Southampton, Wow, At what stage of the season do we start taking them seriously for the top 4?

Good question. If there is any depth to their squad (i.e. if it can bear an average level of injury-related absence), the answer is now.

Past experience would suggest that a team like Southampton will fall away, performance-wise, but it is in their hands.

Southampton have yet to face the following.

Manchester City (Home)

Arsenal (Away)

Manchester United (Home)

Everton (Home)

Chelsea (Home)

There's a lot of home fixtures there, and some against some top-quality teams. They lost against Liverpool in the first game of the season and to be blunt they haven't really been tested since then. The wheels will come off at some point, if not in this half of the season certainly in the second half when they find themselves on the road to the big-fry. In comparison we've played against everyone except Liverpool and have already gotten our away games at City, Everton, United and (soon) Liverpool out of the way.

They might make top four but who would make way for them? I cannot see both Manchester teams dropping out of the Champion's League, United are more likely to than City but both? Nah, no chance. Arsenal always make top four and consider it a title win, but there could be an upset this year.

1. Chelsea

2. Manchester City

3. Manchester United

4. Southampton

They have all the ingredients required to establish themselves as a top team in league. Top 4 is a big ask but I can see them getting a Europa League spot.

Wonder if Liverpool will reverse roles and park the bus against us next week? But of course the saintly Rodgers would never lower his standards that way, besides it's easy to defend....err...or maybe not

He's got to go for a win.

They're already too far behind and he needs a good performance/result to try and save face.

Their current predicament plays into our hands because we'll probably want to go there and play on the counter.

That said I think the fixture has draw written all over it.

Anyone remember Sunderland Leeds 73? In football all things are possible, so it's best to be ready for all things.

If anyone had any doubts why Moses is playing for Stoke rather than for us...for west hams first goal he played a sloppy pass straight to west ham player to start counter...for the second he just let's downing run into space and leaves him totally unmarked to get a Shot off...Jose will not be impressed with sh*t work like that

btw did anyone else see pardew celebrate the goal in an arrogant, classless fashion? almost as if was designed to wind up brendan...

(Newcastle v L'pool Pre-Match) Let it be known. We will twat these Geordie bar stewards.

That's hilarious. Everytime Liverpool scores a goal Brendan Rodgers celebrates like he masterminded it all.

It's not about how good they are, it's about how sh*te Arsenal and United are this season. They'll gradually fall away from us and City but neither Arsenal or United have shown any consistency yet to demonstrate that they're capable of making up the gap which is already quite large.

I wouldn't bet against Southampton finishing ahead of 1 of the pair and coming 4th.

I'm not sure so, I suppose United and Arsenal might end up in the top 4 but I can't see how Southampton go off the rails unless they get a string of injuries.  They're certainly adding an extra interest this year. Apart from us, City and Southampton everyone seems much of a muchness right now, hard to tell how the season will pan out for a number of clubs.

I'm not sure how much strength in squad depth they have, when injuries and suspensions kick in that will be key.

The mailonline reporting what I was saying yesterday, If Liverpool don't offer Gerrard a new contract he will either go to the MLS or come to us, Apparently Pellegrini is interested in bringing him.

If Gerrard went to City next season it would make you winning the title not as bad as it would have been.

Stevie G lifting the Prem as a City player. Imagine the meltdown

Imagine the Mount Everest-like pile of discarded or burned LFC Gerrard shirts, posters, quilt covers, mugs, etc...

If the season carries on in the current vein I doubt Pelligrini will still be in post by February

Omfg: 'putting six past us would be a crime against football'

Some of these Rawkers are on drugs.

Whenever we've played Huddersfield, I've always been concerned that we'd score too many (check your history books)

Last post for the day lads as I'm on my way to the pub, The worst result for us today is a draw, It does nothing for us, It doesn't stop the rot, It doesn't give us confidence, It doesn't wake us up and give us a kick up the back side, I either want us to win 2/3-0 comfortably with a good, solid performance or I want us to get embarrassed so Pellegrini gets put under severe pressure to change the formation from his archaic 4-4-2 formation and we go on and beat CSKA in the next game and eventually progress through to the knock out stages of the CL.

How I think the game will go? I personally don't see both sides scoring, I think it will be a tight game in which whoever scores first can go on and win the game 2-0, Both teams will come defensively prepared for different reasons, Us because of how bad we have defended the past few games and them because they need to keep it tight just like last week, Funnily enough I'm not nervous for a change, At the end of the game barring a draw there will be positives for us take whether it be positive in the long run if we lose or positives off an important win to keep the pressure on Chelsea.

When we played Preston in the cup a few years ago I was hoping we would lose out of respect to such an incredible historic club....

(Tuesday) Our only hope is for Real (Madrid) to go easy on us in the 2nd half out of respect for the footballing institution this club is.
