The John Obi Mikel Goal Scoring Thread

Featured Replies

I like Mikel, he's very good player and in my opinion he need to focus more on assists instead of goals. He might has poor record of goals, but it doesn't make him a bad player. You won't find players like him, maybe 2-3 and one of them will be at his class. He's playing very smart, his passes are great, and his defensive skills are great. We all just don't rate him much, but we should to. He's a part of our strong wall, and I like how patient he is, he's always motivated and always putting effort into his game.

Some chelsea fans don't realise how lucky they are to have a willing squad player in the side who is capable back up to what we have got. Sure, replace him with someone 'better' like Khedira/Vidal/pogba. Watch the ego's throw toys out the pram when 4 doesn't go into 2 (CDM role).

Put it this way, he is an average but reliable player who has never grumbled once about lack of opportunities and I for one consider him an ambassador for the club he plays for. Remember this chap played for chelsea whilst his dad was being held hostage in Nigeria. You can never be too grateful for the lack of an ego in today's football.

Well said ::clap2:: .. The fella does at least deserve our support and respect, he's never done anything not to.

Oh imagine that, DKW is pissing people off? Policing the forum again?

I can't believe this guy is still allowed on here.

um...this is a thread concerning Mikel & not an agenda/grievance opportunity for you. If you want to contribute to the thread concerning its subject then feel free but don't use it to jump on a poster because you feel that you have been slighted in the past.

for gods sake,he is a multi- millionaire with very limited ability.sorry about his father,an 'ambassador' wise up.he is just in a long line of over paid average and in his case below average players.

I heard Loz pays well.

you heard wrong, he's part Scottish remember. They rarely part with money.

I have supreme love for the great John obi. There isn't many other players I would feel safer with when needing to hold onto a lead. Mikel will be vital for us if we coome up against someone like Real Madrid in the Champions League. He might not be the prettiest, flashiest, but damn is he effective at what he does, and he does it to perfection. Long live the great John Obi

Dkw is not the hero the Shed End deserves, but he's the one that we need.[/quot

are you sure he's not the "hero" we need but the hero we deserve?

anyway, good result. However,Cahill had a bad game, and a blip is becoming a mini trend with him.we are lucky that we are in a poor league again this year.a two horse race is inevitable, with ourselves and city.

I don't think it is a poor league at all, it's just that us and City have improved on last season. There is more quality in the prem this season than there has for the last few years in my opinion.

I'm not saying EPL is the best league, but no where near poor. In other leagues, the top 3 are all set and match by week 25 or even 20, not the EPL. I feel EPL teams are the most result driven, couldn't give a sh1t about playing ugly. I'm no expert on Laliga, but I never understood why lower teams don't defend deep and play route one. Surely they could still lose by 3 goals, but they have a much better chance to steal a point or all 3 on a bad day for their superior opponents. If every team in EPL plays like Arsenal stele , I'm sure we would get more points last season  :laugh2:

I'm guessing you didn't watch La Liga last year

I have deliberately stayed away from the John Obi Mikel debate until now because it's clearly a hot potato for many folk. I feel I have to throw my tuppence worth in now though, tin hat firmly in place awaiting the onslaught.

Putting aside the fact he seems to be a likeable and amiable chap who has never created problems since he's been with us, I have to ask just what he brings to the table player wise ?  Even more so in the last couple of seasons.

A more forgiving person than me might say he is 'laid back' , but hand on heart I just see him as a lazy s*d who more often than not is content to trot or stroll around the pitch doing not very much at all. He was rightly subbed off against a League 2 side last night because he contributed absolutely nothing to the game during his time on the pitch. I'm surprised it took Jose so long to realise that.

When he was bought on as a sub against Man Utd it was a clear sign that we were going to sit back, defend deep and allow them to come at us. So many teams have worked that out now, and the end result was almost inevitable.

I'm not in any way blaming Mikel for the 94th minute equaliser, but it's the message his substitution sends to the opposition that concerns me. They made us pay dearly. I just don't understand the thinking behind it.

It is well known that I have never been one of Mikel's biggest fans but I have gone on record as stating that he is a useful squad player, capable of doing a job in certain situations.

However, his last two appearances don't back that up. He was nothing short of woeful last night in a game where he should have been head & shoulders above the opposition (I know he wasn't the only CFC player - Salah, & Schurrle were equally poor). If he carries on like last night, whereas the likes of Ake are taking their chances and improving all the time (and Ake in particular seems to offer a lot more), then it does appear that JOM's usefulness maybe coming to an end.

To me, it looks like he is a shot player. His confidence is gone and he is more like the torres of midfield right now. He is someone we will struggle to get rid of, and is of little benefit to our team. I do hope we replace him in January. I don't think I could stand the sight of him for another season. Every time I see him on the pitch for us, I feel resentment towards him. I shouldn't feel like that towards any of our own players, but with mikel I have to make an exception. I cannot believe he is still earning what he earns after seeing the way he performs. If an employer had an employee perform like him in any company, in such a lacklustre way, he would be sacked!

Totally agree with the fact his confidence is shot. He's never been the greatest player but he's utterly woeful these days. He literally offers nothing.

The annoying thing for me is him still being a Chelsea player means it harms the development of someone like Ake. There's no way Mikel should be playing over him but he will continue to do so this season.
