We were working on the Neto deal for mo this though, so if Felix was a key part of getting him for Mendes why go through all this with Samu?

How did Samu fall through anyway?

I don't know why Samu deal fall through but the moment neto deal was announced, i thought there must be something brewing with Mendes.

It turns out to be Felix

I'm completely confused now...

So Atletico can’t afford to buy Gallagher and Alvarez without the money from the Omorodian sale but we’re buying Osimhen now so don’t need Omorodian but we’re still obliged to buy an Atletico player because we need Gallagher off the books, so we’re basically seeing who they’re willing to sell us. Do they have a decent goalkeeper or centre half?

That makes sense of it all...but

Don't want Omorodian or Felix. And if Osimhen is really pricey then dont want him either...I'm with you. Do they have a decent cb and/or gk?

So we absolutely want Samu. We go close and a technicality is in the way and the deal collapses....okay can happen. BUT we go for Joao Felix that we already saw and have seen for 6-8 years or so. I don't know...I have a feeling our guys don't know what they are doing tbh.

In large parts there has been consistency on the player profile we have purchased. Samu is in line with this. Osimhen nor Felix is not.

They know what they are doing. They need the Gallagher money in the books this year. Look at the age of their squad in the positions that we are not totally chocked full of. They will be searching constantly to find a player that they they can factor in as an amortised purchase. It would not surprise me to see one of Riquelme, Barrios or even Molina linked in the next day or so if Felix ends up being too expensive. De Paul maybe, Argentine teammate of Enzo.

I didn’t know I was able to do a hysterical laugh until this minute. You couldn’t have two more different profiles than Felix and Samu, which just goes to show its all about money and has nothing to do with squad building. We’re already struggling to fit Nkunku and Palmer into the team and you’re adding Felix to that? Basically we’re giving them 30 million or whatever to make them take Gallagher off our hands. Man I miss football from before it was ALL about money

And what does this mean for Carney?  I like him think he’s got potential but now he’s most likely out of the picture for an admin signing.  I don’t know who or why I should support/back any of our players anymore, as they’re most likely going to be playing for a rival in 12 months.

I’m sick of this merry go round of players.   I don’t have a clue what’s going on and god knows what the players think.  I’d don’t have the energy to get excited at any signings no more.  It like supporting a different team every year.

Always rated Joao Felix's talent, I really wanted us to sign him last season. The issue is that he is one of those players that has all of the talent, but struggles to bring it out of himself. I feel like it's a mental thing.

100% agreed and it’s a completely different team to the one he played with. He was pretty much our only creative attacker that time. Now we are absolutely stacked with creativity, it really could bring the best out of him.

I genuinely believe there is a world class player in him, he’s just never had the right club. He really messed it up for himself by joining Atletico Madrid, there really wasn’t a worse club he could have joined.

Says who? He has a £250k/w contract that he extended for a further 7yrs before he came to us on loan, with 5yrs still to run. His low wages at Barca was for accounting reasons, and Atletico were covering the remainder of his wages. At some point he was earning £8k/w at Barca, and it was then moved to £80k/w during his loan.
If he moves here we will either have to cover those wages, or Atletico will reach an agreement to pay him off.

Apparently we tried to buy 50 per cent of Omorodian. I’m not even sure how that works. But the player was offended and walked away.

I read 50% of his naming/media rights.

Not sure, translation wasn't that good either.

I like that if that's true...I have no idea how he will fit in this squad or if he'll be any good. I don't even know if we actually need him in this bloated squad. I'm just happy if we don't pay stupid money for him or his wages.

Aren’t part owned players against premier league rules?  Wasn’t that what all the kerfuffle was about the Tevez Mascherano signings.

Yeah. No idea how that even works. I reckon something’s changed regarding Osimhen and we’ve walked away from the Omorodian deal. Also Guiu has likely done well enough in preseason games that we don’t need two raw young strikers.

Wonder how solid our interest is in Felix though. Looks like we can test out Atletico’s stance on some other players of theirs. They got any decent centre backs they might want to sell?

Joao Felix still young and has a top dog as his agent.

If we can sign him for something in the region of 35M it is a very good deal.

With Saudi Arabia organising the WC in ten years it means they will continue to pump endless money into transfers for the foreseeable future.

If Felix does not work here in a few years Mendes will move him to Saudi for huge money.

Can we just cancel all of this nonsense and have Conor back? Offer him the armband and 150k a week for 15 years and be done with it.

As we saw with Trev, contracts don't mean anything to this ownership. They'll give him the contract then ban him from entering the first team facilities. Probably why he didn't sign the extension they offered.

Ooooh, I quite like getting parts of players, we can build a perfect one!

There are so many concerns and questions I have over this. Mainly around the number of creative players and marescas principles.

I’m guessing sterling is going to be sold?

if we play with a striker, Guiu or Jackson for example, then 3 of nkunku, palmer, Neto, felix, madueke and mudryk linking up popping the ball about with Caicedo and Enzo behind being the glue is exciting. apart from nkunku the other 5 are 25 and under and nkunku is still young, so if as expected Paez and estevao are going to jump into the first team that’s 8 players for 3 positions? And that’s not considering George or Carney which would take it up to 10. It would be potentially special to watch the link up play between them.

which brings me on to the other major question thing for me is the tactics. Maresca looks like he wants his team in a 4-3-3 with the wingers high and wide one midfielder holding getting support from an inverted fullback and two midfielders who are between “8s”and “10s”.  Not a 4-2-3-1. So if he plays this system I’d say palmer and nkunku are musts but if either of them are on the wing they aren’t going to be hugging the touchline to stretch play, I’d actually say. And felix isn’t that profile either.

in short, felix doesn’t look like he suits any of the positions in a bloated squad and I can’t understand why he’s being targeted.

How do you buy 50% of a player, buying the better foot? Just signed Neto, how are we going to fit Felix in the system on top of what we already got. Neto and Felix aren't going to come here as squad players, unless Enzo is a top man manager, he's going to have ( already have) hard tasks in hand to keep everyone content.

Clearlake seem to be obsessed with doing deals any deal will do.

Madness, and as for Stewart & Winstanley

Why didnt all these issues appear on their radar sooner?

Dont they know whats going on?

On the plus side. If one of Pochettino's only good decisions (not signing him last summer) are ageing well in plain sight hopefully his reputation goes through the roof and one of our rivals fall for it.

I normally agree with you Petre but not in this case. João Felix would be a bloody awful signing. Talented for sure but the laziest motherf**ker I've ever seen on a football pitch. Absolutely would not work in Maresca's system which requires huge work rate from every player, especially the attackers.

Horrible player.

In rgds to tactics, I watched the last game again, vs inter. At times he only had both cb's behind the ball with cucu going in midfield and gusto hugging the touchline.

I know we are all basing his tactics on what he did at Leicester but I think he sees better potential with this lot and isn't as rigid as we all think. Only time will tell, once we see how we play a few games, but it was different (and crazy imho) the way our cbs played the last game. I really want to give the guy the benefit of doubt and see how he does with better but inexperienced players.
