I think we needed Ba & Lukaku (1st & 2nd choice strikers) going forward ... not gonna' happen tho' ... lost opportunity by the Club, yet again!

Now that the paying fans have a clear comparasion week in, week out (Ba vs Torres) the booing may only get worse?

Plus, I suspect this thread, at times may go into melt down?

Can't see us coming back from 2-0 ... The first half, in particular we deserved more ... Ba had an instant impact.

Very unlucky with the disallowed goal too. A strange game to watch!

Things are so desperate with Torres now the Club need an emergency meeting to immediately discuss ... I doubt they will ...

I think Torres can play the rest of the season as a back up striker, in fact some of his better games have been coming on for Drogs... Ba can't completely carry the role.. so Torres for Europe, Ba for domestic.. it is not difficult one really is it.

I think Torres is better in Europe as a rule anyway, and he must at least think I am in the shop window now so extra motivation.

Torres is not as bad as some make out.. however he is clearly not a 50M main striker anymore, and for me, to be completely honest and humble it took Ba to show me the light. The contrast was there for all to see last night.

As for Lukaku coming back.. he has done okay at WBA, not as good as Sturridge did at Bolton and look what happened there...We expect a lot from our strikers because we were spoilt with Drogs so I dont think Lukaku is ready to  solve our problems, maybe one day.

Did the club say that Lukaku will not be brought back this season.

It has been confirmed that Lukaku is staying at the Hawthorns for the rest of the season.

Only a good thing. While one can't argue is is excelling there, he's not quite ready to come back to us. I say one more loan after this one and we should get him back.

In the mean time, Torres can do one. Ba Ba Ba innit.

Another poor show last night tbh! I can't understand why he drifts out wide so much.... he's a centre forward what is he doing?! His confidence is clearly rock bottom I don't see anyway he can come back from this!

I am fed up with comments about his confidence is low,he drifts out wide etc etc

The bloke is sh*te.

Scouse sh*te.

Lampard oozes class yet cannot get a regular spot in our team.

We a crying out for class and experience.

Yet every week we have to put up with this ponce ripping the heart out of our team.

We should banish him Malouda style to the stiffs

ANY player from the u21 set up will give more

Torres simply has to leave as soon as possible now.

When the fans start to boo you then you know your time is up and I’d assume Roman, the board and the man himself will know this.

I am not going to call him names and act like a petulant fanny because it’s clear he is not what he once was and never will be again. It’s hardly his fault he keeps getting picked.

It’s sh*te it has not worked out for him and us these past 2 years but now is the time to separate and both parties can have a chance to redeem themselves.

Plus if Robbie hadn't have stopped him from taking a penalty in the CL final

we would be looking at a mid table finish this season, no Hazard.Oscar or Ba!

LOL

What's the lottery numbers mate?

Robbie clearly knew that Torres wasnt good enough and couldnt be trusted.

I think thats why he dropped him on his last game, i think Robbie knew he was on his way out and on the last game played the team he really wanted to play.

If only Roman would stop getting involved. Just write the cheques Roman and keep your nose out of the who actually plays. Roman turning down Falcao in the summer because he wanted Torres to be the main man must have been one of the most stupid things he has ever done.

I don't see what possible justification Benitez can find for his performance again last night. He did pretty much everything wrong. I think I remember he held up the ball once and he also got us a freekick on the edge of the area. Thats about it. A remarkable improvement from the QPR game though. Ba did twice as much as Torres in 1/8th of the time. Ba should start every game possible, and we either need to get someone in on loan until the end of the season or promote Feruz.

LOL

What's the lottery numbers mate?

All I know is that his number is up !

Dave Mitchell was the worst striker ever to play for us but he gave 100%

and never sulked. That is the benchmark for me. Anelka came with the

reputation of 'Le Sulk' but gave everything for the cause in whatever frame

of mind.

I said I will never go to another match whilst Torres is here, I am good to my word.

I have been to 8 games this season that's my lot.

We now have to look at how to move him on, last night when Ba came on the difference was like night and day, however moving him on may not be so easy.

Lets look at the maths.

Torres is Alledgedly on £175k per week thats £9.1m Per year (god thats frightening) Their is not another club in the world that is going to be willing to pay that to him.

If we sold him what could we realistically expect to get for him, I'm going to base this on his shirt sales and not his talent, if he went back to Athletico Madrid I think we could get £15m

If Athletico agreed to pay him £100K per week and we picked up the other £75k (I know,I know) he would be on the same money as he is now, and might have a chance to start scoring again, I said MIGHT.

So if he stayed here he would cost us £27.3m in wages if his wage reports are true, if he goes and we could get the £15m after we've paid the £75k per week we would be £3.3m in profit.

Obviously we would have to write off the £50m fee, but that wouldn't be the first time we've written off a huge fee.

Now whose got the number for the Athletico president so we can all try to convince them that this is the way forwards.

I still won't slag him off personally and I don't believe that he doesn't care, its just not worked out and it's time to cut our ties.

Madrid are in the sh*t money wise so I can't see them offering more to Torres than what Falcao earns at present tbh.

No one is going to pay Torres 100k or over unless it's a team in Russia or Asia.

We are going to be paying for him for some time to come I'd imagine even if he does move somewhere else.

Chelsea will never learn about giving players stupid wages, look at Malouda still earning a mint while sitting on his bum.

