It looks like he'll be here for the duration of his contract. On SSN it said he said he has no intention of leaving and is looking forward to working with Jose, he'll see out the five and a half years.

I like that he wants to stay, but again with the s**t about honouring his contract. It's cos of the money he's on and the fact we win trophies, it's nothing to do with his contract. He had one at Liverpool he didn't honour so it's all a bit awkward.

Of course it's because of the money, like it is for every single other player we have.

It's not his fault he was given a ridiculous 5 year contract worth stupid amounts of money.

He's only talking about the contract bit because he know's where his bread is buttered, not one other club out there will take him on those wages. He knows if he was to move he will be on a lesser wage which isn't what he wants right now, he's going to do what Bridge did to City.

Why do people automatically assume that footballers are only in it for the money? Yeah sure, your theory may be correct, but have you thought that he may genuinely want to fight for his place in a team where he has a lot to prove, under a new manager who is widely regarded as the best in the business, with a squad that has the potential to go on and win everything. If he wants to see out his contract and fight for his place that doesn't bother me in the slightest, we know for sure Jose wont be starting any passengers this season.

If Jose decides he doesn't want/need Torres or Torres isn't delivering he won't play him. Simple as that. And i can't see Torres being happy on the bench. Last time he was benched a lot he had plenty to say about it after we won the CL.

Torres is going to want to play seeing as the World Cup is next summer.

If Jose tells him he won't be picking him I would expect him to try to engineer a move away.

It's all going to depend on whether we sign a new striker or else we will be playing with Ba, Torres and Lukaku next season and I would fancy Torres to still get plenty of playing time if that were the case.

I think he'd leave if Jose tells him he wont be first choice

btw, a bit off topic, but has anyone ever thought how hard it must be for managers to tell a player they no longer have a future at the club? certainly a lot of managers couldnt care less but i think its a very hard thing to do. i know some will say they can feel no pity for someone who earns as much as pro footballers do but still . . .

for example i think torres and mikel should leave, but if i were the one who was supposed to tell them that, it would be quite an ordeal

We have never really flourished with two strikers upfront though, not in recent years. Unless u count Drogba and Anelka a few seasons ago. If we get Cavani and he starts banging them in and Jose gives Lukaku a crack of the whip and HE plays well, where would that leave Torres? Yes he cost us 50 million but one of the first things i imagine that Jose said to Roman was that he won't have his hand forced.

If Cavani comes on huge wages then I don't see how Torres can stay. Unless he turns down the chance to move and is willing to just sit on the bench or in the stands.

If Jose doesn't want to tell Torres I happily will.

I honestly reckon we'll have him for at least one more season. Or maybe till January if by that point things aren't going his way.

He's had his way for quite a while now. The majority of fans supported him, Drogba left, he got the fat man, what else should he get? He's a flop, worse than Shevchenko. He doesn't deserve any more chances.

What about Hasselbaink and Gudjohnsen?

how many goals did Torres get last season 20 plus wasn't it?? defo a flop lol

Torres has 15 goals in the League in 2 and a half seasons out of 82 matches   ::clap2::

Of the top of my head, his goals this season came against Everton, Benfica, Rubin, Steuea, Aston Villa, Nordsjealland, Shakhtar, Newcastle, Reading, Sunderland, Arsenal, Brendtford, Leeds, Monterrey, Wolves. I might've missed the odd opponent out but not stellar opposition is it?

Most of them were against low quality opposition. This is why he flourished in the Europa League. Champions League / Premier League is entirely different.

Low quality..wouldn't call Benfica low quality but that is not the whole story. His cup numbers for us are okay to good and his league numbers depressing.

8 goals from 36 appearances in the league
