Can we maybe avoid making the same mistake repeatedly? How can the SDs possibly be using data to make signings like Garnacho, when all the data tells you to do is put the cheque book away and run a mile as fast as you can in the opposite direction !

We have wingers at the club - attacking mids and we are good in this area - Maduke, Neto, Sancho, Palmer - Felix and Nkunku? - we have some yoof product here - George - and in the summer two kids arriving from South America. We also have the accidental drug addict - though not sure what is happening with him. Kellyman? if fit - we paid 20 million quid for him - although who knows what he is like. Chukwuemeka likewise - a great talented attacking mid. Napoli have had a £50million plus add-ons bid for Garnacho rejected and are now reportedly in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for Karim Adeyemi, potentially worth up to €50m (£42m). I am not the biggest fan of Adeyemi - he is incredibly fast - but he would be a better option for us imho than Garnacho. IF Garnacho was any good there is no way United would sell him. 50 million quid - who are we in a bidding war with? Wait until the summer and if we still have a vacancy then we can look at all the possibilities - there are a lot of wingers and attacking mids that come on the market. So many lads full of potential and promise. We could look at Omari Hutchinson at Ipswich etc. What we need the most is an experienced world class Centre Back and a Goalkeeper. There aren’t many around and certainly won’t move here for £150k/w
January 23, 20251 yr Simple Jack starts tonight if anyone’s interested in seeing if they can spot what the sporting directors see in him. Don’t think I can bring myself to watch it personally.

Ah come on Sexyfootball, you are being way too negative. Let's think positive about this and be happy. Welcome Alejandro Garnacho! Think I will just call him Nach.

Don't wish harm anyone, but a sneaky little hamstring injury would go down a treat, save us from ourselves, this is one the most mind boggling transfers, I just don't get it at all. Even with Mudryk out, we still have loads of wingers available at least at the same or higher level. Sign a f**king striker, and bring back a centre midfielder from loan. It's really not hard. How are we affording £60m on a 5th/6th choice winger, when we couldn't pay Osimhen his wages in the summer. Hoping this doesn't go through.

It's the money that makes it look dodgy. £60m gets you into a conversation over a highly regarded striker. Gets you a Sesko I reckon, or gets you close. Whilst I don't particularly rate him Garnacho on a similar deal as the Sancho one, and I can kind of see why they'd take a punt, but £60m represents a marquee signing, in this window. If we suddenly see links to Chilwell or Nkunku on loan in the coming days it will stink the place out. Edited January 23, 20251 yr by WhiteWall
January 23, 20251 yr I think the most maddening thing here, and is enough to send someone into a Joker-like frenzy is, United want him out asap, because he’s bang average and they want to win things again, but ‘asap’ because of how toxic he is as a person. Napoli have BAILED, nobody wants him and the owners want him gone asap. Therefore, we are in a ONE HORSE race, there is nobody on the track with us, and yet, we’re talking £60m! This is the worst deal in the history of this football club, bar none, not even a close contender with this one. Games gone, Chelsea’s gone.
January 23, 20251 yr Number 9 is still free right? Let's give him that and tell him he is our Batistuta! Or 7 and tell him he is our Argie CR7.

January 23, 20251 yr Dead against this happening. I feel the same about this deal as when we went in for Gordon. Gordon has proven he’s much better than I thought he was. I only hope I’m as wrong again with Medusa.

It's possible that the board see him as a forward/striker, rather than a winger in the current system. Garnacho doesn't have a great dribbling style, he lacks close control and is often rushed in his touch so rarely keeps the ball close to his body, but he is also not particularly strong or large so cannot shield the ball physically either. The one attribute he does have is raw speed, but as we've seen with Mudryk that is pretty much useless at this level without one of the above too. He is a high-energy player who could get a lot of goals if he focused on his finishing and running, but he hasn't showed that side of his game either really.

I don’t see him getting many minutes on the wing so began to think of where he could play. No 9 is a possibility I suppose.
