March 27, 201610 yr Great defender for us in the past, but this last season he has been quite a shambles. Age is definitely catching up to him and I feel its good Zouma will slowly usurp him Zouma's already better, Happy's fast become one of my favourite players.
April 23, 201610 yr Still cant get over this headless chicken defending. https://gifs.com/gif/wpxl3w If youve ever been to the butchers in certain countires, this is exactly how unpinned chickens run away after their heads are chopped off.. Edited April 23, 201610 yr by Orpington_Blue
April 25, 201610 yr I am confident that Cahill will make a significant contribution to the club as a senior player. His presence could help us retain some consistency next year.
May 16, 201610 yr Got picked in the provisional Eng squad, with only two other central defenders (Smalling, Stones).I'd say it's him and Smalling for the tournament then.. I've never thought he was an outstanding player but if he has a good few games for England it can can only help his confidence coming into next season.

He is more likely to come home totally wrecked and in a media sh*tstorm. Looking at that team, cb is the only position where things can go wrong and my bet is they will.
May 16, 201610 yr I seem to be in the minority thinking that Cahill played quite well for us overall this season and saved some important goals that I thought were destined to go in.
May 16, 201610 yr I have always appreciated Cahill, Mr 110%. Give him curly hair, an Alice band, pink boots and Cahilliniho written on his back and some would love him more. Mostly they are the people who rated Luiz. A player who couldn't ever spell DEFEND, let alone do it.

September 5, 20169 yr Will he be the one to make way for Luiz, or will JT be rested more and rotated around?

September 6, 20169 yr Premier League, Champions' League, FA Cup, Uefa Cup, Carling Cup - won it all. In just 3 years at the Club. And the stick he gets! Edited September 6, 20169 yr by Kante Conte

Apart from the uefa cup, John O Shea swept up in the same trophies in about five years. I think Cahill is a good squad player to have around, but as far as starters go, I think we should do better, that or i was just too spoiled with Carvalho, Gallas and Alex (even David on form) being JTs partners.

Hmmm... Was John o Shae as regular a feature in the team as Cahill has been for Chelsea, though? Cahill was the standout defender in the 14/15 title win. I agree. Even if he isn't a Gallas or Carvalho, he is still a good defender imho. He gets a lot of harsh criticism. If the club had bought in a starting level defender in the window, and a recovered Zouma was to partner him, I would be very happy to have Cahill as a third choice/challenging centre back. He would want to play regular, though, I suspect.

Turnball and Van dear Sar both have champions league medals. The medals is the only comparison like O Shea and Cahill. I don't think Chelsea was spoiled at all with Alez or Luiz. They wasn't upto Cahills standard at his best specially in the league title win. Cahill and Terry was quality.

Not convinced. 1 hour ago, Ernie_blue said: Turnball and Van dear Sar both have champions league medals. The medals is the only comparison like O Shea and Cahill. Alex in his first three season's was a lot better than what Cahill has been for us, Gary I thought was the weak link when we played aggressive football under Jose, although he was very good after we went a bit more defensive in both Jose's campaigns. He was signed as a squad player, that's how he should have stayed, I admire his commitment but that alone shouldn't guarantee a starting place.

For me he should never have been more than a squad player. I think he's massively overrated, I think he's a case of someone making almost optimal use of their ability rather than being a truly talented player. Still, he's not done bad out of joining us, he's won a lot more than he would have if he had stayed at Bolton!
September 7, 20169 yr Luiz is only a good defender, is that what Chelsea aspire too for 30m? I don't think Cahill is the best defender in the world, do I think his better than Luiz and Ivan, that would be a yes. Reason is the trust and partnership between him and Terry. Terry doesn't need to be playing CB with someone where your having to look over your shoulder constantly because you don't trust the guy. Going forward I would play Zouma because the more he can learn of Terry the better.
September 7, 20169 yr He had a poor season last season, I still think he's been very good for us during his stint. I always remember the mans tackle in the Europa Legaue final, in injury time, incredible challenge.
September 11, 20169 yr Just now, havelschayes said: lmao he literally tweeted the incident #justiceforgaz I take it he's not very happy then......rightfully so. If i was in Cahill's position, i would have been booked for sure because i would be letting the ref know how i felt about that decision. I would have been even more pissed at the way the ref is reacting there, like he was so sure it wasn't a foul.
September 11, 20169 yr Cahill is getting a lot of the blame for this but i personally don't think Cahill did anything wrong. He may have invited pressure but he was in complete control, Fer was actually nowhere near the ball and made no attempt to actually win the ball. All Fer was attempting to do was hack Cahill down, and he succeeded, he even got away with it too.
