Paul Pogba - Needs to Sign!

Featured Replies

Oscar needs a break. He would be mentally shot after the world cup. I don't see him starting for a while. Having quality depth is also critical. I'm sure if Pogba came in Ramires and Mikel would be shown the door.

Yeah most likely, I think tbh its possible someones gonna be frustrated come January anyway as we know Jose doesn't rotate too often.

Too much is made of Conte's departure FCF. In Italy anything can happen. So Conte's reasoning is we'll lose two players for £90m, I should go. If they are f**ked financially I get it. Are they?

Not sure if you mean just in relation to a potential sale of Pogba but Conte leaving Juventus is huge news...

In his time at the club he only ever lost 7 league games, just won the league for a third successive year and his overall win percentage was nearly 70%

He had no reason to leave and the club had no reason to want rid of him so for him to walk two days into pre-season and be replaced be Allegri who had a disastrous reign at AC Milan is bizarre to say the least.

Why they've gone with Allegri when better coaches are available makes no sense unless he is there to be a yes man and is willing to accept that one or more of the teams best players are about to be sold.

Juventus are probably trying to call the bluff of teams who are after him. If a bid came in for 40+ for him, i don't see how they could not be tempted to sell. If they seriously need new players, but haven't got the finances, and they want to build around Vidal (?), then an offer of that amount would surely tempt them.

He's a really good player, loads of potential still but £60m in my opinion is too much.

The reason I joined this thread though is to say that the title really irritates me.  No he doesn't need to sign regardless of what anyone wants.

This. We don't need anyone

Except for Torres.

I think we should try £40mil-£50mil first, as others have mentioned. We are in a good position atm, since Barcelona spent their money on Suarez, Real Madrid on Kroos + Rodriguez, He won't go back to United, City and PSG have their hands tied by FFP. Next year we would probably have to battle all of them to land Pogba.

I think it's a case of - if we really want him we'll get him.

But that will be our whole summer transfer budget blown, so chances are we'll sit on it until towards the end of the window to keep our options open should a better opportunity come along, and we'll be trying every trick to drive the price down in the meantime.

Yeah I guess it depends on what other players Jose wants to sign. We have spent a reported 74.8mill so far on our 3 signins, and received a reported 58mill in return.

If you factor in other potential likely sales such as Marin (5mill), Moses (7mill), Bertrand (8mill), PvA (3mill) and Romeu (4mill) you can add another rough 27mill to our recieved pot, adding another 10mill if the potential Mikel to Inter rumours prove true.

While signing Pogba would put us at around a 40mill loss in buys and sales with all that speculated, would say it would not sop us signing other players for 15mill or under given the new revenue from TV and sponsor deals.

You can take that £4M for Romeu out, he's just penned a new 3 year contract today.

Blowing our wad on one player who is right wouldnt be an issue, What other players are realistically needed?

I feel like ATM the squad is good enough to compete without any more signings, even with the sale of Mikel and the others. The only place I would like to see a signing is CM, anbut even then I wouldnt just buy anyone, he'd have to be a player who could improve on Ramires, Pobga, Vidal or Khediera seem to be the only players available (or rumoured to be) who I would look twice at. If they dont meet that minimum criteria whats the point? We already have Ramires, Cesc, MVG, Matic, and Mikel who play in the pivot, unless they are a considerable improvement on the rest it would be throwing money away for the sake of it.

I can see an arguement for more a more established defender to come in, even an older head, as we are light at the back. Vermaalen or someone of his profile comes to mind, can play multiple positions at the back and could be relied upon, is seemingly available. Weve signed one Gooner Captain this window, why not make it a McDouble?

BTW, Selling Mikel, Marin, Romeu, Moses would still leave us 10 midfielders, admittedly for 5 spaces and only MvG and Salah are not established stars.

I'm not a mikel fan, but he has been in our squad when we've won literally everything, he has big game experience. He doesn't do a lot on the pitch, but he does exactly what he's there to do. £10 million is a pretty fair price for him

From the stories going around, we are struggling to get 6 million for Mikel. No one really wants him.

One story. On tuttomercatoweb.

We talk every year about selling the likes of Moses, Marin, Romeu, PVA, Bertrand, Mikel, Ba and those sorts of squad players to add to our transfer kitty. We rarely sell many in one summer so it won't happen.

A sensible post when it comes to player sales at last!

All is well saying we can sell Cech, Torres, Ivanovic, Ramires, Mikel and Ba along with the likes of Moses, Marin, PVA and Romeu but in reality it isn't feasible.

For instance the chance of us even being able to sell Torres on a free transfer is minimal. No team in the world would pay him the same wage he's getting here. Could be a similar scenario with the likes of Mikel.

I have liked the look of Romeu in  chelsea shirt before he got his injury and I had high hopes for him. I've listed him as being one of the potential "dead wood" players due to be cleared out, but only because I didnt think mourinho fancied him. Im actually really pleased to hear he has signed another deal and I think he could end up getting quite a few games for us this season.

I thought he looked quality before his injury and I think he'd have been a consistent starter had it not happened. I never classed him as dead wood, just one of those players who isn't quite ready to start at our level on current form, and one we could probably have moved on pretty easily to make some money back.

Likewise, glad he's stayed. Even if it is only cup runs or cover for Matic, he's still only 22 and can learn a lot. Jose's obviously saw something in him so looking forward to seeing how far he can go.

Delighted Romeu is staying personally. Injury ruinedwhat was some great performances from him, although if it wasn't for the injury we may not have got Matic so swings and roundabouts I suppose.

This is what I'd like to see more than Pogba.  We are gonna be relying on Ivanovic, Zouma and Bertrand to cover in case one of our back 4 gets hurt.  That definitely makes me uneasy.

We had Cole, Luiz, Ake and Kalas covering for us last year. You can argue we were lucky in avoiding big injuries to the back four, but It's really not a massive difference in quality from last years squad to this one IMO. Still ended up with the best defence in the league.

One more experienced head wouldn't hurt but I don't think it's a huge issue if we don't get anyone either.

I don't think he's good enough personally but with him signing a new deal I bet that means we aren't in for any other midfielders.
