But at the moment, our "success" is less points per game than we managed in the second half of last season ... ?

We're dropping points on fine margins. It isn't as if we are getting outplayed. It's the congested period of the season and game management matters now more than ever. Better game management would of had us avoid defeats to Fulham & Ipswich and likely a win against Palace. (Mike Dean of all people is saying that challenge on Neto should of been a penalty).

Maresca needs to start using all of his subs, you are allowed 5 FFS

HE HAS USED 73 OUT OF 100

Twice he has used only 1

Twice he has used only 2

Only 6 times has he used the full quota out of 20 games

It's strange - and it's a recent development for some reason. The 4 games when he has made only 1 or 2 subs are in 4 of our last 5 games, and the only one of the last 5 games that he made more subs was the loss against Ipswich when all the subs were only made after we went 2-0 down. It makes no sense at all that you would change track on this at the busiest time of the season, and when all the bench are completely fresh and presumably wanting/needing minutes, with the Conference league phase done and dusted.

He only made one sub when we went out of the League Cup to Newcastle as well, despite us being 2-0 down after 26 minutes.

I think the answer is simply, rightly or wrongly, how willing he is to use the bench comes down to how much he rates who is on it.

What I find extraordinary is that Maresca hasn't once tried Nkunku in the centre and Palmer on the right, which would seem to be the blindingly obvious way to get the best out of your two best attacking midfield players, in their best positions.

Instead we have Nkunku collecting splinters, and Palmer crowded out in the centre, going back into CM to look for the ball, or more recently shoved out to the left to allow  Fernandez to come forward on the right.

What makes it even more bizarre is look where Palmer played when Maresca managed him at Man City U-21s

Not exactly rocket science is it LOL

I think the preoccupation, presumably a mandate from Eghbali, to get the best out of and build the team around Enzo Fernandez, is clouding the thinking and buggering things up big time.

As long as Maresca want to play two winger high with central build up, it is very difficult to fit in Nkunku.

There’s nobody else though is there? Nkunku isn’t a striker, Guiu isn’t experienced enough to take on premier league defenders.

It would make a lot of sense if we could buy a striker this month to compete with Jackson.

Liam Delap would be ideal for me but honestly I’d take anyone half decent.

Literally anybody else is better….wake up and smell the coffee.

I would suggest that we were outplayed by Fulham and Palace - certainly for periods of the second half. He did nothing to stop it.

Going into our most congested game period, refusing to utilise the squad, refusing to integrate quality players, has cost us.

People that believe that the amount of subs used is related to winning matches are so out of touch... I get that you're unhappy because our young squad isn't winning but please set a real argument for it.

No one said the subs would win us those games. You are arguing a point you just made up.

The difference is not significant between 1,2,3,4 or 5 subs using a one-way ANOVA (p=0.77). And when you group as you did (1,2) vs (3,4,5) it is not significant either (p=0.35). In any case, the number of cases is probably not enough, especially for groups with 1, 2 or 3 substitutions. 🤓

You're missing the whole point of enabling some good natured trolling of Gol15 !

It's quite interesting that the Poch last 19 games vs Maresca first 19 is doing the rounds but simultaneously we keep getting told we've lost our best CB, best midfielder, 2nd best attacker and not allowed to play our best LB.

You think you can fight the once king of the Graphs?

Tired Al Pacino GIF by The Godfather

The following won matches had all 5 subs:

Wolves (6:2)

West Ham (3:0)

Brighton (4:2)

Villa (3:0)

Spurs (4:3)

As we can all notice, out of 20 goals scored, only 1 goal was scored by a substituted player (J.Felix vs Wolves) and only 2 managed to make an assist (Neto vs Wolves, Madueke vs Villa).
The overall impact of the subs on the result in those wins is negligible (Mudryk being subbed off for Neto in 46' and Madueke scoring at 49' vs Wolves) and more often than not after a sub was made we actually conceded a goal.

Overall it's easy to conclude that Maresca has a lot to learn from the last Italian that managed us well, big smoke Mau sends his regards,

Would be pointless. The standard so far has been so poor that a player as clumsy and ill-suited as Casadei has been able to perform the role with relative ease.

only because we are going this route - ANOVA cant be calculated for Non-Parametric data especially given the number of observations are less than 30 :).
