Didier Drogba Returns!

Didier Drogba backs Arsenal to win Premier League title

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League this season.

Drogba - speaking to promote his autobiography 'Commitment' - feels Manchester City will be strong contenders but has offered his support to Arsene Wenger's side, who have his former Blues team-mate Petr Cech in goal.

"I think Manchester City will be as strong as they have been in the last few years," Drogba told Sky Sports News HQ

"Unfortunately Chelsea are too far [behind in the title race], so I will go for my friend Petr Cech at Arsenal."

When asked if he thinks the Gunners have enough strength in depth to win the league, Drogba simply said: "They have got Petr Cech!"

As for Chelsea's dreadful start to the season, which leaves them 15th in the table having already lost seven matches, Drogba admits Jose Mourinho's side find themselves in an unfamiliar situation.

But despite their current problems, the Ivory Coast international remains confident they can turn their season around, with back-to-back victories over Norwich in the league and Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions Leaguehelping to boost confidence.

"It's a different situation for club, manager and players," added Drogba.

"When you have won the league the season before and you find yourselves in the last three or four teams in the table after four or five games, it is a shock.

"I know the players and the manager have the ability to change this.

"They have won two consecutive games in the last two days, so I think it is kind of a new start."

Drogba scored 164 goals in 282 appearances during his two spells at Stamford Bridge, leaving him well-placed to pass judgement on current Premier League strikers.

England international Jamie Vardy will break Ruud van Nistelrooy's record for scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League matches if he is on target against Manchester United in Saturday Night Football.

Despite that impressive tally, Drogba believes Vardy would need to score consistently for one of the division's bigger names before his qualities can be accurately assessed.

"He is one of the most efficient at the moment. Scoring goals in a team like Leicester is one thing - but you have to go to the next level and score," Drogba said.

"What he is doing right now is fantastic, though."

Love you Didier, but I pray that Arsenal won't win the PL this season.

Imagine the pandemic known as Gooners' selfies all over the internet. The thought of Wenger lifting the PL trophy with his ugly smirk gives me goosebumps too.

Besides, which Chelsea fan'd want to see Cech getting his PL medal in that kit?

Completely agree with his views on us and Vardy by the way.

Didier Drogba backs Arsenal to win Premier League title

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League this season.

"Now they have the best goalkeeper in the league Petr Cech instead of that clown Szczesny I suppose they have a pretty good chance, especially now they don't have to deal with me playing against them any more!"

Drogba added "That said, I do find it funny that the worst-performing Chelsea side in what, 20 years, still managed to wipe the floor with those w**kers."

I hope he's wrong but with City been inconsistent I just don't know. Not sure they will have us to bail them out this time.

We already took three points off Arsenal and completely capitulated to City - what more do they want?

  • 3 weeks later...

If this man comes back in any way, shape, or form I will not be able to contain myself.

Would love him back, maybe he will be back as a way of roman trying to stop the bleeding???

France Football seem to think he is set to become Hiddinks assistant.

I like it.

Really? He's contracted to Monteral who rubbishy the claims. I think we would do well to get some more club legends with big personalities in the back room. Drogba, JT and Lamps all need to with us over the next few years.

From Montreal Impact's official Twitter account (posted about an hour ago):

We are currently in contact with Didier Drogba and Chelsea FC. We are doing everything we can to have him back with the Impact in 2016.

We understand his attachment to his former club and his desire to help them. We are willing to accommodate him.

But our objective is to have him back for another season, as agreed in his contract. This situation is out of our control.

We would like to thank our supporters for their understanding and their patience.

I don't understand why Lampard isn't involved or at least training with us. We need to get him involved otherwise City will. He would be a great role model for the youngsters.

Maybe Supah Frank is on his honeymoon. His Wedding was on Sunday.
