dropped countless points against sides we should have beaten, and been humiliated 0-5 only a few weeks ago.

A few good results and lots of you have had your memories wiped.

Would you take the risk on De Zerbi?
