The John Terry Appreciation Thread

Featured Replies

Jose Mourinho: I thought John Terry was finished... but now I've revived him he should be playing for England

Also a nice tribute from Lampard in there:

On Sunday Frank Lampard paid tribute to the influence of Chelsea skipper John Terry in the club’s success over the past decade and said his respect for him has grown since he moved away from the club.

Terry has signed a one-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge next season after leading Chelsea to the title and Lampard, who was Terry’s vice-captain, said he will be impossible to replace.

‘I have got a huge respect for John,’ said Lampard. ‘Playing next to him, you take for granted how good he is. People were saying his legs had gone but John has defied everything and everyone. Eden Hazard will win all the accolades but John has been absolutely immense.

‘Watching how he defends and the presence he has on the pitch is incredible. I was fortunate to play alongside him for so long. He is a born leader of men. John would have the mobile number of every player in the team, whereas I would have half the team. He was a bang-the-drum captain and we were good foils in that sense.

‘The players who came into Chelsea in the last 10 years have responded to something that John maybe picked up from Dennis Wise in the era before and it is a spirit that stayed right through. Wisey took in players like [Roberto] Di Matteo and [Gianfranco] Zola and kept the spirit and camaraderie alive. John has done the same.

‘I think it’s very important the club try and sign him up for as long as they can. He’s a massive presence. How do you replace a John Terry figure at your club? I don’t think you can.

‘You can go and buy the best centre half in the world but is he going to give you what John gives you?’

‘I saw Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink fly!’ Gianfranco Zola hauls back his head in laughter as he recalls John Terry’s early days training with the Chelsea first team.

‘We were training in a two-versus-two game. It was me and Jimmy Floyd against Terry and another young boy. Jimmy was getting very frustrated because he couldn’t score and he kicked this boy. John didn’t like this.

‘When training continued, Terry switched opponents and went to mark Jimmy Floyd. The first tackle, I’ll never forget it – Jimmy flew through the air! It was an unbelievable tackle, so strong and ruthless.

‘Nothing was said, but the next attack, exactly the same thing happened. I’ve never seen anything fly so high!

‘That summarised Terry’s character. Jimmy was a big man, a senior player. Not any young lad could have done that.’

John Terry - Captain, Leader, Legend on Sky Sports 1 at 1.30pm

A look at the career of Chelsea captain John Terry. A product of the club's academy, the former England captain has won four English Premier League titles with the blues.

I will be watching this

Just saw this while skimming through the BBC live summary of the Sunderland match:

If John Terry completes the 90 minutes - and he's getting close - he will become only the second outfield player to play every minute in a Premier League title-winning season, following Manchester United's Gary Pallister in 1992-93.

Pallister was 27 back then. Terry is 34.

Today I had the pleasure to finally meet Connor Ansell.
Connor is fighting Leukaemia and Chelsea received an email before our trip to Australia asking if the club could do anything to cheer him up as Connor is a big Chelsea fan. We were halfway to him yesterday before training but traffic jams on our way forced us to turn around to make training on time, so after lunch today we made our way back to the hospital to see Connor along with the Premier League Trophy and put a BIG smile on his face.
You are an inspiration my friend and keep fighting.

A few of my mates went down for the Sydney game a day earlier than I did and bumped in to a few players and coaching staff, no surprise that JT was the most willing to wait and pose for pictures and sign autographs for anyone that was asked while a few others including Jose didn't really stick around.

Whoever is complaining about a computer generated personalised picture is a Muppet... Mind you if you were willing to pay ten quid for a bit of old crap like that in the first place you're probably a bit of a mug anyway.

I'm confused about where the "can barely write" bit fits in...  Typically sh*t ending to the article as well.

I think that's a bit harsh. Each to their own, I don't see a problem with someone wanting to have a photo of their hero in their room.
