IMO whether a manager will be good or not will be determined in the first three months regardless of results. Even if we are sh*t in the first three months, there should be signs that we are building something. I do like what we've seen from Maresca so far though, compared to our previous 3 managers he at least has a plan and identity on how he wants to play while our last few managers just threw players on the pitch to see what happened and we really didn't know what the identity was supposed to be. Let's see if he manages to implement this identity. Agreed, I posted oct/Nov would be the first time I judge him and the team. And like you its not about winning every match. Is there improvement, a direction, a plan, etc. Is he a tactical coach, taking into account he's as new in the job as the kids are in theirs. Is he the one to take us to the next level and maybe stay for a bit and grow with the kids. I loved tuchel, I always thought if we were to break the mold of constantly changing managers then tuchel would be the perfect fit. He had pep in his pocket, yes it wasn't always exciting but he was a proper tactical coach programmed to win. He had the cup game sorted and if given a year or 2 he would have the league sorted imo. Also all the work he did during pandemic and lockdown while everyone else at the club was hiding. A divorce partly because he was dedicated to the club, he loved Chelsea. Shame really. Anyway, sry tuchel rant...back to topic. I see potential in Enzo snr. and hope we give him the time he deserves. Because if we do get rid of him...who do we get? And that also means starting again for the 4th year!

But that's not the point, what I'm disputing is this idea the elite managers don't make similar expectation tempering comments, they do, like all the time.

The timeline I read was separation came first because he put the club before them, then the younger model which fkd up any hope of getting back. It was trash sources as beeb, guardian, etc didn't report anything about his social life except the odd mention here and there of a seperation/divorce. If correct though, with all the pressure on the guy, pandemic, lockdown, roman being exiled not knowing what's to happen, transfer ban, and him being the only mug in front of the camera answering for all the above while the execs were hiding. As well as the seperation and how that affects his relationship with his daughters...they all add up. (Don't know about his and not all divorces are messy but mine was and that was extremely stressful). I don't condone him "cheating" (they were on a break, lol) But the stress must have been insane. I hoped the new owners and fans would give him some slack. *read this ages and ages ago so might have changed but top 3 reasons for male suicide is moving house, losing your job and divorce (can't remember what order though).

They instantly sell out on the VWR but are on resale sites for 3x the price and sport hotel packages for the tourists who will pay it as a one off when they visit
September 3, 20241 yr Mike carefree , where do you sit in the stadium? mathew Harding lower and upper always noisey east and west a bit less i think maresca will get plenty of noise sooner rather than later.

This. TT's efforts through that whole period were beyond impeccable. Heroic, in fact.

I'd like to know what on earth the thought process to getting Lukaku in given the tactics we were using up to that point. Did we think he'd score enough to make up for what he's taking out (ala Haaland) or did we actually think he'd adapt to the system? Even though i didn't want him then either I could understand the logic in 2017, getting him in in 2021 was such an obvious flop.

September 5, 20241 yr Feels like we are trying to be too clever and opening ourselves up for getting embarressed. But the reality is that if we can't still win every group game without letting the above mentioned rest at home, then there will be bigger problems to deal with. You can update the squad after the league phase so we'll probably see Palmer back in then.
September 5, 20241 yr Yeah they say we can submit a new team for the knockout stages. I don't know if I'm happy that they are safe away from getting injured on sh*tty pitches or worried we'd lose without palmer!
September 5, 20241 yr So after years of fans, commentators. Managers etc all agreeing that young players are played far too much, now chelsea do rest a young player who's just had his first full season and international tournament we get stick for disrespecting the tournament.

Exactly and nothing about how spuds can't fulfil their homegrown quota! Ours is the bigger story! The sh*t we would have got if we couldn't field 8 homegrown players! Meanwhile, Tottenham have left defenders Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon out of their Europa League squad. They could only name 23 players instead of the usual 25 because of a lack of club-trained options. Spence is back in the first-team fold after loan spells at Leeds and Genoa, but Reguilon could leave the club.

He’s not been rested, he’s just not included in the first round of the competition. We’re going into this competition shooting ourselves in the foot. We could have included Palmer and rest him unless we needed to bring the big guns to win a game. Unless they are injured, I’m not sure that it is he right decision.
