July 14, 201511 yr Can't remember claiming that youth is something we desperately need right now but whatever floats your boat I guess. As for RLC I think it's pretty clear, since we are thin in the central midfield area for decent options it would be harsh to rely on RLC should Matic or Fabregas be injured. Mikel has shown over time his inconsistency, but we persist on keeping him, I don't see how it will benefit us but I'll accept it. Ramires in the pivot has never worked really has it, it's brought out the worst in him since Mourinho has came. So yes I think leaving us the only option of playing RLC should Matic or Fabregas be out is a big gamble. Remember we are wanting to win the league again? Ramires was dire even when we payed a 4-3-3. Not sure what has been going on with him for the past year.
July 14, 201511 yr Ramires was dire even when we payed a 4-3-3. Not sure what has been going on with him for the past year. I will let you know....he has little technique.
July 14, 201511 yr I'm sorry to say but I think Mikel is finished at Chelsea. A good example was last season, he contributed little to our title win. Jose even preferred Zouma as an anchorman over Mikel, that should say a lot about what Jose thinks of him. Jose blocked his transfer, that's the complete opposite of him being finished at Chelsea.
July 14, 201511 yr Lol ^ after all the Ozil love he now loves Mikel. I reckon it would take you 2 hours to watch 60 minutes & even then you probably wouldn't figure any of it out.

If Mikel is not be sold in this window (which now looks increasingly likely) then he will figure in our plans for the coming season - he is & always has been an able back up. July 24, 201510 yr Some excellent news to wake up to: "I have two years left on my contract here and want to see them out. I am happy here and we will see what happens. I do want to stay, the manager wants me to stay so I don't have any issues.""The manager has told me he wants me to stay. He said that and I'm pretty happy to stay.""This is going to be my tenth season at the club, next year it will be my 11th. I have been here so long due to the contracts I have signed and I like to be somewhere where I have developed friendships. This is like my family now. Every time I come to work it's like coming into see my family. I know the whole place, the staff, it is going to be a hard place to leave when my contract runs out and then we will see what happens." Bless him, I hope he sees out his career with us.
July 24, 201510 yr Mikel is our second longest serving player, second only to John Terry. Edited July 24, 201510 yr by Zola
July 24, 201510 yr I'd love him to finish his career with us. One rotation appearance at a time - which is no joke considering how strong our team is.
July 24, 201510 yr Don't see why people have a problem with Mikel staying. He loves the club, is our 2nd longest serving player, has loads of experience and is happy being a backup player He's not sh*te, he's actually a decent player and a great option to bring on when we want to close up a game and defend a Lead. Give the guy a break...Bloke gets so much undeserved hate from some fans I'm glad he's staying
July 24, 201510 yr He's our second longest serving player because no other teams makes bids for him. Notting against the chap but when he's on the pitch trotting around like a pony he worries me. Can anyone tell me what he brings to the team besides slowing us down and causing panic because I cant . he plays a nice 5 yard side way pass to be fair. Nice lad and all that but he offers notting. If he stays I'd have no problem. He don't complain that's one plus Edited July 24, 201510 yr by bluegraham
July 24, 201510 yr He's our second longest serving player because no other teams makes bids for him. The various new contracts probably didn't hurt either.
July 24, 201510 yr The various new contracts probably didn't hurt either. True but nobody ever tried to buy him considering he's a sub a good bit. If said what I think about Mikel along time ago on this thread don't fancy repeating myself. I don't rate him at all and for the people who do I really have no issue with. I don't hate the lad he just frustrates me
July 25, 201510 yr Some excellent news to wake up to: Bless him, I hope he sees out his career with us. "I'm happy to be paid for doing nothing"
July 25, 201510 yr I don't hate the lad he just frustrates me No one hates him, people just have a tendency to not let any positive posts go without adding a negative opinion on it =/ As emphasised by the 2 recent posts which added nothing but insults.

July 25, 201510 yr No one hates him, people just have a tendency to not let any positive posts go without adding a negative opinion on it =/ As emphasised by the 2 recent posts which added nothing but insults. It's the truth. Instead of transferring to another club for a first team spot, he's happy to sit on the bench to get paid for basically doing nothing other than coming on the last few minutes of a match. I suppose from his perspective, it's fine by him -- he lives in London and he gets paid millions to play football. But what he's doing, in my own opinion, is petty and shows a definitive lack of ambition. Instead of saying, "I want to fight for a first team spot", he says some drivel like "I have two years left on my contract, I'm set -- I will worry about my future in 2 years". Complete joke in all honesty. I'd rather not call him a leech because he's contributed a lot to this club, but these are his peak years, he should be playing regularly and working hard to cement his place in some other team's icon list, instead, he's just happy to sit on the bench. For me, I can't get behind that nonsense, the young man is basically throwing away his life. If Mourinho had actually cared about him, he would have advised him to find first team football elsewhere.
July 25, 201510 yr So Mikel should leave because he's wasting his career not being first choice and we should sign someone else to to waste their career by not being first choice? Seems legit.
July 25, 201510 yr So Mikel should leave because he's wasting his career not being first choice and we should sign someone else to to waste their career by not being first choice? Seems legit. Well I never said that did I? I'd happily keep someone like Ramires or Moses because they'd be nothing more than backups. However with Mikel, the talent is there, it just needs to be applied properly. In some way, you can kind of compare the situation of Nasri and Mikel. Both are wasting their careers as backups instead of fighting for a first team spot at their respective clubs or some other club. Edited July 25, 201510 yr by Theafonis
July 25, 201510 yr How is Mikel not fighting for a first team place? Surely his presence in the squad is an indication of looking to play for Chelsea. That he is Chelsea's 25th all time appearance maker is surely indicative of how regularly he does play for the club and doesn't just sit picking up his wages all the time?
July 25, 201510 yr i'm happy that mikel is staying. my club's ambition is the priority so if it benefits the club for him to be here then so be it. he might never achieve his true potential like this but does it matter? - he does a job for chelsea. this is the role he's paid for and he's happy with it. i gave up on the whole "wheres the ambition" stuff here when cudicini decided to stick around after he lost his spot to cech. some players just want to be comfortable where they're at. and as long as they perform...what's the issue here? and you can't bring up malouda's situation either as it wasn't the same - jose still sees mikel as a good enough player for an active role in the first squad whereas malouda was seen as complete surplus to requirements, not even good enough for the bench in the eyes of the managers at the time.
