Haven't seen any topics about this before im just wondering what's everyones favourite cult TV series?

For example:

Lost

Heroes

24

Flash Forward

Fringe

Prison Break

And what ever you can think of....

Has to be a mixture of 24/Lost for me, really looking forward too the last season of lost in the beginning of feb.

24 is thinly disguised propoganda promoting the use of torture in order to generate support US tactics at AbuGhraib, Gitmo etc., both past and going forward. Human rights and legal precedent go out the window. Escapism is fine, but this is a time where these really matter. Keifer is a tool. Not only for the show's purpose, but just a tool. Half-wit C-list son of a great actor.

My fav is "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" on FX. This show is Seinfeld on Jameson whisky.

Can something become "cult" as soon as it starts?

To me there are a few good series in that list, but I wouldn't say they've reached the level of "cult" just yet.

Cult tv series for me is:

Fawlty Towers

Monty Pythons Flying Circus

Allo Allo

Blackadder

Mr Bean

Probably some more that I've forgotten.

True, The X-Files is one of the biggest cult series. Don't think I mentioned any american series :unsure:

Still, Mr. f*ckin' Bean surely is a cult classic. One doesn't even have to like it to know that. Personally I've seen some of the episodes atleast 20 times (probably more) and I can watch them atleast 20 times more.

Every tv show named on this thread made since 1990 owes something to Twin Peaks.

'Event TV' really started here. The manner big tv shows were produced, and crucially, marketed , changed after Twin Peaks. Its lasting influence simply cannot be underestimated.

Any TV show that has tried to move away from a traditional self-contained episode format to longer story arcs looks to Twin Peaks for pointers. The X Files for examples simply would not have happened if it wasnt for Twin Peaks. Ditto things like Buffy and Angel. Look at the clash between reason/logic/science and belief/intuition/spirituality in Lost. Where has that come from ?

The influence of the show can possibly still be found in major facets of the entertainment industry, including music, 20 years on.

If you have never seen it or dont know what its all about, its hard to know where to start really....

Its strange, beautiful, weird, surreal, hilarious,and in places very, very scary.

Must get the DVDs out again soon.

Bizarrely, I watch/watched (in the case of Prison Break) every single one of those programmes. Lost and 24 are the cult tv shows, but Fringe has the huge potential to be.

Do sitcoms count? If so, I nominate Friends and Scrubs.

EDIT: Oh and Top Gear. That'll always be a classic in my books.

i had forgotten all about that show, and your right in saying every show mentioned owes a lot to it. though i still have no idea what it was about or what happened in it. just a very weird show. but brilliant.

The Young Ones. Two seasons, politically loaded, live music, hilarious, you actually liked none of the characters but loved them all. Spawned a load of fringe comedian's careers. Ended when it should have

the prisoner Revolver

Rescue me...a far funnier, yet darker version of london's burning...disgracefully dropped by Sky after the third series...thankfully I have managed to download the last two series to keep up...I'm sure if Sky had marketed the show properly it would have been as big as all the other shows mentioned, particularly with the male audience

I'm glad there's another fan out there. Although I didn't think the film was much good, they tried to pack far too much storyline into it, but that's just because they cancelled the show way before they were finished.

I'm amazed no-one has mentioned The Wire or Turtle's Progress. My personal favourite is Carnivale

anyone remember Lucky Fella..Del Boy before he was Del Boy ?

of late though about the only thing i tried to watch every episode of was Life on Mars..Gene Hunt proper 70s Old Bill :)
