July 2, 20242 yr We'll be scrambling to ship him off on loan every summer for the remainder of his contract after next season. Baffling signing.
July 2, 20242 yr Looks more similar in style to Mason than Conor imho, a player who can play as a box to box #8 or #10. Didn't see a lot of the Championship last season but he stood out during Leicester's relegation season. Edited July 2, 20242 yr by the special one
July 2, 20242 yr Jeez ffs, give the kid a chance, Maresca knows better than any of our players, and will no exactly what he can do, I watched quite a bit of him last season, and his quality is obvious, he’s a real player that can play, just you doubters watch, when Gallagher goes he’ll be more ready than say Lavia……..
July 2, 20242 yr Presuming he’s not expecting a starting position but can help get Maresca’s ideas across, then I'm not against it at all.
July 2, 20242 yr I think people are really underestimating him, the Drinkwater comparisons are beyond unfair but nothing less than I expect from the doom mongers on here.

July 3, 20242 yr We bought Drinkwater to compliment N'Golo. I think we should buy N'golo to compliment this buy. Full circle, let's go!
July 3, 20242 yr Welcome! Good luck and excited to see what you can bring. Nice to have a midfielder in the side again that knows where the goal is!
July 3, 20242 yr If people are amazed at how much of a work force Gallagher has been then this signing should make everyone very pleased, this is a proper PL signing for us, had Klopp taken him everyone would have been mindblown how he finds such players...

Hes not an Italian/Spanish/German lad so immediately that means some will judge him ridiculously harshly unfortunately, For the past 18 months many fans have demanded we stop signing young players, bring in players to fit the managers system with experience. This is literally that signing, yet apparently its just simply not good enough.
July 3, 20242 yr That's what I keep saying...even though I don't know the guy or how he plays, apart from the clip in this thread. He knows the system. So he can help the team adjust and transition into it, and hes at least got pubic hair and experience in the Premier league. The other stuff posted above, like being a work force like Gallagher, for me makes this deal even sweeter. We aren't breaking the bank and the amount of games being played by teams is increasing...I don't see why ppl are moaning.

Chelsea were the only player in for him. Klopp/ Liverpool/ Sloth didnt want him, Newcastles Del boy manager didnt want him... He was relegated from the Premiership and no one wanted to buy him... Despite as some said above he was standout in that side. Journeyman signing, on a par with the Sidwell side of things for me. If he sets the premiership ablaze, i'll be amazed. Hope to see it, but really dont expect anything. Dont see improvements with any of our signings this summer over whats been let go. Im in extreme hope mode already for the season, hope pre season calms my nerves and the opening game sets the pace... but ive got all my fingers and toes crossed.

All is cause of Maresca that much is clear. He stayed there, won the championship and is reunited with Maresca now. Klopp is leaving and Liverpool didn't sign anyone as of yet.

However, looks like he uses that inverted full back shenanigans that seems to be the flavour of the month. I'd imagine something like the below: Sanchez Reece Fofana Colwill Cucurella Enzo Caicedo KDH Palmer Jackson Nkunku Sanchez Fofana Colwill Cucurella Reece Enzo Palmer Caicedo KDH Nkunku Jackson Complete guess work. I would have thought Madueke would have thrived as a touchline winger and Palmer moved more central but the signing of KDH seems to hint at that not being the case. Also i'm not too sure Nkunku is the best fit out wide, but he's better than Mudryk and Sterling is possibly leaving so i've stuck him there. Wouldn't shock me to see Jackson wide left running the channels too. Could see Colwill at left back with someone like Disasi or Tosin in the middle. Guess we won't know until the first pre-season.

July 3, 20242 yr Maresca may use a different formation to Leicester. Edited July 3, 20242 yr by ozboy

I think too many fans see everything as black and white in football now, "what once was will always be" type of thing. Managers can and do change, a good one will look at his resources and come up with the plan based on that, rather than have a "system" and bodge players into it.

Apologies for the pedantry but i can't help it. Surely a player that spent 15 years or more at one club and then leaves to join only his second club, cannot be classed as journeyman. Whether he makes it here or not only time will tell. Drinkwater I was all for because i thought he provided the platform for Kante to shine. He turned out sh*t cos Kante could shine all on his own. Kovacic I was meh over cos he was made of glass but then I would have had him back last season in a heartbeat. Nobody knows really how these players will turn. I remember the WHU fans forum where Uncle Harry had to explain to the Neanderthal West Ham fans that "fat" Frank would end up going to the very top. That aged well for them. If the guy wants to work hard, keep himself fit and provide a positive contribution then i am all for it. Providing he doesn't prevent Carney from blossoming 😁

Adapting systems, resources and tactics to combat an evolving opposition and then developing in-game circumstances. That's chaos ball man!

Or maybe palmer is seen as one of the 3 with 2 players for each position and palmer and hall, Caicedo and Gallagher, Enzo and Lavia as the midfield options 6 players for 3 positions?