It's mental.

Watch out for the 'new' money clubs in Russia and China, they would kill for a 'name' who would raise the profile of their club.

Don't forget if Torres finishes with 20+ goals this season, which is certainly feasible, that would look impressive to a team/country that doesn't read Chelsea forums or, come to that the English press.

I think the fee will be the issue, the wages to some of these clubs is nothing.

Lets hope so anyway.

The problem would be then Torres himself who has 2 young kids.

Would he want to raise them in Asia or Russia?

The problem we have is the teams that would be stupid enough to buy him would not be the ones i think Torres would be willing to play for.

Seriously? Find me ONE person who had a go at you for calling Torres crap? In the match thread you referred to "all you Torres fanboys". What f**king fanboys?

Torres was sh*tE. Torres was sh*tE before he was "rested" and he was sh*tE again tonight. Nobody is saying otherwise. The only "defence" of Torres for weeks now has been against the almost unrelenting stream of personal abuse.

I also noted you refer to shedpensioner as a hypocrite for his criticism towards Lukaku. Sorry mate that's bullsh*t. Harsh or not, rightly or wrongly, agree or disagree, shedpensioner was referring to Lukaku's footballing ability only. Torres gets "Alice", "Ladyboy", "that c**t", "that f**king blonde" and so on and so on and so on. He is very probably the worst bit of transfer business in the entire history of the club, but massive failure or not, that still doesn't excuse the level of personal abuse directed towards him.

I hope I've made that clear. There's a massive difference between perfectly justified criticisms of his failure as a footballer and personal attacks. And you don't have to be a "fanboy" to object to those personal attacks.

Call me a fanboy and I'll laugh myself silly.

Now, when even the great Tommy D, the God of personal abuse, the master of the expletive-laden scouser put-down, the Spielberg of the well-crafted personal rant is saying that the personal abuse has gone too far, you people all really should know that it is true.

I cringed when he went off and got booed, by all means cheer loud for Ba coming on, but why bother booing Torres ? it should be Benitez being booed for picking him.

There was a load of booing from the MH, but a lot around me in the East Upper (including me) were shouting abuse at the interim for taking so f**king long to do what we could all see was needed from before half-time.

Actually, just before half-time, I called down "Excuse me, waiter, I'll have a number 8 and a number 29 please".  The waiter replied "Si, senor, but the kitchen, she is verrr busy.  It may be some time before I am able to bring your order.  Please have another plateful of guff while you wait"

The salary issue may not be such an issue. Torres is on £175k per week. That lands him in the 50% tax bracket, so he should be taking home  £87,500 per week. i am not sure what the tax system is like in spain, but it could well be that he can earn more than he is currently earning, even by taking a pay cut. Just a thought.

Does Torres transfer fee a factor in regards to FFP? I mean, does the fact that he was purcahsed prior to FFP mean that we dont need to worry about the loss effecting our balance sheet? If it does count, if we keep him, then presumably the transfer fee is amotised over the duration fo the 5 year contract, yet if we let him go for free now, the 50 million would be amortised over 2 years, hence having a bigger hit on FFP figures. I dont know much about this, so i could be compeltely wrong... but if correct, then it is something that may have to be considered.

I agree that finding a taker for torres wouldnt be an issue. There are team is Russia, China, the Middle East, even maybe turkey who could all afford torres, and more importantly would likely want to buy him for the marketing status  that he comes with....

Now whether Torres himself is willing to drop down to such a level is another thing. On the basis of his performances for us, i think he should consider it....but whether a footballers ego  (in general, ot specifically Nando's) would allow it is another thing.

Not sure about the FFP implications because he did sign before they were introduced, but I believe in spain the higher tax bracket is about 40%

Interesting comparison:

After last night, Demba Ba has play roughly 100 minutes for Chelsea whilst Torres has now made 100 appearances for us.

I can honestly say that, in that 100 minute spell, Ba has shown more promise than Torres in his entire tenure with us so far.

Torres simply has to leave in the summer. However, there are only 2 scenarios in which this could be possible: Either Atletico romantically ask for Torres as a 'makeweight' in a potential deal for Falcao, or another thick-as-sh*t, Russian oligarch that owns a fooball club - such as Zenit St Petersburg, Anzhi Machachkala etc -  has a similar wet dream over restoring Torres to his former glory. Both scenarios seem unlikely, so I fear that we may be stuck with Torres. That really scares me.

Surely last night must have been some sort of wake up call for the board/Abramovich.

Demba Ba did in ten minutes what Torres couldn't do in 80. Ba is so much more capable at the moment you can barely even compare the two and quite frankly it was embarrassing that we were deperate for a goal and that the FSW left it untill 80 minutes to make the change.

The fact Torres got booed off is fairly significant I would say- I can only really see it getting worse from this point on. I don't agree with the booing at all but every Chelsea fan watching last night would have reached boiling point with the frustration forced upon us by the FSW refusing to make the blindingly obvious change that was needed.

Torres has no future at Chelsea, the sooner Abramovich accepts this the better and we can all move on.

I think that if Ba starts all games from now on the club will obviously benefit and the fans won't resent Torres.

If Torres continues to start games then the club will suffer and the inevitable resentment towards Torres could grow into something rather ugly that I don't think I will have seen before at Chelsea.
